Only OG players know how horrible riding Ikran was in 2009. Playing Frontiers, it's so much easier to control.
Sorry, but I loved it in 2009.
Well honestly it wasn't that bad only problem for me was that I couldn't use it anytime I wanted and most likely it was useful in Inknimaya part. Frontiers has better Ikran functions + you can use it anytime and even custom it and use weapons from it so this makes it a lot more useful (dearhorse is same as at 2009 and Frontiers cannot custom or have one of your own only find it in wild)
Of course it was great in 2009... because it was 14 years ago and everyone was probably still a child. We enjoy things very differently at that age 😂

It was a pain to master but once you did it was actually kinda fun. I spent hours just messing with the flight mechanics and I’d gotten so attuned to them that I literally landed half on top Beyda’amo, because it was quicker than walking all the way to him, because the ikran fits through the entrance way of his place. Or that small stone bridge you walk over at the bottom of the Tipani home near the water fall, right in front of where you spawn in the village. You actually fit under there with the ikran. Or the cave right below where Beyda’amo is, you can fly in there and out there in one swoop.
That first ikran ride with the bombastic music in the new game was a magical experience
It really was! First time I got legit chills from a game in a looong time.
I don't care what people say about the new game, taming your ikran was beautiful. It actually felt like a right of passage. And man, it really scratches that itch to fly around freely as this dragonesque creature/rider.
IT DOES! the new game is so much fun imo, and the world is so picturesque, I find myself staring at the views every 10m

I do have some fond memories for the 2009 game. Used to play both RDA and Na'vi path multiple times, but I have to admit, the armor and weapons you got as RDA soldier was a little more epic.

That trip up to your ikran was really something. the music hits so well during scenes like that.
I had chills the entire way on the path, and when I got to fly, I was grinning like a child !

It was bad but I don't remember it being half as bad as it looks in this video. Has been forever since I played the 2009 game though so maybe I just need to go get a refresher lol
@@blakenelson8202the actual controls used were simple. What was bad was the ikran response: slow turn + needing big space for going different directions

I remember playing the 2009 avatar as a kid and i STILL thought the riding mechanics were frustrating in that game. I always remembered it being alot more fun than it actually was, maybe because im nostalgic about it.
However... I cant deny it; frontiers is definitely better when it comes to flying.

The ikran is supposed to try and kill you. The new one didn't capture the intensity of that introduction
Well the old one didn't either, in fact I'd say it did less, more dramatic sure but that's just because of the music, the "try and kill you" scene in frontiers was when your character was in the hollow vines, in the old one your character literally just fell off the cliff and it caught him, bro wasn't tested whatsoever
that never made sense to me if an Ikran likes you then why does it try to kill you

@@Woods1stYeah see i was all anti-Ubi, just another Farcry game but then i actually played it. It's better Farcry game than Farcry is. The opening mission really is Farcry with the intro with the antagonist but outside that it's great and has RT reflection & RTAO.

The graphical fidelity in the old game was nice and this new game has some of best graphics fidelity now

Man im seeing everyone say the controls sucked in the old game but i played the old 2009 game and i did not have such a hard time flying the ikran. I got the hang of it pretty quickly

It was and it was amazing !!! You could play as rda too driving cars flying helicopters...it was amazing and for the 2009 was soo ahead of its time

Never played the 2009 game but it looks so painful to control and sensitive too. Frontiers is a big W to a massive improvement to the flying mechanic though.

I just got the game and love how smooth the platforming is, i was really looking forward to the flying and its certainly not the worst i just wish i could do flips and have a little more control over the ikran (I never played 2009). I also wish you actually got to fight the ikran not just lasso its jaws shut.

Yeah! btw Tsaheylu is the bond the Na'vi make with the creatures and everything else on Pandora, the term for the neural queue that's protected by hair they have is "kuru"😊
and yeah, the 2009 had a lot of stupid mistakes like that, even a small thing like the Na'vi not having hair at the end of their tails or the fact the ikran you get to ride already has a saddle on it when it probably has never even interacted with Na'vi lol

you know for riding Banshee i try to attack like NPC Banshee when I played as RDA and got killed many time ,lmao@@cloudsgone don't say about riding Direhorse just run away or dismount while look at Direhorse rider they can ride and kick enemy! why we can't!? and ride Winged-lion for what i tried press mouse 1 it's look like catching scorpion but no any enemy at last just to Eywa
@cloudsgone also you aren't connected with the hair to your animal..anyway for the 2009 that was to high to have may e the technology didn't permited for many things to apply

@@kasslewis6473 i would have loved that too, it’s a great missing imho. But i guess that would have taken a lot more time to do all the various parkour and movement animation. Still it’s a masterpiece, as an OG of RPGs and a true Avatar movie lover i’m stunned by the beauty of the world these guys have created. Chapeau
make me feel like playing farcary primal. I love the survival aspect kinda cool little thing to add to Farcry mechanic.
@@kasslewis6473 I too wish there was an option for 3rd person, but I have come to appreciate some of the little details of first person. Namely just how well it portrays the scale of the Navi in comparison to the humans and their buildings,etc, like how you have to duck down through their doorways and kneel down when speaking to Human NPCs so you converse eye-to-eye with them. Still, it would be nice if 3rd person option gets added in at some point.
I wish we could fly the scorpions in this one tho, those were so fun
The cockpit is too small for a Na'Vi if we were rda just like the old game it was posibble but when here we are just Na'Vi its impossible to fly them being too big for them to enter
Oooh Frontiers reminds me of flying your bird in Zelda skyward sword. The 2009 game made flying so tiresome and boring, but I'm really excite for this game
Can you choose your own coloir ikran or is it pre-assigned?
In the new game you can pick any color that’s given, once locked in you have to earn new colors. So be certain which one you really want before the first flight and afterwards you begin collecting new colors available in the game. 😊

Avatar Frontiers is WORTH the $70 for the game. Im thoroughly enjoying it. The story is good. Theres a lot to do and explore. And the game itself is gorgeous. The map and environment even more so

Still a Shame that you couldnt Tame a Thanator or walk on the Ground/stick to a Wall with your Ikran or even control it to help you fight when on the Ground. So much Potential. It was a good Game for sure, but there was so much more they could´ve done to make it even better... idk why they wouldnt think of it.

@katerinaaqu i played it back in 2009 when i was 21 it was amazing i played rda and Na'Vi too you had a new area and you could travel in different parts of the pandora planet it was an amazing game with new things every time...fast forward to todays game we only have one area which will became boring overtime...thats why 2009 is better
Plus in 2009 in rda sidewe had cars buggys helicopter ships to drive and fly rather than now when we are only by Na'Vi side when we have only one ikran
