The song "The Sweetest Taboo" is a classic by English singer Sade, released in 1985 as the lead single from her second studio album, "Promise. "The Sweetest Taboo" is about the intensity and allure of a taboo love. The lyrics suggest a forbidden or unconventional romance that is irresistible despite societal norms or personal reservations.
The title itself plays on the idea of something forbidden yet irresistible, akin to a "taboo" that is simultaneously enticing and off-limits. The chorus includes the lines "If I tell you, if I tell you now / Will you keep on, will you keep on loving me?" which reflect the uncertainty and risk associated with the relationship portrayed in the song.
The song features Sade's distinctive vocals accompanied by smooth instrumentation typical of the band's style, including jazz-inspired saxophone solos and a prominent bassline.
- **Production**: The production is characterized by its polished and atmospheric sound, with a focus on creating a lush, intimate listening experience.
The Sweetest Taboo" was a commercial success, reaching the top ten in multiple countries including the US, UK, and Canada. The song received positive reviews for its sophisticated production, Sade's soulful vocals, and its evocative lyrics that resonate with listeners.
Sade's music, including "The Sweetest Taboo," has had a lasting influence on the sophisti-pop genre and on contemporary R&B and soul music. The song remains a staple of Sade's repertoire and is often cited as one of her signature tracks, contributing to her enduring popularity.
Overall, "The Sweetest Taboo" is celebrated for its smooth and seductive sound, poignant lyrics, and Sade's soulful delivery, making it a standout track in both her career and the broader music landscape of the 1980s. - Komedie
Sade isn't slow, she's smooth. She is the essence of smooth, classy beauty. We need more classy singers.
She is the most beautiful singer of all.
In the 80s boys were into Madonna and men were into Sade.
For me, it was, Susanna Hoffs & Kim Wilde.
I don't remember any of my buddies having a crush on Madonna.
Great performer, but not exactly a hottie.
Not the brightest comment. Loved them both, as did many others. The two stars were very different types of performers, etc.
@@shanedesselle2590 You obviously didnt understand what I meant by "into", so let me rephrase myself.
Madonna and similar pop stars were marketing themselves to young audience in both appearance and lyrics (Like a virgin, Papa don't preach...), while Sade was simply being her elegant self singing velvety smooth quiet storm music which apealed more to expeienced and cultured public.
But hey, you could have gotten this from my first simple sentence.
LOL
@@zzaretube it’s like Peggy Bundy vs Claire Huxtable
Her concerts are amazing...She's still got it.
I am sooo greatful to attend her concert in 2011 I wished I could see her in 2001 but I was 13
You can't go wrong with Sade. Smooth, sensual, classy...timeless.
Sade is an instant time warp back to the 80s.. use to put her tape into the car stereo on long road trips.. hypnotizing haunting cruising music esp when it's snowing on the desert road.. 🕊NZ
I'm y'all's age. I *was* into Sade in the third grade, actually. Sade, Simply Red, Level 42, Swingout Sister, The Blow Monkeys, ABC, Spandau Ballet, Everything But the Girl, George Michael, and all jazzy those other Sophisti-Pop and Post-New Wave crossover artists who did well on US radio at the time.
among Americans you're a rare breed
She is STILL stunning. I love her music.
"No Ordinary Love" is my favorite.❤
My best advice to everyone is to watch as many live performances she has on the Internet.
Sade is like...a smooth breeze flowing over a gentle river. Fine, fine, fine.
She’s so beautiful.👍👏👏👏♥️🌹
As a teenager in the 80's, I gravitated towards the hard rock/heavy metal, but I would always stop for my girl Sade when she was on. She is amazing and I ain't too proud to admit it.
Watch Sade singing 'Is it a Crime?' live at the Live Aid concert, Wembley, London. Mesmerizing ❤😊
And that moment she turned away from the audience arms out in that white backless top!! Wow!! 🔥
Awesome.
I was right down front and flew in for the USA, even my Live Aid London T-shirts still fit :) My fave band stole the show, and Sade was pure eye candy!
Lorddd that shit was mesmerizing
I'm 68 and love everything Sade has put out.
Actually, 'Your Love is King' is the follow up to 'Smoothe Operator' from her first album,'Diamond Life'.
Sweetest Taboo is from her second album, 'Promise'.
If you watch the music video for 'Is it A Crime' next, the video follows directly after Sweetest Taboo as it has connected 'characters' in a loose storyline.
Is It A Crime is such a great song....
@@fraymond3 It is.
Sade was a breath of fresh air in the 80’s……‘Specially around midnight in a candle-lit room….Some wine….And your lady.
I’m telling you guys play is it a crime in San Diego? It’s 20 years after this and she is way more beautiful than she ever was that is one beautiful lady and a beautiful, beautiful singer. Her voice got better and better each year. Please play that one live in San Diego it’s a live video there’s no autotune and what a great group. Some of those guys are still with her.
My 21st birthday in 1984,went to see her with 2 of my mates in Manchester UK, I still remember one of the band lit a big ass spliff on stage in-between his playing his trumpet. Still have the ticket stub.
Oh boy, I love Sade, especially her songs in the 80’s, including this one!👍♥️♥️♥️. ♥️🌺🌹
I saw her live at The Staple Center in Los Angeles 2011. It was breathtaking & sold out 3 shows. Please listen to her live, "Is it a crime" 2001🎶.
Sade is sophisticated, talented, classy and gorgeous.
Smooth Operator is such a classic by Sade..
Loved, loved her music! I was in the clubs then, dancing and singing to these two and man, did that get me some attention!!!
Small correction: it is not HER music but THEIR music. Sade is actually a band, and the line-up hasn't changed since their debut, of which Sade Adu is the lead singer. Songs are written by various band members including Sade Adu.
Beautiful on so many levels!
I’m in my 70s but was still young in the 80s. You’d have lots of generations at her concert.😉😉😉
Everything by her is great! “
Is It A Crime?” live and video are both FABULOUS. And she leads her band like she’s Ellington. Just incredible.
She’s British- Nigerian. ❤❤❤. Timeless.
I'm a straight woman who has always crushed on everything about Sade & her music. She is so uniquely beautiful, tastefully fashionable & classy. Her voice is as smooth as butter & her music is soooo sensual. She is the epitome of sensuality! Her music always transports me to some tropical paradise...speaking of which,
Paradise and No Ordinary Love are two of my favorite songs of hers. Her 1993 Live From San Diego concert and her 2011 Bring Me Home concert are also two outstanding concerts, must sees and available to view here on CZcams!
Cheers!
*****NIGERIAN-BRITISH Stunner! NOBODY has Sounded Like Her BEFORE or SINCE!
Always loved this song and this video because her band is really enjoying themselves - love the beat, her smooth, smooth voice - it's the best. Plus, it takes me back to my young years (I think i was 21 when this came out - I'm 60 now) - and it's hard not to miss those days.
I've been in love with Sade and the music since I was a teenager the '80s. Her music has gotten me through tough times, especially the 'best of' album with tracks like 'Jezabel' and 'Pearls'.
The beauty, the modesty, the music, the lyrics. A lot of 21st century female artists could learn a lot from her.
Dang! So smooth and sultry, you might as well quit counting how many panties were slipped off to this tune. Great voice!
have been a fan of sade since 1985 when heard and saw her she blew my mind and sound of the music got right away this one my favorites of hers i never got to see in concert .
I remember flipping through the channels late one night when I was in jr high (48 now😳) and found a Sade concert on PBS and I was completely mesmerized. And my Dad has always been a fan of jazz and what not so I was familiar w her before I stumbled across that concert so I have two reasons why it resonates with me and I’m grateful for the experiences🥰🖤
Agree, we’ve all been in love with Sade since the 80’s. Her videos are very filmic and tell a story, usually about Sade getting her heart broken.
I’ve been to 5 of her concerts. She is AMAZING live. 🫡👏🏾
Love her she Sixty she’s amazing
That voice. It’s so smooth. And that beautiful face.
She was (and is) stunning and sultry. I saw her back in the front row at Live Aid London in 1985, having flown over again from the USA to see my favorite band dominate! Great guys offstage, too! FBJR 👍
Gorgeous woman!
Here's a little advice for the young fella's out there. The next time you bring home a lady pour a couple glasses of wine, turn down the lights and put this Sade album (Promise) on. That combination has been working for me for almost 40 years.
She stopped making records in 2011.......... THAT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL! Thanks for reacting.
She is great in concert and toured heavily for close to 20 years. Since then, she has toured sporadically, but she still does play live.
I was 13 in 1985, and I loved Sade. I'm sad I never saw her live, except on TV for Live Aid.
Mesmerizing. Can't look away.
My favorite singer of this genre; smooth Jazz.
My favorite female singer of all time. Hands down. Give me Sade and Stevie nicks
Yes, we did see her live. Great show. Even though I was young. We went just to see her and the ;band.
There is nobody like Sade. Shes her own genre.
Sade is a goddess! Saw her in the 90s with Digable Planets as the opener. The vibe of the crowd was amazing.
She was the soundtrack of falling in love with my husband. Damn! I sure am lucky! Forty plus years later, we still dance whenever we hear a song of hers. 😽🎶💕
Bonjour, j'adore Sade je l'écoute depuis ses débuts.
this is a 40 year old song .. 40 years and still sounds current
Y'all would enjoy the live 2011 concert performance of Sade. One of my favorite bands to watch. These guys are tight. And she's definitely fun to watch.
There are some great videos on here of Sade singing live. Amazing! Your Love is King is my other favorite Sade song.
ANYTHING Sade does Is 🔥...
Amazing fact: Sade is actually a band, and the line-up hasn't changed since their debut, of which Sade Adu is the lead singer. Songs are written by various band members including Sade Adu.
She is such an amazing singer!
Some of her lyrics are also so beautiful (kiss of life) love Sade
My husband loved her voice, probably her looks too. But she is a treasure. Thanks for the banger guys!
timeless... so sad that there are many folks who've yet to discover the music of Sade
At the time couldn’t stand her music or voice, now I love Sade.
This woman is smooth as silk, her bands are loaded with great musicians and people were on the Madonna bandwagon in this time frame but Madonna can’t touch Sade not a chance in hell..She incorporates elements of jazz, soul, R&B and lots more. A fusion of all the best elements of what music has to offer..I saw her at MSG sometime in the late 90s or early 2000s . She doesn’t tour a lot , so if u get a chance to see her, Jump on it! She’s dynamite live and her band is always top shelf players!
God give it to her with both hands….the voice, the look and the body…..pure perfection ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Sade is the band's name, derived from the singer's full name Helen Folasade Adu aka Sade Adu. They have toured globally during their career and she has given interviews although not many.
Timeless music from a timeless beauty
Strange that Sade isn't a worldwide superstar.
Gotta do Smooth Operator!!!
I never understood why she didn’t reach greater heights! She’s was phenomenal!
She was ubiquitous?
To be fair, she did reach greater heights. She's one of the best selling artists of all time, who's sold more albums than Prince, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Bligh to name a few. Also she's continually renowned as one of the greatest soul singers of all time. Not really sure why so many people think she never achieved greatness, when she did.
The third video in this story is “Is It A Crime.” My absolute favorite song of hers because it showcases her range.
"Cherish the Day" is my favorite Sade track
The video is the continuation of that of "Smooth Operator", and it continues on to "Is It A Crime" which is THE best thing Sade has ever done to this date.
Sade's album back in 1985.The reason why you noticed the connection between smooth operator and sweetest taboo is that she wrote it like a book
So each song is like a chapter in the book from beginning to end. That was when most artist wrote albums in a story way. It was done so that people would want to listen from beginning to end a dying album art form we don't really see to much anymore today.
In 1985 I was 30 and was digging Sade and Anita Baker too. Sade is sultry. Her music is baby making music.
Elegant and dignified, and one of our own,a London girl.
This is a great song. Sade was awesome. Pretty easy on the eyes too. They had a lot of great tunes. I always liked 'nothing can come between us', 'no ordinary love', among many others.
I remember being in a jazz club in London first time hearing Sade, what a wonderful time to live in? imo. Please don't say this isn't the brightest comment by you know who! 😂👵🇬🇧
best concert ever, fugees opened, amazing!
I still own this Vinyl Album from the 80’s ❤
Guys you are hilarious! Sade are you real lol! Love your reaction gents.
❤❤❤ classy, smooth Sade.
You need to check out Sade live in concert footage, plenty of legendary performances on CZcams.
I was into Sade when she came out I was 17. Saw her in concert 6 times.
My father was a jazz guitarist and blues, so as kids we heard a lot of Jazz and R & B, Soul, Blues
Watch her live stuff. One of the tightest bands I've seen live and her stage presence is incredible
Goddess, beautiful inside/out.
Her vocals are hauntingly beautiful, her backing band completes her.
Fashion model turned singer.
I've seen her multiple times, last I heard 2022 she was recording in France, but this group will groom an album for a decade before release.
Quality music takes time and I adore her for sticking to it and doing it her way, not by label demands.
Saw her last when she released Soldier of Love in 2011.
If they release, highly recommend buying tickets.
Queen of Sultry period.
I am one Lucky B to have seen her LIVE at The Greek back in the day :-D
Sade is a whole other level
Allman brothers live- 1970- “whipping post” best vocals ever-
I love her song "Your Love Is King".
She brings back the eighties.
So beautiful.
Inside and out.
I’m laughing my butt off at all three of you being mesmerized by her grace. Lol (Yet I know, I have the same look on my face, too!) Mmmmm…
She wrote "Temor". There's another song they do, part in English, part in a language called Esperanto, I think. The song is "Azure" (also a really nice song). The songs are like connected, like a storyline, but that's about as much as I know about it.
Edit: bad memory. The song is "Fear".
Sade is one of my favorite singers. She had a sound like no one else in the 80’s. Cherish the Day and Hang on to Your Love are especially exceptional. 🏄♂️
Love Love Love Helen Folasade Adu. Your love is King. No Ordinary Love, Smooth Operator, Nothing Can come between Us, Jezebel.
I saw an interview with her several years ago. I won't tell you how she spoke but her band was interviewed too and they absolutely loved touring with her and a personal fact she shared she has a transgender adult child.
Great Reaction 🙏👍😎💯
She’s got a strong london accent..😊
Awesome music!
Sade shows up every 10 years or so. I know this, because I would go to each concert.
there are live performance videos here on youtube.... you just have to do a search. according to her website, she just performed live oct 2023 in Baltimore MD
Sade is an amazing artist! She drops albums now every decade or so and tours whenever the album is released.
