  • Roy returns to Simple Cafe to continue where he left off last spring on coming to know some plants. This is part two of three.
    This episode is part two of three in the follow up to Coming to Know Some Plants from early 2020. I discuss plants with personalities that respect their space in the garden and have a durable lifestyle. These plants have provided me with the opportunity to create 1000s of combinations and also come to know additional plants that I can continue to include in the plant communities. Once you and the plants understand each other and you begin creating healthy gardens, your planting intentions will take off. When you come to know plants, your possibilities are endless and you are unstoppable. Have Fun!

    From a loving tribute to your mom to a "good night at Dog N Suds", this is, once again, such a great essay on life and the social blessings of plants....and the info I get is an added bonus. These videos are so balanced . . . philosophy, wisdom, knowledge, encouragement. Thanks Roy.

    I discovered you recently, due to watching Erin of the Impatient Gardener. I’ve been binge watching you very enlightening and interesting videos. Because of you, I took graph paper out to my woodland area this morning to document what I have planted and to see how everything is doing. Part of my borders are along/or in an intermittent stream which was flooded thru spring. Very wet clay, but happy to see the earthworms loving life! I happened on a plant that I did not plant….you mentioned it in this video…Orbexium pendunculatum…Sampson’s Root!! My first thought was to pull it out, until I saw the pretty flower and thought if it is happy and if it behaves itself, I will let it stay. Anxious to see what it does!! Zone 5A

    Thank you for showing us the true life of plants. It’s awe inspiring to see the garden as a community being created. When the plants honor each other, the gardener does not have to be a referee! Truly brilliant. I am looking forward to seeing your farm this year. I hope I get the chance to meet you. Thank you for enlightening us.

    I'm so sorry to hear about you losing your mom. I lost my mom at age 92 before Covid hit, and then my husband 9 months later. I've always gardened, but have never heard anyone talk of the emotions evoked. This really touched my heart as I have always felt an emotional attachment to my gardens. I've just found your channel through Erin, The Impatient Gardener, and I'm a fan.

    I’m so sorry to hear about your mother, Roy. What a tribute to her!
    Thank you so much for this series! I have found it inspiring and so informative. I even bought some graph paper so I could draw out some designs and imagine some plant communities for my garden.
    I am really interested in Sesleria autumnalis to plant with my Stachys Hummelo and Amsonia. However, I can’t find it anywhere!! I have been calling around to nurseries and no luck. Could you suggest a substitute? My site is sun to part sun. It’s in front of a building and never back-lit so I wonder if I will struggle to obtain the same vibrant lovely color. Thank you!

    I always enjoy your videos. I, too, lost my Dad this past November due to Covid. He would have been 90 in December. Many years ago, my cousin, Wayne Gruber, had you come and speak to us gardeners in Indiana. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

    I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure your mother was proud of your wonderful book. I purchased the Kindle version of it last year and then a hard copy more recently as I plan the renovation of my front yard gardens over this winter. Your principles, photographs and planting plans are all so helpful to me. Thanks so much for writing the book!

    Roy, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. And it's great that you dedicated your book to her (a book I treasure and always recommend). I was with my 96-year old mother today who's in a long term care home here in Toronto. I try to make the most of each visit because you never know what will happen next.
    Deepest sympathies, Tony Spencer

    Hi Roy, loving these videos, keep em up! Do you think the plants in your 'know maintenance' book would be appropriate for a British climate? I live in the south-east with mild/damp winters and quite dry summers, but probably not as hot as where you are.

    Where can these plants be found for purchase?

    • @RoyDiblik
      @RoyDiblik  Před 3 lety

      Most are available at Northwind but we do not ship plants. Check with your local nursery and start with the Latin names to avoid confusion.

    Is Orbexilum pedunculatum difficult to propagate by seed?

    • @RoyDiblik
      @RoyDiblik  Před 2 lety +1

      nope, easy. you just need to scarify it using sandpaper. (rub the seeds against the sandpaper which will allow moisture to penetrate the seed coat - a job mother nature usually does with natural friction over a much longer period of time) thanks for watching!
