just finished the book. The last few lines gave me goosebumps
Cool 😎
Great stuff as always, David!! In & Of Itself was one of the greatest things I've ever seen- will have to check out this book for sure🙌
Hope you enjoy it!
The cover showcases the infinite mirror tunnel paradox!
A nice little change to see a magicians lifestyle in a book!Lovely!Nice review!Cheers.
Indeed!
Excellent, excellent excellent review, David! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
I was really curious as what you where going to say for the negative, but I can only agree. (Although you could argue that it's always good when something leaves you with you wanting more).
My only negative point in the book is that my copy had a misprinted hardcover, totally off with the embossing. So it's a bit less pretty on the shelve.
In & of itself (the movie) and this book are both so good and both something special. Can only recommend it to everyone! Only wish In & of itself was available on Disney Star in Europe.
maybe that makes it a LIMTED EDITION !!!
@@magicorthodoxy I like the way you think 😆
Loved this book! So good!
:)
This was a great book. Ended up getting it and reading it all after this review. Superb book and a great companion to the Hulu Special.
Totally agree!
Awesome review!
Glad you enjoyed it
The book asks you to believe that a competent sleight-of-hand would willingly walk into a Hold’m game as a dealer... while knowing NOTHING about the game. A high stakes game. To cheat.
Do you buy this story?
Of course, it comes from a book whose title announces ambiguity. Amoralman... It celebrates it. Revels in it. It is a bit of a Rorsach inkblot in that one will read in it what one is inclined to see.
In Amoralman, you will find references to the François Rechenback F for Fake movie with Orson Welles. I do not believe that it is accidental: it’s a “tell” that Mr DelGaudio took some liberties with reality in writing this tome.
Read carefully and you’ll recognize entire segments “borrowed” from classical magic lore. The Vernon/Diaconis-like trek, the use of Al Baker’s like “don’t run if nobody’s chasing you”, the chronicle of the Kaps/Beatles debacle; the refusal to expose - “I wasn’t keen on selling secrets to tourists. Or anyone for that matter”, and yet lenghty teachings on peeks, coolers, false deals... essentially an infomercial for Steve Forte tapes... the use of coattails in dove magic...
All that exposure in a book for the public dovetails nicely with F for Fake and the telling of Elmyr De Hoy and Clifford Irving’s tales therein. Early on, Wells essentially declares that you will have to decide what’s real and what isn’t in his documentary.
Amoralman does extend a similar invitation.
My impression is that Amoralman pretty much takes the same tack as F for Fake.
Let’s just say that the book is a fun read, and leave it at that.
GREAT COMMENT
Michel is hinting that the basic story in AMORALMAN didn't happen. He's wrong. It did and some of the details are incredibly accurate. Others were changed for dramatic efficiency.
I'm the first. Yeahhhhh. Love ur review. Can't wait to see the deck review. Love your Intros. My lovely day starts and ends with "Hey everybody. Welcome back to magicorthodoxy. I'm name is David."
Yay! Thank you!

There's a book called "Absolute Magic" b6 Darren Brown which contains no tricks but a great book. Please make a video on that book.
that's my favorite magic book
A book... say no more. I'll take it.
HA HA
What a great book that I read. High Art, yes.
:D
Nice to get some fiction suggestions for magic!
It's not fiction. This is Derek's real life story
@@magicorthodoxy then maybe I should call it an autobiographical fiction.
@@westonding8953 why is it fiction
@@magicorthodoxy I thought fiction was defined as having a storyline or plot. (Like a narrative.) It’s not necessarily fantasy, could be a true story, but written in narrative form. I could be wrong though.
@@westonding8953 fiction means fake, false, made up, not true
I thought the show was a *HUGE* let down, so although I love books, I'm not going to bother with this one.
oh wow .... not enough magic?
@@magicorthodoxy From all the rave reviews I'd been hearing, I was expecting something quite fantastic rather than the dragged out self-indulgence I got. Fortunately, there was some good magic and a couple of entertaining bits squeezed in (almost by accident), I still wouldn't recommend it to anybody. I'm talking about the film, not the show here, but after watching the film I've got zero interest in seeing the show.
