    Given that both share the same platform Yamaha should do an MT07 SP with the upside-down forks and the better brake master cylinder of the R7. I bet a lot of naked bike fans would be willing to pay the premium for a better suspension on the MT07.

      @@kevinlugonzbi6005 No I think he's right from a marketing perspective. They left the perfect hole in the pricing model for it to be just as you said, Mt-07 SP $500-700 more than base. Still $500-700 cheaper than the R7 and like $900-1100 cheaper than an R9. (If my math is ok) Could be very smart of them to do. MT-07 without the weak link of that soft fork might sell great. People that dgaf about suspension will still buy the base model of course.

  • @timsmotorcyclediary
    @timsmotorcyclediary Před 3 lety +7

    I'm disappointed Yamaha chose to make the R7's ride similar to the old R6 or current R1. They easily could have kept the R7 comfortable like the MT-07. Middleweight sport bikes in the 1990's were comfortable bikes to ride even on long distances (e.g. Honda CBR600 F3 and Yamaha FZR600). They were also much heavier as well. I suppose Yamaha had to keep the R7 from taking sales away from the MT-07. If I was offered a high-performance and comfortable R7, I'd skip the MT-07 and spend the extra money.

    I strongly strongly strongly disagree about sport bikes in general being bad for your back. I had a major back surgery a little over a decade ago, and frequently have low back pain. The muck more upright position of a naked/standard, and the relaxed position of a cruiser is *much* worse for my back. Being leaned over takes all of the stress off the muscles in my lumbar region, and completely eliminates back pain. Sure, on some days it then hurts to stand *up*, but it doesn't hurt to ride. OTOH, a sport bike does make my knees feel sore after 2-3 hours.

    OC. Can't pick between the two easily, but I think I'd fancy the MT07 more for comfort. I would imagine we'll see front end swaps from R7 onto the 07 one of these days to come.

    Quite cool to see how functionally similar the R7 is from a twins cup FZ07.

    OC: Hard pick tbh, i live for the casual but hooligan style and feel of the MT 07, but the R7 looks nicer and you can go to the track with it, so ultimately i'd choose the MT over the R, but the R is always there as a backup 😂

      Get some seat time before you think about your second or third bike. Once you've gotten enough ride time there are going to be changes to the bikes by then.

    I have a T700 with over 40000 km, absolutely love everything about it, recognising that nothing is perfect and everything can be improved . I can vouch for that engine in all realistic situations I am satisfied with a standard trail bike that will do about 200 and if I did not have 1 km of sand to get home I would consider owning all 3 of course I would like a hot rod but with the Michelin anakee wild tires on it I can still crank it over pretty well in the corners .I would really love 2 crank that R 7 over in my favourite corners but I am 58 so I guess I can be satisfied with what I have and there is a lot more traffic and police now than in the 1980s anyway ride safe nice to chat see you later

    New OC, I would have to pick the MT07. givin my current riding demands. short but harsh commute, a race track is 6+hours in any direction. buy a bike you can enjoy right away and then think about an upgrade or build the bike to suit your needs. I bought the 2006 FZ6 in 06 and started stripping it after seeing the euro spec fazer600

    They fixed almost every complaint about the FZ/MT07 but put the fixes in the R7. On top of that Yamaha is charging a $1300 premium for basically a MT07 done right because it has an R in its name. So in short he is saying the R7 is what the "next gen" MT07 should have been other than the fairings, rider triangle and the $1300 price jump. Way to look out for your core customer base. Thanks Yamaha.

    OC: I like both bikes, but I’d go with the R7 because of the body work, slipper clutch, and improved braking. If the MT-07 had those, minus the fairings of course, then I’d pick the MT-07 for its upright seating position.
