    There's something very "The Sims" about the way your character screams and clutches their head during that Frenzied Flame ending. Like they're very upset that they burnt a grilled cheese sandwich and just throw themselves on the floor in desperation.

    In the Dishonored franchise the good ending is usually the hardest to get.
    But, if you’re already set on a high chaos run, the _worst_ ending requires a little extra leg work.
    And it’s only achievable if playing as Corvo, so if going for it randomly that cuts your odds in half.
    Not only do you have to kill every target, you have to go out of your way in the Dust District to kill both Paulo and Overseer Burns (despite the fact killing one makes you friendly towards the other).
    You need to kill Billie (even though she’s never hostile towards you) and present her corpse to Anton Sokolov.
    You also have to allow Stilton to attend the seance, when it’s much easier to kill him or knock him out.
    And finally, instead of walking 5 steps to revive Emily, instead you walk 10 steps to usurp the throne instead, ruling as a mad tyrant.

    Also the "Star Wars Jedi Academy" - the split off into the bad ending is easy to do - simply kill you know who and you're down the path, but once you've done that, now instead of having to fight through the Sith on Korriban with the Jedi at your side, you have to fight both the Jedi and the Sith. Bc you're so evil, you can't just side with the baddies, you have to be the baddest baddie.

    Tales of Xillia 2 isn’t even the only Tales game to have a much worse ending locked behind extra work and a hard fight.
    At the end of Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a New World, the main character Emil is taken over by the mind of the spirit Ratatoskr and turns on the party. What ensues is a boss fight against previous protagonist Lloyd Irving, and your love interest Marta. Or so it seems; Emil is actually allowing this to happen so that he can be sealed away in order to save the world, without his friends feeling bad about having to do that to him.
    This is, in fact, a fight you’re supposed to lose; Lloyd is extremely strong and Marta supports him with her own magic. When you do lose, Emil is subdued, and you have the *real* final fight, against Ratatoskr inside your own mind.
    But if you WIN the fight, everything goes horribly wrong. Marta is badly hurt, and Emil, thinking he’s gone overboard and *killed* her, goes all Romeo and Juliet, and stabs himself with his own blade before she can wake back up. All that’s left of him is a magic gemstone. So the world is saved, but everyone comes out of the experience traumatized or dead.

      Not just that, but it goes out of its way to make most of the unexperience decidedly un-fun. I haven't touched Elden Ring in a while (got burned out on it), but the lore still hasn't clicked for me and I haven't really gotten attached to any of the characters. Ranni actually annoyed me greatly when she showed up to kick off phase 2 with Rennala. I really didn't appreciate that it was her who crashed the party and brought her mother back. Bosses can bring themselves back all they want for 2nd and 3rd phases (and more), but if there's another NPC (or thing) involved in the process, then it's nice if they stick around to get killed as well. It's less appreciated when they show up, bring the boss back, and then eff off again. I think I'm going for the Age of the Duskborn ending with Fia since it's the closest to the Usurpation of Flame ending in DS3, which is my preferred ending for that game as well.

That said, none of the NPCs in Elden Ring are particularly memorable except for a couple; Patches being one because he's Patches. It was easy to get deep into the lore of the Souls games and Bloodborne, but Elden Ring hasn't clicked for me much at all. 40-something hours into it and I'm pretty burned out and haven't touched it in months.

And THEN you are told that the kingdom of Guardia falls only 5 years after Chrono marries Marle and the Masamune mysteriously disappears. In other words: ALL YOUR HARD WORK IS FOR NAUGHT!! Then you do his loyalty mission in the postgame, choose to save the workers and then leave him to die in the exploding refinery. And there you have it, a living Shepard with a single living companion, ready to completely break ME3's storyline apart.

    I am seriously surprised that Undertale and Deltarune Chapter 2 haven’t made the list. In both Genocide and Snowgrave you are assaulted with both guilt for your actions and tough as nails fights all in an effort to just get you to quit.

      @@bryangibbs7191 sure, they’ve covered Undertale before, but not about bad endings that were more difficult than the good ending. And considering that Undertale, you have to hunt down every monster in every area before progressing in each area, and are met with two tough as nails fights specifically designed to make you quit, and in Snowgrave, not only do you have to kill everyone, you have to find a way to kill everyone because enemies just flee if they are attacked normally, they deserve to be on the list. On top of that, in Snowgrave you have to make a ton of specific choices, go to certain areas, and find required items, select the right dialogue options, and beat another tough as nails boss fight to get the Snowgrave ending. Undertale and Deltarune chapter 2 are the quintessential examples of bad ending that are the most difficult to get.

      It also causes some of the characters to be disappointed in you for taking the easy way out even though the fight you have to beat to unlock this ending is harder than the actual final boss. But the good news is that everybody lives for some reason.

    Disgaea 2's "Worst Ending" takes by far the most effort to achieve, but it's incredibly hilarious and stupid at the same time.
    There's also an alternative, satirical ending in a game called Ar Nosurge that basically dooms your entire colony (or whatever it's supposed to be). It doesn't take any extra effort, though.

    Poor Tali and Garrus.
    By the way, ME's Joker is also Nelson Nash in Batman Beyond (which also has another more memorable if evil Joker). Plus, didn't Oz get sadly friendzoned by sweet yet subtly dangerous Willow Rosenberg on Buffy Season 4 because she had a new love in her life?

    • @boobah5643
      @boobah5643 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Willow didn't get the chance to friendzone him; the werewolf thing (combined with Oz's sense of responsibility) compelled him to go away forever once it was clear he couldn't keep his cool when it came to Willow.
      Mind, the entertainment industry's political climate, even then, meant there was no real chance that Willow would have chosen her ex-boyfriend over her new girlfriend, given the option. Especially since that was the episode that made it clear she _was_ intimate with her witch-friend.

    I recall the ME2 worst ending to not be that hard. It's certainly less work than the good ending. IIRC, you only need to recruit like 6 companions and maybe 2 loyalty missions and it's easy to pick the loyalty missions for people you can kill off by giving them the wrong assignment.

    In “Streets of Rogue” at the end of the game, instead of taking the mayor’s hat to the podium and becoming mayor, you can break down the border wall to throw the hat into the abyss sending the city into chaos! The second bad ending is when you kill everyone before becoming mayor, meaning nobody is left to have a dance party with you.

    the funny part is the 'extra bad' ending of dead space reboot is probly the 'cannon' ending cause remember deadspace 2 starts with you waking up in a mental facility, safe to say you were caught, your mind was fucked with which broke the markers hold on you (mostly) and then...well...shit happens

    • @mistahl5350
      @mistahl5350 Před 7 měsíci +1

      That's not likely to be canon. Especially when you consider the original ending has the 'corpse' of Nicole attack him at the end, and then he's actively haunted by her throughout DS2, it stands to reason that the OG endings are more likely to be canon. Wouldn't make a ton of sense for his vision of Nicole to go from happy lovely gf to 'I'm literally going to kill you' if he got that deep under the Marker's influence.
      I believe it's loosely explained that through the use of certain drugs EarthGov made Isaac build the Marker that he did. I can't remember where it was said or implied, maybe by Strauss?
