    Hey viewers sorry for the late upload today we had a CZcams glitch but it's worth the wait! There is a lot happening in this video. During the job we can't spend too much time explaining every step, so just drop any questions you've got in the comments. How much does it cost? A new rod is about $6800 and we do the repair for less than a quarter of that 😎👍 And next time I will get it in one take for sure! 😂

    So how do you prevent a bow occurring in that shaft when you're doing a heavy, mid-point weld like that ? I'd think you'd end up with deflection at some point during the welding process.

    Hi, I'm very happy to see and monitor your good activities on CZcams. I both learn and enjoy. Because I am an electrical engineer, I think the main triangle of the main motor's star timer lathe is a bit high and the second multiplication of the motor is done with a long delay. And this can be harmful. Thank you for all your activities, keep up the good work I look forward to seeing more videos from you

    Back when I was laying a lot of bead, we'd peen the hell out of new weld, or use needle guns to take the stress out of the weld while it was still hot. I'm guessing induction hardened 4140 might be a bit less prone to stress deflection, but there must be some issue with displacement sometimes.

    • @CuttingEdgeEngineering
      @CuttingEdgeEngineering  Před 3 lety +5

      Hey mate yeah on larger dia rods when heat is sucked out quicker we do use the needle scaler to avoid stress fractures. This sort of job it's not necessary

    Really liked this video, I do some part time machining (amateur but I have a arrow vmc and a sodick wire amongst other "home" shop kit) and was looking for a competent rework to show someone who'd been told it wasn't possible, and watched it to the end. Great that you added the bloopers, and you showed the ones where you dropped the insert screw in the swarf and had to hunt it out, the sliding hook of the tape fell off the end of the shaft a few times checking the length etc. Because I've done both those so many bloody times too. Keep up the good work!
