Sorry for those who already have barely anything except the clothes on their backs , a few cooking pots and bed mattress to lose even that in this major flood in that area. As well, looking at old video, isn't this "Super highway" the one just built not even 12 years ago? Weren't there engineering requirements for drainage incase of such a downpour? One can see the highways have no drainage outlets. Hope the country begins immediate remediation and assist it citizens who lost their shelter and meager valuables. Thank you for the timelapse video.

In tough times like this the Gafment declares a state of Emergency and it Marshall’s all its machinery including all state organs and donors to rescue the situation to elevate the suffering of its citizens and mitigate the risks of disease, flooding etc etc we need to see them do something
This is Kenya in 2024 years after independence mostly comprised of poverty combined with poor governance, corruption, greedy haphazard non-zoned real estate developments, poor land use. These are the results of all that mess.

It should be investigated whether the flooding we are seeing in Nairobi is a result of the current county Government allowing the reconstruction of buildings on riparian land that were demolished by the previous county Government.
Riparian land is land on the natural flow path of water when it rains. Riparian land is documented by Civil Engineers, surveyors, etc.
When buildings are built on riparian land, the natural flow of streams, rivers, etc is blocked. Thus, when it rains, the type of flooding we are seeing may be a direct consequence of blocking the natural flow path of the streams, rivers, etc. Thus, Kenyans in Nairobi may be suffering the consequences of the county Government ignoring the advice of people trained to determine what land should not be built upon.
The fix, of course, is to do what the previous county Government did. Demolish all buildings that have been put up on riparian, remove the debris and then clear a path for the natural flow of water when it rains.

I know that most if not all roads have drainage installed under them, but the flooding shown by most vlogs, is beyond what any ordinary drain can manage. So the question is, are large open storm drains such as that which crisscrosses Jamaica's capital Kingston, not built? Without these drains Kingston would be unlivable. They vary between 30 and 100 feet wide and 30 and 50 feet deep. The flood carnage shown in Nairobi every year, can't continue. A modern city must control floods, not the other way around.
