I am a lease operator with Prime as well and I’m in the same boat as you were and the reason they keep bringing in more students I’ll talk on it. Thinking a tax cut to stay open as a training school so if they stop hiring and training students, they lose their tax cut as lease operators. We also have the highest truck payment to pay in the whole industry, big or small company. Prime has the worst lease contract of anyone our cost is around $1500 a week most other companies, including only around 800 should tell you all you need to know.

As truckers, our mental health is challenged enough. Last thing we need is someone watching our every move. The trucks are our homes and once we are done for the day we NEED privacy. I will get a camera in my truck when our dispatchers and office staff put cameras in their homes so the drivers can watch them like they want to watch us.

@@keithh8149 Are you a truck driver? Prime plans to use bunk sensors as well in case you didn't know. They are testing them currently. However, I've worked monitoring camera systems for trucks before. They are always recording and they have mics. Even when you're stopped, which is how one time we saw a guy have a heart attack in his BUNK. Lastly, the cameras are so sensitive they spend more time dismissing alerts being sent to them with something as simple as looking out your window. If an event happens, it records it up to 10 to 20 minutes BEFORE the actual event took place. Which is another reason it's always recording. You can hear convos and down to you passing gas. There is no privacy. And anyone who actually lives on the road would not be okay with constantly being monitored.

Yes. Every PRIME building has audio and video surveillance. If you were ever in the guard shacks, or security room, you would have seen this. I was with the company for a lot of years. I've been out since Fall of 2021. I miss it. I can intelligently see the advantages of being under the microscope. It isn't about intrusion. It's all about safety and well-being.

When I was falling asleep at the wheel, I could have used that surveillance in my dispute with pushy night dispatch. If my co-driver was raging at me while I was driving, I could have used that surveillance. If I was having a neurological episode that I wasn't aware of while I was driving, surveillance would have helped me. I don't care about your privacy insecurities. If PRIME would have taken me back after I finally got over my lengthy post covid health issues, I would be happy to go back. As it is right now, no company will hire me. I haven't had a job for nearly 3 years. Life is miserable here, living with the troll who used to be my co-driver, but I can't legally get rid of him. I admit that I'm a disgusting, filthy hoarder, and I do pick my nose, but my integrity is much purer than my ego. While I would be on the clock, I'm perfectly fine with being watched by a camera. On a side note, for my safety, I have covert surveillance equipment in my own home, to capture proof of 28 years of hideous abuse that the outside world doesn't believe that I experience. Sometimes stuff happens that is so traumatic that the mind completely blocks the memory retention from. Seeing and hearing the videos shocked me, because I absolutely didn't know what happened until someone told me. Driving a truck is a valuable and dangerous job. You're vulnerable to some high dollar abuse. Surveillance is protection. Because God sometimes doesn't intervene on your behalf when there are very dangerous people after what you have. I imagine that you must think that I'm a rambling nut case, but you'd be the same if you saw the Hell that I've been living.

I did my year at prime and was gone the first good opportunity that came up, couldn’t have made a better decision every aspect of the new company I work for is better BY FAR!! Prime has cultish tactics it uses to retain drivers and it rides the line of ethics. The bottom line with the camera debacle is that Mega carriers will always have a certain percentage of drivers that prevent their CSA score from being ideal, Dennis Davis believes these cameras will improve drivers habits what he hasn’t calculated in to this factor is that Prime will lose a significant number of good drivers and will be replacing them with drivers with no experience so they may get the score up in one area but it will drop in another Steve Fields knew this… and was smart enough to know that a few bad apples will always be at prime, but punishing good drivers will drive the score even lower. Here’s my prediction. This time next years Dennis Davis will be gone fired or demoted (and he should be, he loves drivers but speaks down to them like they are beneath him) and primes CSA scores will have dropped in bigger ways then they are now, rob Lowe will sell or bring the company public either way prime is done at least from what it once was

The Freight is down, I agree with that statement. I ran into another Prime Driver named Jr that's also leaving the Company and is going back to his home in Central America.
Prime just doesn't have it to keep drivers there and keep running in those rented trucks that you all are driving. I'm a Driver/Recover Operator over here at FreightStar Expedited out of Chicago. I make ok money but not the money that I could be making if the Freight Rates had risen and the Fuel had Straightened out things might be better but right now, It's just not there for us.

It’s all about the Revenue if it’s not there why stay.
You’re chasing for a carrot you’re never going to catch.
As for the forward facing camera they do shut off when the tractor is shut off.
They have told us as drivers “ you can place a hat over the camera while you’re on your 10 hour break or anytime you’re not driving.”
I say this for all who read this post.
My carrier has the word “HUNT” in their name.
They don’t “micro manage” drivers off the camera, it’s for insurance purposes.
Follow the rules and don’t create distractions while driving, wear your seat belt, obey posted speed limits in construction zones.
The camera works both ways it also records your defensive driving to avoid collisions.
My manager called me for a conference and showed the event that was sent on how a “ Prime Truck” changed lanes to the left without any indication which I used my brakes to slow down to avoid the collision on the interstate.
I was passing by the trailer when the driver started the lane change.
2 way cameras are here to stay.
Prepare to change your driving skills to protect yourself and others.

It’s not worth hauling general freight right now. “General freight” being the key here. It’s too easy to climb in a truck and pull a box. It’s what everyone did during Covid and we’re dealing with the consequences of that now. But, specialized areas like chemical hauling and just tanker work in general has gone unaffected for the most part. I wouldn’t be an owner op and pull boxes right now, that’s for sure.

I know that Prime itself is still making money. And I overheard someone at prime talking about a major Reno at Springfield that will take over 2 years! And I was thinking, where is all the money coming from? Because the drivers aren’t making any!! Smh

@LonghaulGypsy oh yeah, all the renovation, new shop. Also look at success leasing inventory, there's a truck they are gonna charge for extras on the truck.......those extras were already paid for by the driver who ordered it that way, Prime double dippin. Prime ain't what it was 4 years ago when I started with them. I'll be starting at another company next month

As we age, it is important to maintain lean muscle...there are a lot of YT channels for folks our age using calisthenics/body weight excercises to get stronger in a healthy sense. They are having some drivers deadhead hundreds of miles more often. Like 400-650 dh.
    Sometimes back to back.
    With rpm 1.40-1.70.
Normally these are the drivers that decline loads or have service failures and accidents.
But since March it’s been he🏒🏒 for drivers.
It seems to be getting a little better. But that can be attributed to the loads of people quitting at this moment. Which means this is only temporary relief.
You are doing the right thing by leaving. Prime is clearly in survival mode and downsizing. But doesn’t what to fire. It could be to avoid news coverage. Also, maybe they don’t want company drivers to receive unemployment.

As a lease is, there wouldn’t be unemployment benefits. And in the recent months I personally have had to deadhead 1000+ miles several times. Just not worth it for me. And I have much better opportunities for myself. Best wishes to you!! Thank you for your comment!!

@@RoadrunnerG I have my own inboard/outboard facing camera that I don’t have to worry about having to rely on a company to provide that footage if some unscrupulous cop decides to claim he/she saw me talking on my phone while driving. There are several companies that drivers have said they refuse to share that video with you even if it helps you to get out of a ticket, they only use it to for their benefit. So no, “their” camera does nothing for me and is NOT welcome in my truck.

My lease runs out in October i just came over here in march with high hopes and its been good so far. Glad i opted for a short term end of lease but inhad considered buying a truck afterwards. Been driving 17 years and i had paid a truck off before. Then they announce their camera stuff and im like..absolutely not!...already put in an application elsewhere. Going to try my hand at drive away because i had done truck recoveries before for various companies and its really a no hassle hustle. Quick turn around on trucks. Im going to miss Jakes massages at Springfield 😆 i do love all the driver ammenities but im not giving up my freedom and privacy. A blurred out naked butt is still a naked butt....youre blurring a cam into my "bedroom"....no thank you. And even if prime doesnt check those cameras...you have hackers. I get that they need to cater to their insurance company...thats their master...not mine. I wish them all the best but the industry is really taking a dive from what its been. Im not going down with it. In the face of memorial day..of all the soldiers that have died for our freedom im going to keep my freedom as long as possible
