- More on the old 500C IH dozer. Showing some of the engine build and repair work. Worked on a lot of stuff but this poor thing had been put out to pasture a long time ago. Will it push? or is it to far gone.

Thank you for sharing, I follow Cutting-Edge engineering and Demolition Dave from Australlia and I C welding from Texas. I am looking at a small buldozer with a backhoe that no one wants. It never hurts to dream.
I follow the same guys , I haven't heard of Demolition Dave , I'll check it out
I remember working in the shop with my dad and how we were always putting something on in the wrong order, or backwards and have to redo it, sometime it was such a pain. but it was fun working on stuff. we had dump trucks, backhoes and grade tractors, I miss that type of shop work, I can’t do it now, i live in an apartment.
Andrew Camarata is the best teacher I’ve seen on CZcams and also Derek Bieri on Vice Grip Garage is also entertaining and a good teacher
Great video. Don't worry about not recording every thing. I appreciate the fact that you bother recording what you do. Thanks for
another great video. From a fan in Idaho.
I enjoyed hanging out with you. Great video brother!!!!👍👍👍
I know it’s to late for this one but we always put the cam bearings in the freezer a couple hours before installing them and always used assembling lube on the camshaft we never put a dry cam on dry bearings that’s asking for disaster, you may have oiled it but I couldn’t tell, I love watching
getting closer! You'll be pushing dirt soon! i just got a Unit Cable shovel going for a friend
You always deliver when I ask…. Thank you
i ran to the fridge and grabbed myself a bud light so cheers back at you lol.
great work i learn so much by watching you too just try to fix anything see what happens working on my truck too this summer
There is supposed to be a rubber star looking piece in the hydraulic coupling
I love it when people fix things cuz we live in a throwaway society
From what I've heard and read, cast steel was something CAT did a lot of back in the day for their parts the parts needed the extra strength. That being said, I wonder how much a local machine shop would quote to machine a new one. One more thing, those holes drilled on one side are there to balance that part, so hopefully you welds are making the same weight as before, but if you experience vibrations when you fire the engine up, It could be that. Just something to keep in mind for later.
I had thought about the balancing part of it but I’ll be honest it’s got a lot more problems than just a unbalanced joint lol. Thanks for the comment though.
@@EEJester1586 Well, hey, also least motivated to do the work and get it done. Depending on what you need the dozer for, and how long, really determines how much time one would spend working on it. Anyway, best of luck on the project.
Maybe you could get some segmented fan belts, they probably suck but they’d save you from having to tear everything apart just to change a belt.
the hydraulic coupling looks like maybe it used to be a Lovejoy style coupling with a rubber insert between the two as a cushion.
Actually those bearings have outer channeling, so if you don't line up the holes, it should still be OK. Though, it is recommended to line up the holes as you say.
May be that worn out spring loaded dog clutch arrangement on the hydraulic drive assembly should have some sort of vibration/impact dampener made out of rubber or something similar between the lugs?
If all those balance holes in the part you were rebuilding with TIG are any indication you might want to try and get the part balanced somehow after replacing so much metal.
Thanks for the update at least it started easily and ran well, That old girls just a prime example of why guys over pay buying worn out construction equipment and aren't prepared for the costs and problems we know turn up with being mechanics experiencing it with somebody else's money . The only thing I'd question with that stronger spring is will it pre load the thrust washers on the crankshaft way more than the original as it will force the crank back harder causing premature wear. I had a customer liked riding the clutch pedal with his foot on it, that was enough to wear the washers on one side, 1 part fell out the drain hole one day when i changed the oil. Well that's not good and we pulled the pan it had chewed the crank thrust surface and worn an 1/8 th out of the block where the thrust fitted in. After a new block and crank/rebuild bill, he figured he shouldn't ride the pedal anymore L.O.L . Take care.
I thought about that too on putting to much stress on the crankshaft. I may take a torch and weaken the spring just a touch I don’t think that would hurt it any. Very difficult to find parts for this old girl I guess that’s why more people are prone to own a caterpillar John Deer. Thanks for the comment though.
Been a while, how time does fly. Great welding, something I can’t do, but your repairs on this are much like the repairs I need to do. Look forward to the next instalment, whenever it may be. Stay safe out there!!
there is another CZcams channel called Western truck and tractor repair he really shows the work his video and audio are a bit lacking but it's because he's doing real work and paying his bills He's out of Oregon area if you don't already know him you ought to check it out a lot of heavy equipment repair.
Had a 450 case dozer drove me nut's for a while. It would aerate the hydraulic oil. And It would not leak, finely changed out the Hydraulic suction hose from the hydraulic tank to the pump. Damn thing had a crack inside that allowed the pump to suck air through the crack while running but not leak oil out.
I would have been tempted to adapt a lovejoy coupler for that pump setup
I am crazy enough to put one of those engines in a small pick up trucck
really enjoy your videos plain simple to the point. i was going to do you tube have done a few videos but just takes to much time
It does take a lot of time. I'll be honest its a chore when it is not fun but if you can make it fun you'll want to do it more. Some of my best videos I shot in 30 mins or less. Sometimes just pulling the cam it all you need to make a great video.
Cam bearings have numbers on them from a small too large diameter
For that coupling, you can buy a new one and one part weld it/bolt it to the plate. It's better that have it rebuilt and in the future you can easily replace it.
Yeahm i stand back and go crazy watching someone trying to tighten a hose clamp with a flat screw driver and so many people still do it that way
хорошая работа/ грамотный специалист!
Classic work as always
Great Video some good stuff
Job well done my friend
Oh, I’ve got the both sets of metric line wrenches from tekton, very impressed with the quality to price. Helps on the air lines I work on.
The hydraulic pump remind me of a self lubricanting Viking oil pump
Thank you God bless..
You came far, she will run soon!
Yes if we are machines we all understand nothing goes right ,yes Red green show ha ha duct tape and wire...
Great to see the deer coming to life.
Great video
Did you put ATF in the torque converter prior to reinstalling it?
A neighbor's son had the same problem after installing an engine in a vehicle with an automatic transmission and it turned out he hadn't put any fluid in the torque converter.
This bulldozer uses hydraulic fluid instead of ATF for the torque converter. But yes you’re right you should fill The torque converter. I got the bulldozer to move it was a linkage problem.
so I have IH 500 E series dozer 6 way blade carco winch
engines were built in Neuss factory Germany--typical german design for small displacement diesels--
slow speed with massive flywheels the 500 series crawlers were usually canadian built--left steering clutch packs fail often
your repair of coupling connecting crank pulley with hydraulic pump is risky--the flat spring you use may not allow adequate clearance for full retraction of pump mounted taper spline drive--this is necessary if obstruction of outflow of pump occurs--otherwise pump will explode or fracture --I had this happen--oem spring compression tension and clearance will save you many headaches--i rebuilt my pump clutch assembly 3 times
Where do you find the OEM spring?
YAY it started!
Could you have replaced that joint with a Lovejoy coupling?
Never crank a rebuild without water in the block to keep the heat off the bore and the rings
Fired a many a engine with no water in it. Never had any problem with that. Just don’t let run long.
we need a challenge video, I C Weld vs Classic Work 😁😁 lol
I would like to do that one day. I’m sure Isaac would probably stomp me but it would make some cool content.
could you use liquid nitrogen to freeze shrink the cam bearings to make them easier to fit?
Good video
🇬🇧😐
Great work my friend. I will try to contact you soon. Love your channel. How many likes do you see on your end?
Thank you sir. Likes on this video?

Hi I am Bruce bonkowski
Hey bud, check out western truck and tractor repair , Warren shows the Nitti Gritti of repairs, I really think you’ll enjoy his content
I do watch old western truck and tractor that guy works all the time I thought I did a lot lol.
Inflation, wait till the $'s come flooding back!
man hate to be a bring you down.but I had a track hole with hyd lines in the same shape as yours and your gonna be changing hyd holes all the time
I have learned it depends on the machine really my backhoe has got lines so bad I can see the oil running through them and they haven’t blowed. But yes some you can’t help.
Check our Halfass Kustoms. Cool channel out of Canada. 💪👍🏼
