- In ancient times, Somali merchants traded spices to the powers of the Mediterranean sea. However, these spices weren’t native to these lands. So... where did they come from?

Well, they have been conquered a few times.
@@anirudh177 never only in 1500
@@kimjongun9517 Lmao, why are you so sensitive about this? Vijayangara conquered Tamil lands, Rashtrakutas defeated the Tamil kings at Takkolam, Gupta defeated Pallavas, Kalabhras also did the same, Delhi sultanate also were able to defeat Pandyas, and Kakatiyas also won a few times against Pandyas.
Ancient Tamils did not keep shaved heads unless they were monks or priests. The nobility and commoners usually kept long hairs.
Correct...
You summed it up pretty well

Forgive my pronunciation xD
I'm glad to read that! Thank you :D

It is not the araiyur... it is uraiyur the medieval capital of chola dynasty
@@RSaravanan17595 uraiyur was the ancient capital of cholas and poompuhar was the ancient port capital of cholas. The Medieval capital of the imperial cholas was Tanjore until Emperor Raja Raja Chola and Gangai konda cholapuram until the collapse of chola empire.
@@playhouse5732
No no... Poompuhar is the old capital of cholas. After a tsunami attack a part of Poompuhar was sank under the ocean... After sank uraiyur (maiden name sevalur) was selected as the new capital.
The name sevalur comes after a story "the cock in the village oppose the king and his elephant". So the king impressed by the act so that the he selected the sevalur as the capital. Later the name changed into uraiyur.
This channel is criminally underrated.
Bro..well done this video will reach millions of views in few months...I will share this to my friends..

Or maybe only 20k in 2 years
As a person of Tamil origin, the pronunciations are good for a Westerner, but not close to a native speaker. Good job though.

Thank you so much for this video. Before the 1st century CE they were probably like merchants but in the medieval time they became the dominant military power in the Indian subcontinent.
My pleasure! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Medieval Tamil Kings will be covered sometime in the future with the grandious Chola Empire stretching all the way to Indonesia!
@@KnowHistory btw aren't Tamils, Malayalis are different ethnicities? And weren't chera dyanasty was Malayalis?
@@Abhishek-sr2pu No first dynasty of Kerala was cheras. Cheras were actually tamil's later on due to the heavy influence of sanskrit a new language was born called as malayalam.
Malayalam is the combination of old tamil and sanskrit language. Malayalam is the only language that preserves old tamil.
@@Abhishek-sr2pu Till 12th century present day kerala people were suppose to speak old tamil language and after 12th century slowly malayalam language was started developing and in the 15th century eluthachan a malayalam poet who contributed for malayalam language and literary works was widely considered to be the father of malayalam language.
@@Abhishek-sr2pu even malayalam language has a influence of Arabic language as the Arab traders visits chera country (present day kerala) for trade purpose.
And this moovendar destroyed the whole Aryan army ( mauryan kingdom)
Is there any specific reason Tamils and southern India has often been independent from Empires in northern India?
It's our tales tell our bravery we had the strongest navy on that time and war elephants and powerful kings who even threatens those war elephants

You must talk about the history of the Kingdom of Pontus, although it lived quite a short life but it was a very interesting dynasty!
This is not Tamilakam this is Tamil Nadu. Nadu means country. It is a place with immense history, oldest literature and deepest civilization in the world. This is the land of the world's oldest kings Cheran, Chola, Pandyan. Thanks for your video. 🎉❤

It's called the history of the entire world I guess , by Bill wurtz
Highly recommended
@@sannidhyabalkote9536 highly not recommended, very stupid video.
This video just has names and maps. It would be sufficient if you add the timeline and more geopolitics with respect to their influence in East and southeast Asia.
It's charting the trade journey of ships, as explored in the previous video about Somalia. There's no need for a timeline or more delving in geopolitics. Scope is important in history videos. There's a limit on what we can put it an keep it convenient to both edit and watch.

Love from odisha Kalinga India/Bharat/hindstan.. please make a video on kalinga
even muventhar has already defeated kalingas ...and write a book as kalingathubharani
My question is, was this place ever conquered at any point in history, or is Bill Wurtz really accurate when he said "nobody conquered the Tamil Kings"?
Mostly, they retained their independece for milenia, iirc the pandyas lasted nearly for 2000 years! but surely, during ancient times, nobody conquered them
@@KnowHistory That's amazing! 😄
nope
I mean it's amazing how they managed to survive for so long, but there were periods and interregnums where the Tamil kingdoms were conquered.
Cholas (300s BCE-1279 CE)
1. Early Cholas - 300s BCE - 300 CE
2. Interregnum - 300s CE - 848 CE (All of the Tamil lands and kingdoms conquered by the Kalabhras, Buddhist warrior tribes)
3. Imperial Cholas - 848 CE - 1070 CE (Cholas at the peak of their power)
4. Later Cholas - 1070 CE - 1279 CE (Defeated by the Pandya Kingdom and territories lost to them, end of the Chola dynasty)
Pandyas ( 500s BCE - 1334 CE)
1. Early Pandyas - 500s BCE - 300s CE
2. Interregnum - 300s BCE - 590 CE (Kalabhras again)
3. Pandya revival - 590 CE - 985 CE
4. Interregnum - 985 CE - 1216 CE (conquered by the Cholas)
5. Second Pandya revival - 1216 CE - 1310 CE
6. Pandyan civil war and collapse - 1310 CE - 1334 CE (Vira Pandya and Sundara Pandya fight a civil war over the throne, this weakens the dynasty and the state begins to fragment, with various vassals and feudatories declaring independence, the final blow is struck by raids and invasions carried out by the Delhi Sultanate, whatever remained of the Pandyas was conquered by the Vijayangara empire.)
The Rashtrakutas, Guptas, Kalabhras and the Vijayangara have defeated the tamils.
The british also defeated them and the vijayanagara empire though they were tamils too

😈💯THE THREE KINGS 🔥🔥
Chera, chola,And Pandiya the Three Kings of Tamil People's ....They Are king of this World .....Theirs Native is Tamilagam (( TamilNadu in South India )) .. The People's called Tamizhan&Tamilan ...And I'm one of them ...😎❤️🔥
Chera , Chozha , Pandyar - three tamil kings...they ruled this world ..
Cheran was from Agni (Fire) clan, Cholan was from Surya ( Sun ) clan, Pandyan was from Chandra ( Moon ) clan... Their ancestors were Sandrors called Nadars... The real royal heirs... These Nadars were very powerful.. but backstabbed By another race... even today this race exists in Tamil Nadu. Former President of India Kamaraja Nadar is one of them. ... Shiv Nadar, the current owner of HCL, belongs to the same royal family as ...
And the Kings proofs are there in inscriptions, their book of copper plate and Sangha literature written by our forefathers which are the books of tamils...
If you hear the biographies of our Tamil kings, even a small child will pick up a sword and fight... Our Tamil Nadu is the birthplace of victory... The reason for the destruction of our kings is because of our traitors. ... Many traitors were created under their rule. Little by little they separated... Even today some people pretend to be Moovenders.
If you start talking about them, you can talk for a lifetime 😎 ❤🔥
I'm from tamil nadu... The territory divisions you show of the three tamil dynasties is not correct especially the territory of Chola dynasty... And also the city names you marked on Chola territory is also wrong...
But good to know people around the world starting to learn about tamil people and culture which is one of the oldest civilization...

Our kingdom was way bigger then any other kingdom from south Asian
Fully wrong
Lot of spelling and pronunciation mistakes better luck next time
Sorry your Majesty I strive to do better.
Spelling mistakes where? The city names were using anglicised or their ancient names found in sources. This happens in history all the time. The names might not be the modern Indian rendition of the same place, that's simply transliteration for you.
"1.49" the harbour is not "koti " it's actual historical name is "korkai" "கொற்கை"...... our land is Tamizhagam not tamilacam.. "தமிழகம்" not தமிலகம் ...listen we have 247 alphabets in our language so u should be very careful while pronouncing it but I appreciate u r interest in making videos on our history but ..our history is our pride we will ask questions if anything goes wrong and suggest to correct it .
@@ChandraSekar-fg5gn Once again, they're anglicised names for an English speaking audience. In English the land is called "Tamilakam" or "Tamilacam". That's how transliteration works. According to sources the region is called "Tamilakam" in Tamil too, so I'm not sure what the issue is there.
As for "Koti" this may be an error. I'll raise it with the scriptwriter. The sources I see state Korkai / Kurkai, there must have been a slip unless some old source refered to it as Koti for some reason. Thanks.
what if I say English as Engliss ... translation won't work in that way man u can't change it . as a lawyer I always love to do arguments 😉 👍
@@ChandraSekar-fg5gn Okay bud. The accepted English name for the region is Tamilakam, nothing more to say. If this video was in Tamil, it'd be different yes. But likewise we wouldn't come on a Tamil language video about Britain and complain how they write and pronounce it "Pirittan" and not "Britain", because... Translation exists! Place names change between languages.
