No Narcissistic Supply? Self-supply or Forced Supply

- How does the narcissist cope when he can no longer obtain supply because all his sources have dried up or because he is unable to establish a new PNS owing to external circumstances or to internal constraints (he is covert)?
The narcissist then resorts to self-delusion. Unable to completely ignore contrarian opinion and data - he transmutes them. Unable to face the dismal failure that he is, the narcissist partially withdraws from reality. To soothe and salve the pain of disillusionment, he administers to his aching soul a mixture of lies, distortions, half-truths and outlandish interpretations of events around him. These solutions can be classified thus:

I was with a narcissistic man long enough to see all of this. The strangest thing to me. I truly loved him. I saw the paranoia and pains and fears. Absolutely can not be with him.

Great video, thank you. The person in my personal experience has now been diagnosed as grandiose delusional schizophrenic. When I found out about narcissism and disassociation and read about DID, I was able to see 5/6 different ‘versions’ of him, and it was like one of them just ‘wasn’t there’, he would leave the job on and take the kettle off and go out. I do still feel for him, but so thankful that I found out about it all so early on in our sons life and escaped. Praise God I saved my son from it 🙏🏼

You know this is absolutely mind bending yet strangely enough makes perfect sense to me and I cannot determine if I am psychotic enough to understand this or if Mr. Vaknin is just staggeringly brilliant

Planning out loud about once a month how he is going to commit suicide. Then after we listen to his excuses which include blaming us for not needing him, the plan goes away for a month.
In the childrens book Wind in the Willows...is Toad of Toad Hall a grandiose narssicist? Who later when very depressed "flat toad" is a collapsed narssicist then again becomes grandiose?

I know you mainly refer to DSM-V in your videos, but I wonder if you have heard that in the upcoming ICD-11 (used in Europe) they plan on eliminating separate diagnoses for personality disorders? There will be just one diagnosis of personality disorder. The clinician will be able to add a 'prominent personality trait' specifier, e.g. detachment, dissociality, anankastia, etc.

Oh my god. My narcissist is isolated. In the past three years hes been diagnosed beyond his npd as schizotypal, paranoid and antisocial. He believes he is here to fight for the world and is god like. He believes he is the smartest man around. He thinks his entire family is conspiring against him and believes his phone is hacked and that Trump is president still and he is here to go to war. He burned down the garage at his mother's house out of spite. He is unemployed, on drugs, and isolated. And everything you say is true. I'm in no contact with him. Radio silence. He was furiously angry with me and accused me of out of this world things. And now nothing. He doesn't speak to anyone. After his arson incident, I question if I am safe? At this point he seems so indifferent I hope he lacks energy or care for retaliation.
