Hey 👋 Beth! While I was involved with PACE24, my wife met you there somewhere, and as soon as I turned on CZcams and Charlie for a squeegee lesson, the wife called out “Hey, that’s Beth from Lancaster!” So, you made a big impression. I’ve watched the whole episode here, and enjoyed hearing your story- I experimented with a squeegee at PACE24 and surprisingly it went well. I also use water mixable oils, so this was a great interview all around!! Thank you both!🎨❤️🎉

So sorry to have missed this live...wanted to ask some 'techie' questions...like have you noticed that you can't leave the paint out on the palette the way you can leave regular ols-the WMO's seem to dry up and become sticky very quickly when left out overnight. yes?? Also..do you both keep using water as a solvent all throughout painting or only at the beginning? etc. Love both of your works!

In my experience, the WMO's set up about 10% quicker than conventional oils, but that's all. I use water as a medium from the start until partway through, then switch to water & oil; then all oil.

Great episode Charlie! Love both your styles. Just curious when you guys paint very thinly with the WM oils, do you only use water to get the water color style washes or do you use the WM thinner from Cobra? Thanks so much!

Can't speak for Beth, but yeah; pretty much. I don't use any mediums until partway through the painting process. Again, I would advise this ONLY if you are working on a rigid substrate (panel, or fabric mounted on panel). Were I working on a stretched canvas of any size, I would advise using the "thinners" that are available.

I use water to start as my medium, but also use Cobra mediums added to the water depending on where I am in the painting process. Agree with Charlie about substrate, we both tend to work on rigid panels

Also..why don't either of you use the silicone sculpting tools in addition to the squeegees?

Speaking only for me; they just are too fiddly. I think both Beth and I have ended up gravitating to just using two sizes of squeegee - also, the edge of the (rubber) blades of those shapers aren't nearly as sharp as a squeegee blade, so the removal mark is less controllable.

@@CharlieHunterArt yes I use just the Ettore squeegees in different sizes
