I was sold on his playmaking from the first game. That isn't something that goes away and a good playmaker can open up a ton of other options on the offensive end.
I also saw him as a super young player with a high ceiling for development. I was shocked to hear some analysts talk like he was an older player who had reached his peak already. I was sitting there like, this guy is within a year of the one-and-done kids, how is he at his peak? Despite winning rookie of the year and most analysts now realizing that luka is really good, he still might be the most underrated player in the NBA. People still dont fully understand that he is one of the top 10 talents of all time entering the NBA, clearly the most talented player that has entered the league since LBJ. This shows if you look at the hype surrounding zion, who is nowhere near as talented as luka and just because he is really athletic gets hyped up, despite showing less impressive stuff against much less skilled competition pre draft than luka.

@Hugh Mungus zion wasnt dominant in college didnt even win the college tournament. He also wasnt even the leader of duke.
Zion as a basketball prospect in 201o is increidble overhyped. Hes shorter than luka, less skilled, and injury prone.
Luka did not get nearly he level of coverage he shouldve. Part of that is that he was in fallas but its mostly that hes international.
Anericans dont respect skilled players they insist players like luka or curry arent that good becaie athletically they arent freaks. Luka is plenty athletic he managed to block lebron and trae young last year as well as cross up many many defenders.

@Hugh Mungus 2 injuries. Got injured in summer league in under 9 minutes. And i dont care about college stats when they relied on him being bigger than most of his competition. His game doesnt translate. He is 6'6 with no jumper and medicore handles he is in the wrong era. He will get destroyed without major improvement.
Luka competition in thr highest level of euroleague is leaps and bounds better than ncaa college basketball. Zion in summer league got his shot blocked 4 times and didnt score unless he was wide open. Noy yo mention he has no go to move like luka does.

I love how people talked so much about his athleticism, and brought up guys like Bird, Dirk and Nash. Who were crafty white guys that were never the most athletic guys in the NBA, yet were MVP’s and are now HOF’ers. Luka reads defences better than almost any PG in the league today, he knows how to create shots for himself, his shooting is getting better and better, they’re putting pieces around him that will help his defensive lapses. He’s 6’7 playing the point which automatically gives him an advantage over smaller defenders. If they can find a true Center to help them grab boards like Chandler did for the Mavs and a wing Defender along the lines of Marion. Then this team will be a title contender NO DOUBT

A wise man once said, "A great athlete will give the crowd oohs and ahhs, but a great basketball player will win you games." That's who Luka Doncic is, a great basketball player. Just how great he becomes will be a factor of time played, injuries sustained and their effects on his overall play, and his work ethic and desire to develop, and his team and individual results.
He's easily the most accomplished European player to enter the league, especially at his age. People queried Larry Bird's athletic ability before he came into the league, and he showed that a slow white guy who could hardly get off the hardwood could still impact the game in a multitude of ways, based off his intelligence, and skill set. I'm not saying that Doncic is the next coming of Larry Bird, at least not until he starts winning championships.
I do think that with Kristaps Porzingis (assuming that KP is healthy) are going to be a great duo for the Mavs, and with the right pieces around them, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the West for the next decade if they stay together.

The nba where you described the euroleague usually starts in March and ends through the playoffs. The beginning of the regular seasons are about setting and a tone and then coasting but never go all out. That is reserved until later in the season.
But you used fiba this year as an example is laughable. It’s already known the Us didn’t send their best players. Why didn’t you use fiba of 2010 and 2014? Why didn’t you use the Olympics of 2012 and 2016?
