I was in the crowd in Philadelphia, and we watched the Queen performance on the Jumbotrons, and when Freddy started his "crowd control:" routine, we responded. All the way on the other side of the ocean, we were responding, just like the crowd in London.
That is so cool! Freddie was loved by everyone.
They used Freddie's 'call & response' from Queen's 1986 Wembley concerts at the opening of the 2012 Olympics in London. 20 years after his death they still needed Freddie to get the audience involved. Not sure what that says about present day performers....
@@decodolly1535 I've seen that footage... SO COOL!
That's so AWESOME to hear!
I was there as well! What a great concert.
There's a sayin in UK that for 10 minutes Britain was ruled by another Queen 👑 🇬🇧
20 minutes
I was there, two rows back, queued for 3 days, we knew as soon as Freddie came on we were going to witness something special, we did, the greatest live performance, by any band EVER
I was there too. It was exactly what you said. So many great acts played while we all got sunburned but Queen were on a level of their own. Best ever.
@@robinjohnston24 I'm only 26 but my father brought me up on Queen and Iron maiden, I wish I could have seen this live. Thankfully I am going to see Iron maiden in june for their last tour with my father
I stand in awe to you. Sadly I did not see Freddie live and in person but this man was inspiring to me.
Oh my God! I can't even imagine how fantastic that was! I can feel the electricity through the screen. To BE THERE?! That's amazing!
@@robinjohnston24 I was there, a teen and Queen were mesmerising. Freddie was everything I was promised. A memory I hold so close to my heart.
You can understand why us Brits are so proud of Freddie Mercury and Queen being fellow Brits. Queen with Freddie Mercury was England's gift to the world. He and Queen are Legends and are still loved in the UK. 💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️💂♂️🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
in the uk? the world still freaking love them mate!
Dude, what has the UK NOT given in terms of music?? Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Who, Pink Floyd......what in the WORLD is in the water over there??
I love them
Now maybe you can really understand why people who grew up with this are seriously depressed about music today. The musicianship back then is just beyond. (Also… Everyone just enjoying themselves… no worries… just love. Almost rare nowadays.)
Freddie was the best front man ever helps that every single member of the band was a gifted song writer in their own right and in brian mays case extremely anal about getting it right
@@RK-zf1jm I seriously think that Brian May is the smartest man alive. I mean…Rock Star Physicist?!? Groupies, worshipping fans, traveling the world, wealth, meeting & friends with some of the most creative people ever born in his youth & respected scientist & touring musician in old age? In my opinion, smartest man alive.
And everyone looking at the band.... not their phones
Music today is dire,soulless crap.
Thank God i lived the 60's,70's & 80's.

He's the greatest frontman to ever set foot on stage. No one will ever better him & that performance will be remembered as the best ever ❤️
I've never seen anyone put so much of their soul into a performance. He gave everything he had in him. He was a legend.
Is,was, and always will be a legend
So dam, true freddie my God is/was and will be the God music in every sense of the word he is beyond any other ever❤
The guitarist is Brian May... when the band basically stopped regular touring after Freddie's death... he went back to school and got his PhD in Astrophysics... so he really is a rocket scientist... :)
He was actually sick and had a throat infection when he did this concert. He never let anything stop him from performing even at the very end of his life.
And if you listen carefully you can hear it when his voice breaks slightly. He always recovers quickly, but its there.
"A Winter's Tale" the last song he wrote. But not the last He recorded. It could very possibly be the last song he completed recording. He sounds so beautiful and he was deathly ill when he wrote and sang that. I love that song so much.
@@dana_brooke_27 yep me too.. Its all so beautiful like a landscape painting in the sky..🎶🎵🎧🎤
Freddie was THE best frontman of any band ever.
He went through to perform this against his Dr orders due to persistent soar throats. God bless his beautiful soul!!!
I was there in 1985 at the Wembley Live AID Concert and while there were countless acts there that day, hands down, Freddie‘s performance was the best. That day, England was ruled by a new Queen for 20 minutes - RIP Freddie, Feltham‘s favorite son
Cool comment there 😎
The 20min queen ,🤭 so true with due respect 🤫

Wow, that is amazing!!!! I miss Freddie Mercury soooo much. May he RIP. 😢❤❤
you mean Queens performance not freddies
Agreed. I was there too. It wasn't just a concert. It was a phenomenal experience. I've never had anything like it since that day.
I would say the entire United Kingdom if not the World! Sadly my mother missed this performance as she gave Birth too me! I think she still holds a grudge against me!! LOL
You have to realize he was feeding off the energy of the crowd!! He gave to them and they gave to him!! A kind of perfect storm!!
Freddie was the Perfect Storm ✌🏼💥🔥💫✨💫✨💥
Great backing vocals by drummer Roger Taylor which is always overlooked.
Not by me, montreal is a great example why roger is a fooking legend.
@@mr_fox8066 Um I don't know you by name. My comments were mostly to the mind numbed masses. And although Freddy is the main scene stealer in the group. And they'd obviously wouldn't have gotten as far without him. I feel the band is to often over looked as well !
@@chuckvelten5337 this just means we are Queen fans. Hehe
@@chuckvelten5337 absolutely true. If I had a penny for every time a reactor says "he" (meaning Freddie) totally ignoring this a band of four equally mega talented musicians making that fantastic sound. Freddie would have been the first to say that!!

How do you feel about the "bio" movie? His bandmates helped and Mercury seemed pompous and conceited
@@watsenju1103 That is exactly what I thought about the personification of Freddie. Rami Malek acted his socks off, but I just could not believe in his portrayal of Freddie Mercury.
It’s because they have a character to hide behind . It’s always a ruse. Most great actors and other great performers are shy. He was a consummate performer.
At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded by the full horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of many terrible memories I have from 34 years of active service, and over 2 years hospitalisation. But when I remember the smiles on the children's faces, and their laughter at the terrible way we danced always reminds me that humanity will always find it's way through even the worst of times. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears.
My amazing Wife took me to see Queen at Wembley, U.K., in 1986 two weeks after I got back from Ethiopia as a surprise, we also went to the last Queen concert they ever did. I saw Queen live 8 times in all (my wife only 6 ha ha), they were incredible live. And yes, I am an old fart.
Your comment deserves more attention. I am sorry for the trouble you went through but in all that there was happiness. Hope you are ok and doing well thanks for your service.
Reading your comment o got tears in my eyes!!! Music is something u don’t have to speak the same language to feel. It unites people in so many different ways. I’m from across the pond and I thank you sir for your service to your country and others!!!
Was in the DRC during the 80s very hard turn. Still have bad dreams. But your right, people especially kids will always bring me a smile
This is epic. They stole the show. And yes it's considered the best live rock performance in history.
The best performance of anything, anywhere and at any time!
THIS performance is considered one of the all time greatest live performances ever, if not the actual number one.
Yeah 👌
Number one
Definitely
Some of the stage crew that was a Queen fan, blocked a clock in front of band with a cloth. The performance should have been 7-10 minutes. So they just continued - Greatly done - you who did that.
For all the right reasons.... They stole the whole damn show
You need to bear in mind that this was not a Queen audience, there were lots of the world's top artists performing and the crowd was made up from a complete mixture of fans but Queen stole the show and Freddie connected with every single person.
I swear if I have a Flux capcitor this is the one moment I would travel back to, just to witness the legend that is Freddie Mercury.
I was seriously just thinking how I would love to take my kids back to the 80s to see this concert live. #Epic
Total control of the crowd. I think this is considered one of the greatest live performances in music history.
ULTIMATE CROWD CONTROL!!! Nobody commanded the stage like Freddie!! RIP Freddie💜💜💜🎶🎵
Yes
Once quoted “I play the audience darling “ when asked what instrument he played
Michael Jackson also commanded the stage too just like Freddie Mercury
still does today even after 30 years of his death , if you find the fans singing bohemium rhapsody at a green day concert it shows just how much he could control the crowd without him being on stage to do so
The only other person I've ever seen work the crowd nearly as good as Freddie was Dwayne Johnson who, in WWF, could work the shit out of that crowd
Freddie held 75,000 people in his hands as long as he was on stage. They would gladly follow him anywhere. THAT was the power of Freddie Mercury.
The best part of this story is, NO BODY in that crowd bought a ticket to see Queen, Queen did not join the line up until after the event was already sold out they were added last minute...and completely stole the show!!!!...
That's throng has got to be vastly more than 75,000.
@@allanjones1680 the crowd was pretty much dead before he started. that's Freddie's magic.
@@hookstomper7322 This part of Live Aid was at the old Wembley Stadium. The official estimate (based on ticket sales & capacity) was about 72K in attendance. USA part, held simultaneously at JFK stadium in Philadelphia, had about 89,484 attending.

Yet look at this glorious piece of history. So thankful that we can rewatch it….. and remember how incredible he truly was.
It's only 20 minutes, and yet this is still considered one of the 10 greatest concerts of all time.
Not just the one of the 10 greatest concert the BEST EVER live concert of Rock.
@@nancyblumberg4612 The master showman at his zenith 🎉
The greatest singer of all time!!!
The man on the guitar is Dr Brian May, rock star and astrophysicist:). Really - he was studying astrophysics when Queen started & only completed his PhD about 30 years later.
That fleeting moment when Freddie dances across the stage and locks eyes with Brian and smiles. They knew that they crushed it. Best 21 minutes, best performance of ALL time. God only lets us see his grace sporadically. This is one of those times.
I don't think I've ever witnessed anything better than queen at live aid.. Freddie was on fire. ❤️🔥
This is still in my opinion the greatest ever performance 🇬🇧❤
You know what makes me happy to see. When Freddie is freaking KILLING it with radio gaga. All reactions are the same: " do it Freddie, give it to them!"
Years after his death people still cheering him on.
Freddie gave his absolute heart and soul to the audience and gave his all in EVERY life performance. There never was or will be another performer like him. Viva Freddie!
Queen was awesome! The entire band was so strong.
RIP FREDDIE MERCURY 🙏 one of the greatest vocalist and front men of all time.
THE best 😊
2nd song, RADIO GAGA, is where the american female pop singer LADY GAGA , got her stage name from
Radio ga ga was written by drummer Rodger Taylor.
Cool👌👍👍👍
Yet, who cares. She never and will never have the power Freddie exhibited
We’ll react to radio GAGA, thank you so much for watching
@@jasonhanks8258 What is the point of your comment. She is inspired by Freddie and Queen,. Never heard her say she was, never heard anyone compare her career to his. So are you just trolling, or just that shallow?
The crowd of 78,000 people had already witnessed over six hours of music by the worlds best bands before Queen even took the stage. The concert began at midday and Queen took the stage at about 6.40pm. It was one of the most amazing days I have witnessed. This was 25 minutes of a 10 hour concert.
Look at the crowd! LOOK. AT. THE. CROWD!! 100K + Singing along.... Rest In Power Freddie!!
That song when he was playing the guitar Crazy liytle thing called love was dedicated to Elvis after 2 years of his death
Queen n Freddie were the best ! One of a kind !!
I absolutely agree! ❤
Born to do exactly what he did. How many of us can say that? All love for this man and this band. ❤️
He actually had a really SERIOUS throat infection when performing this and doctors advised him against performing as he risked ruining his voice for good. It shows how great he was as a singer to hit EVERY NOTE perfect even with this infliction
Oh yes!!! over 1.5 billion watched this. Whether in person, in the US or via Satellite in 140 nations according to the BBC report. A moment in time. The both of you are magic also and so genuine in your reactions. Kudos

A Bonus for The Pepsi Rep who placed their carons in front of Freddie for over 1.5 Billion people to see....:)
I have the entire concert on several VHS tapes.
I was at the Philly side of Live Aide. Queen honestly saved the day!!
Yes, I was there too. I kept waiting for something to happen this great in OUR show...didn't happen.
@@larrywt656 I was too! There were a lot of great acts but I thought they all sorta of fell short of our expectations.
I was at the Wembley side of Live Aid, Queen re-energised us when we were beginning to flag, we had been in the stadium for about 7 hours by this time. Will never forget that day
Freddie was so awesome! I can't believe that this November will be 30 years he has been gone... ❤
He was like a magnificent stallion, thrusting out his chest, lifting his tail and showing you what he’s made of. Loving every minute of the set and sweeping us along with him ❤
Elton John said backstage "He's stealing the fucking show"!
I can’t believe he was actually very sick 😷 when he did this live aid concert... but he’s strong 💪 & went out their and gave a performance of a lifetime
that's Freddie,on stage he always gave everything.
If you mean with AIDS symptoms, he wasn't.
@@williamjordan5554 This was around the time he started to feel the symptoms of the HIV virus which had been in his body for around 5 years at this time.
After contracting HIV back then it usually lay dormant for around 5 years before the first symptoms started to show - more sore throats, infections, thrush etc, which hit Freddie in the mid 80s.
Then by '87 it had developed into full blown AIDS. So that person is right, although he hadn't been diagnosed yet, he would have at least suspected he could have AIDS, especially as he knew some of his former partners had started getting ill already. And it had been in his system for a few years already by '85. But they're wrong to say he was 'very ill' at this point. He wasn't, he had a sore throat though and was advised not to sing.
Sadly the movie was BS and made it seem like he went on stage that day knowing he was dying 😬
@@williamjordan5554 the had a throat infection
And...was a heavy smoker....could you imagine how much stronger his voice would have been (if there is such a thing) if he didn't smoke? lol

All the guys are outstanding musicians 🎶🎵
Come on, four queens in a deck of cards.
The best live performance of all-time hands down!!
Seriously the GREATEST concert and performance in the HISTORY of music!!!! Now if you haven't seen the movie Bohemian Rhapsody, you just MUST. Rami Malek and the producers of that movie have this clip down to perfection! Even the placement of the soda cans is EXACT!.😳🤯
100 percent x
You are right. Queen's performance at Live Aid is voted MOST ICONIC festiwal moment of all time.
You must keep in mind that this was not a Queen crowd, but still THEY STOLE THE SHOW.
The crowd even didn't know they were coming because Queen were added to the list when all the tickets were sold out. Freddie commanded the crowd at 2 stadiums simultaneously (Wembley and Philadelphia) and had them in the palm of his hand.
Check out Freddie's solo Barcelona - the theme song for the 1992 Summer Olimpic.
Exercises in free love - you'll be shocked when you hear his voice.
No, he didn't command the crowd at 2 stadiums simultaneously, he commanded all of us who saw and heard their performance that day, regardless if you were at the stadiums, or watching it on a TV somewhere. My cousins and I watched it on the TV, and we were as captivated and commanded just as the people there in the stadium that day.
I had the unmitigated pleasure of seeing them live in '80. So very glad I did.
Freddie was the focus always - but what a band they all were together, so much writing and playing talent in one group of four!
Roger Taylor - Drums & Vocals, John Deacon - Bass & Vocals, Brian May - Guitar & Vocals, Freddie Mercury - Vocals, Piano & the Audience (Worldwide)... A blessing to have grown up with through my life since being a kid - so sad that those times are gone x
Top to bottom the greatest band ever in my opinion!! So many of their songs are iconic and lots of people have no idea it’s a Queen song
I remember my brother coming home with a record from a new band called Queen saying you gotta hear this! I can't help but think of the great music he never got to write! Gone but never forgotten !
And that whole crowd was singing it with him...unbelievable performance. Truly, a once-in-a-lifetime talent.
They had 22 minutes to preform on stage. They didn't miss a beat. Went from one song to the next flawlessly.
Thing called love was written as a tribute to Elvis
When this concert happened, Queen wasn’t exactly at their high point ! But they were the best band at this concert ! And they have been respected ever since !
Most of the biggest bands in the world played live aid (except Van Halen, which I've never understood), but Queen blew all of them off the stage. Elton John allegedly came up to Freddie after they came off stage, gave him a big hug, and said "You magnificent f***ers - you've stolen the whole thing. How is anyone supposed to follow that?"
Four acts that could have potentially beat Queen were The Who (very good but under rehearsed), David Bowie (very good but didn't have the audience repot), Led Zeppelin (should have stole the show but poor song choices and being horrifically under rehearsed put pay to that) and Hall & Oats (great opening numbers but then dedicated the rest of their set to essentially being the Temptations and then Mick Jagger's backing band. Also by the time they performed it was around 0430 in Britain and Europe so most viewers in those territories had gone to bed)
@@desperatemohammedantheworl5833 John Bomham having been dead six years beforehand didn't help.
On that note, Queen were one of the few bands that rehearsed properly, in a space of a week. And that helped them fit their greatest hits into 20 minutes! The rest is history.
@@cleverhardy5230 The sad thing with Zep was that in Tony Thompson and Phil Collins they had two of the best possible Bonham replacements.
Properly rehearsed they could have been amazing. Imagine a 20 minute set of Immigrant Song, Kashmir, Trampled Underfoot and Rock 'n' Roll...
Agree re Queen. Queen and Bowie where the tightest and best sounding acts at Wembley and it's no coincidence both were the only acts at that venue to not only properly rehearse and tailor their setlist (a real shame that with one days notice for timing reasons Bowie dropped his closing number, Five Years) but also to take their own sound crews.
Freddie is the bollocks but credit to the rest of the band too !!
I watched all of Live Aid as a kid on MTV. Queen changed the energy that day. They absolutely stole the show.
I'm so happy that Freddie got to see the love we all had for him. Unconditional love.
Such a fantastic performance!
We are the lucky ones that have the privilege of keeping this wonderful talent alive by showing generations to come what a super star Freddie was.
Believe it or not, like his idol Jimi Hendrix, Freddie Mercury was a very shy person. Freddie Mercury was an incredible performer AND person. Elton John was pictured crying at his funeral.
hell a lot of people cried at Freddies funeral they even had to change the key all of his songs at the tribute show with the exception of Elton john and George Micheal who spent days practicing to hit the notes the same as freddie.
Elton and Freddie were close friends
You guys get it and I love it. It's nearly impossible to be as supercool as Freddy Mercury was on that day. Quite possibly the bestest rock and roll performance of all time.
I was at this Live Aid gig at Wembley and it still sends shivers down my spine and a tear in my eye.
Exactly a year later from that day ( all but a day ) I was back at Wembley stadium watching Queen on the Its a Kind Of Magic Tour. The band that supported them that day was the brilliant INXS
I find it hard to believe he had a throat infection & the Dr recommended him to not perform. He’s always so amazing!!
Shows how much a performer he was
HE was suffering from a sore throat the day of the concert, doctor recommended he cancel
Freddie refused. Didn't want to let the ethopian kids or his fans down.

The greatest performer, showman, singer and songwriter to ever have lived
In EVERY concert he performed he blew a kiss to his mother
It still cracks me up how he held his mic bar. I remember when he passed away and we all found out that he had AIDs. He was so talented and an inspiration for so many people (still is). He sang until the end, against doctor's orders. RIP Freddy!

Asked onetime what’s your favorite Instrument to play? Freddie responded “the audience darling” such a legend. Also imo the greatest front man of any band in history.
A microphone in one hand and the crowd in the other ...absolute legend ❤️
An incredible performance by Freddie, but never forget the greatness of the band as a whole, particularly Brian May: his singing guitar playing with that uniquely sweet tone like flowing honey.
For me top to bottom greatest band ever
Not to mention the great songs that Brian wrote like We Will Rock You, Fat Bottomed Girls, and Who Wants to Live Forever.
Freddie, we continue to love your work. You delight and inspire. You may be physically gone, that's all. You continue to entertain. Freddie Mercury forever or for as long as the human race allows our existence. (Editing to say Freddie wrote his 'sound=like Elvis number, i.e., Crazy Little Thing Called Love ... It's his tribute to Elvis, written almost a couple years after Elvis died ... written in 10 min in the bath tub.) And, thanks for the reaction, loved it,
Freddie had 70,000 people in the palm of his hand. He’s unmatched!
Thank you so much for doing this whole QUEEN performance. They put their hearts and soul in this concert. QUEEN stole the show. The most memorable performance of all time even to this day. "QUEEN FOREVER"
Freddie was the quintessential essence of the term “rock star.” His crowd control will never be duplicated. I’ve seen it several times that his guitar playing abilities were very rudimentary and the chords he plays on “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” is pretty much all he knew.
BUT unrivalled on the keys and arrangement and composition.
didn't affect his ability to hold a few hundred thousand people in his grip for hours
