    I loved your idea of keeping track of plants using the computer and photos.

    I usually buy a bunch of stuff at once, without any idea where to put it, then I start panic planting when they need to get out of the containers. I end up not knowing what or where anything is.

    Now you are speaking my language. I have drawings. I have maps. I have spreadsheets. I have photos saved in the cloud as well as printed. I save reciepts, plant tags, magazine clippings,etc. I love gardening "on paper" before and after actually planting the plants. I garden in 3 different houses , so I need to stay organized. Don't get me started on how organized I am inside...lol. It's fun for me. As well as being useful.

    Thanks for sharing. Yes computer is key for me. I may have to do that. I appreciate you sharing Google Drive. I will be doing this in my down time when I’m not working with others gardens. Thanks for all the great information.

    I did make a notebook but one thing i always to do is, if there is a plant tag I write on it where I put it ( general area at least). I have a clear plastic page protectors in the back of my notebook that I place these. THen when it is colder weather and I can't garden I write it in the notebook and on the diagrams that I have made. Great video!

      That sounds like a great system. I tend to save up my plant tags too, and enter them into my lists/drawings in batches on rainy days or too hot days, etc. Thanks for sharing!

    Lots of great ideas! Over the years I've planted into what looed like empty spaces only to realize there was a late blooming perennial there. Now I use plant labels in my garden patches. Just check all those indelible pens to make sure they are really waterproof. I just have to remember to have plant labels in my work basket when I head out to the garden.

    Good job.. I myself like surprises in my garden so I don't take any notes. Even when I throw seeds in the soil, I don't mark where I threw them. I think I learned this from David the Good on survival gardening. By the way, returning to your videos will help you remember in the future.

    Love your channel! I'm on Long Island in zone 7! I stay organized by saving all plant tags in an envelope marked with the season and year of planting! It has worked for me for many years!

      That sounds great - I have in the past been too scattered to make that method work, but I'm glad to hear it's possible to succeed with that method! :-)

    Love all your work❣️ I’m a plant and garden journal person too. Like to go back and read what worked and what didn’t, lol And write notes when I pass plants to who. Always keep track of where and when I planted to keep track of divisions. I’m visual so I draw out everything in my sketchbook when I have an idea of what im doing and new designs. I keep photos with info. I keep all tags. When I plant I use rocks to label plants and seal. Rocks look good in garden.

    New landscaping looks great!! I use a spreadsheet and an actual garden layout software...i can add plants or remove them if they die!! I like the spreadsheet or plant software to keep track of details!! Great winter project

      @HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden  Před 2 lety

      What software do you use? I've tried using software in the past, but it slows me down a lot, and many of the plants I wanted to add weren't in the library, so I was frustrated.

      @@HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden I use Garden Planner. It is free and you get what you pay for...but I like having things mapped out. I am 100% sure it is faster to sketch it out than use the tool, but I enjoy playing with it! I did just recently realize that when I moved my data from my old laptop to new, I think I may have lost my plans...:(. Guess what I will be doing this winter! ha!

      Well, for some people, it's fun... or addicting... etc. I tend to get excited about a method then it falls off after the first flush of fun... we'll see how this goes!

    Wow Jenny is gardening a passion or an obsession? You are better organized than some professional landscapers I know - yours is quite impressive : D
    I haven't created a plan or SS from scratch but do know what it's like to buy a home with a plot diagram - *to scale and with a legend* - and it's wonderful!! Thanks for offering even more ideas on how to track one's landscaping (I'm fond of taking photo's then labeling.) Were you an Accountant in a former life or work for the IRS? It takes a special type of person to compile this much detail and not be employment related. I bet your photo albums are a thing of beauty! ; )

      Hahahaha!!!! I do have a bit of an obsessive organizing gene somewhere in my DNA... except, I get all excited about it, then it languishes after a while. :-)

    I think you need a drone to take pics of you gardens and at different seasons instead of drawings. You can then label the plants and log them in your journal . 😊

      @HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden  Před 2 lety +1

      That would be awesome!!!!! Actually, my husband is researching which drone is best and we may end up getting one before too long. :-)

    Omg 😆 As you’re going through all the ways I’m thinking wow I do that. I have almost every way you’ve covered. lol However, I still think to myself did I update when that died or I moved that plant or split it and added more of it to another spot. Surely there is a program out there to record all this for us…. 😩😩
