I have a Thai wife and she takes cares of all matters Thai. I never had trouble buying food or things at the market and I could bicycle to places to pay bills. I just watched what the locals did. The way that Thais drive is dangerous and yet comical. I have more difficulty with "reverse Culture Shock" when I return to the USA for a visit. I have less empathy for self-inflicted harm than I did in the past. The USA seems like a mess.
I think I could echo all of that except the bicycle.

@@AllAboutLifeInThailand May I ask what this price was? My guess would be, just the sheer distance placed between loved ones, your former 'normal' life, and a new, completely different life, far, far away!
Those were factors but there is much more to the story, and too much to type.
A lot of factors to consider in this one Raymond. Including , but not limited to the personalities of the individuals involved. Having said that, let me say this, there's almost no doubt that the change of environment will bring about a change in one's mindset. The question is "how much"!
