  • Here is how I fixed the trouble code P1450 on my 2013 Ford Focus. I wanted to post this because some of the videos I found on CZcams made it sound like a nightmare to repair, and it really wasn't. I wanted to show exactly how easy it was for me and hope that it helps someone out there.
It's called a Vapor Canister Purge Solenoid CP805. You can find them for $30 to $40 on ebay and probably Amazon, too. These part numbers are interchangeable: BV6Z-9D289-B, CP805, CP894, CPN1298
I chose ebay after finding they were like $90 at the local auto parts store.

I hope this helps someone who is worried about all the "it's a nightmare" videos on CZcams. This is the easiest repair ever, seriously. It took all of ten minutes to replace, no special tools necessary.

"Topping Off" the fuel on newer model cars can cause the purge valve to malfunction. When refueling your vehicle, the fuel pump handle will click "OFF" to prevent over-fueling. Do not continue to force more fuel into your tank or liquid fuel may get into the purge valve. These valves are designed to remove pressure and fuel vapors only!.

This video is very helpful. I took the hose off and spayed WD-40 in it and tapped the solenoid part with a screw driver handle. This loosened the "stuck open solenoid". If you blow air into the hose the flow should be blocked. Erased the error code.

Have you tried resetting the light with an OBD2 mEter? I'd give that a try. If you don't own one, check your local auto parts store, they usually will clear it for you or loan you the tool to do it yourself. If not, chances are that it will auto clear after about 50 miles or so.

Among another O2 sensor code I’ve had cycle on and off for 5 years owning this vehicle, I have this issue and code as well as rough/high idle. Did you experience any high idling? Mine is barely higher than normal, I’m not letting off the brake and burning out or anything just a little high. When I’m parked sometimes it’s idling low and I had the exact same issue fueling up as you did. Right after we purchased the Focus used with just under 100K miles the fuel tank collapsed and was since replaced and it’s had a recall repair on the fuel purge valve.

@@gilvazquez443 Hate to butt in but YES, this is a dangerous code to have! What happens is when the vapor can not be recycled for fuel, it builds up pressure inside the gas tank (especially when the tanks full) and is like sucking through a straw I a bottle with out taking a breath, it starts to collapse the bottle because all the airs sucked out! What happens is when your on a long trip and it's really sticking is the ECM realizes it and will literally shut the engine down just like that! There is a recall on this for that reason (it's dangerous) and also, you will NOT be able to restart the car as it acts like all voltage is home from the battery and literally nothing works! I know this because it JUST happened to me on the hwy at about 70 mph! I had the code for two weeks, figured it's an easy fix, went fishing out if town 45 min away and almost became fish food lol!! Do t wait, FIX IT because your life is not worth a simple fix like this! Look up the recall on this, it'll explain better but basically it acts like a vacuum sucking air from the gas tank until it just collapses or it trips the ECM. The way I had to restart my car was with a jumper, once started, let it run for 5 mins, shut off then slow charge it. I'm not sure on the "why" it kills the battery part but hey...it's a Ford, it's not suppose to make sense lol. God Bless and thank you O.P. For your vid on this to help others.
