I hope everyone honestly appreciates the overall talent it takes to perform all the various types of equipment repair on display on this channel. There are many who turn wrenches but not many who will tackle even some of this, much less all of it. Hats off to ya Warren, hope 2024 is a great one for you.

You sure do get some of the worst jobs, when I started in the heavy construction machinery repairs ,I remember the smell of that stinking crap in belly pans, and we always had skin off our hands which turned bad,the bugs were rife in there.Keep giving us that good content ,I love it,takes me back 50 years.

I just love Warren he is old school and speaks his mind and is a patriot. Oh and buy the way he is a great mechanic and a very hard worker that battles the elements and the confined spaces and hot oil. A diying breed. That’s coming from a recent retired operator and half assed mechanic they will miss him when he gone!

One of the old crusty mechanics I worked with in mountain man timber and mining country used to enjoy arc welding like it was some treat or something. He always welded on bar stock grousers on the tracks vs. replacing the pads. He'd take any arc welding job over anything else that came up. He would spend weeks just straight arc welding without even lifting a wrench if he could. That was my "day job". At night I worked at a machine shop that rebuilt and even made hydraulic cylinders from raw materials. Crazy bunch of characters there. Operating big lathes with a dial caliper in one hand and a beer in the other. Those guys had a "unique" way of getting the rods out of the cylinders, using compressed air to launch the rod out into the woods behind the shop like a missile. Their way left a huge mess to clean up off the floor, walls , ceiling, etc. I used that method once. Then I made a hydraulic hand pump out of scrap steel, hose, and fittings to push the rod out a little less violently, and caught the oil in 5 gallon buckets instead of spraying it at 150 psi all over the back half of the shop. Saved time looking in the bushes at night to retrieve the rod and piston, too. Later, I worked at a Cat dealership with another old salty character that welded on pieces of steel onto the gland nuts to beat on them with a 4 lbs hammer instead of using a spanner. After tightening the nuts the same way, he'd just cut the hammer pieces off with a torch, grind them, and spray on some rattle can paint. I always thought he was probably burning the new seals some with the torch, but he wouldn't listen to me.

Warren, on bigger heavier cylinder work, as a really small guy, I put the barrel vertical with a couple mag levels or my eyeball if I feel good. Then rod and let the weight help it in to the gland nut.
Done a lot both ways but if you have a frame when I was at the shop vertical was always my goto way.
Like we all say though, which ever works best for who is doing the job is the best way. I just liked the fine tune of my winch and the weight pushes it in…

You always crack me up Warren, because if the guy had watched the whole video and paid attention, you clearly said you didn't want to take the whole thing out of there, and showed us there was no way to get the gland nut off, because you sure aren't loosening that by hand. Sometimes getting that damn thing loose can be pretty rough, especially with an old machine. I personally like the long video's, because you are kind enough to show us a lot of stuff other people just ffwd through with no explanation or close up video. I have learned a lot, even though I've worked on all different kinds of equipment in my nearly 53 year's of living, there is always something new to learn, and it can be from someone younger or older. I think most of us appreciate what you share, but there's always gonna be a few knuckle heads out there to type up a dumbass comment. Happy new year, hope you have a good year in 2024. As you say Warren, "no excuse for no work"
If looking for work is not meeting your expectations, try lowering your expectations.

Same on my backhoe with the cylinders filling up with water. I was thinking the sunlight rottted the seals and the rain did the rest. Everything was pitted bigtime inside. Doesn't mattter we roll with it. You should have taken that gland nut off in the machine... Kidding, kidding, I watched the whole vid bud. I'm happy for you the bottom pins came out...
