- sending peace and love this St Patrick's day.
the world feels so heavy right now that I wasn't going to post anything.
but this song truly gives me so much comfort and hope that i wanted to share it in case anyone else needs it. the lyrics are pure poetry and i'm beyond grateful to Shane MacGowan for bringing them into the world.
additionally, i want to call attention to how so much of the traditional Irish music we listen to when celebrating St Paddy's sings out loudly against oppression, violence, hatred, and exploitation. to me, these songs go out to all people fighting to be seen with respect and dignity. if there's a violence and oppression that one group of people wouldn't tolerate, why should others be expected to?
so celebrate today but please keep those who are fighting to have their humanity recognized and their lives valued in your heart and on your mind. - Hudba
Their hearts in Tipperary wherever they go !
As a Scotsman who sings songs and loves folk music especially that of my Irish descent……This nailed me. I tip you my hat.Well played lass. Well played.
My favourite Shane McGowan song !!!! YOU do an amazing version !!!! I love it ... !!!! Bless your heart ❤️ !!!! Thanks ... !!!! James O Connor .
Shane's genius was that he left so many notes unsung, yours is that you fill so many spaces with soaring notes. Thank ye
My favorite Pogues song. And that’s saying a lot because there’s not a Pogues song I don’t like. This one though.
Gonna miss Shane, and I never met him.
Great cover.
I can not begin to tell you how much this means to me right now. Shane MacGowan was such an important figure in my life. Your rendition of this song is one of the greatest tributes to him, to traditional Irish song-writing, to the Pogues…to everything that MacGowan brought to the world… please know that you give peace to people who struggle to make sense of this all. God bless you and may you know that your music touches many whom you’ll never meet. Forever a fan.

Can. NOT. Stop. Crying!!!! This is hauntingly beautiful. I don't know that there is more to say than that. Oh, and the chills are next level.
Ace. One of his songs that can last for centuries. Never sacrosanct - should never be thought of as being in one man’s voice or interpretation. Good on ya girl.
Superb, lass. Your voice so strong and true as the river Shannon.

Goddamn even with that hipsing accent this shit is good
excellent version ,go raibh maith agat cailin 👍
Hi Melanie, beautiful redition of one of my favourite ballads by Shane McGowan but Liam Clancy made it his own of course. I'm Tom from Cork and I would like to help you with one or two of the Gaelic word pronounciations if you want, given that you caught the soul of the song completely.
Shane wrote the song for Liam but he never got chance to record it. Only the live version during his last show at The Bitter End where he changes the word babe to Shane each time, who's sitting in front of him. Just total respect. Like a dad talking to a son. I'm sure on the full dvd the camera cuts to Shane at some point. Just amazing. Shane does A Parting Glass and changes the words himself. Beautiful

Sometimes when the world feels heavy it helps to play lighter songs.
Your performance is an inspiration to me and to all who watch this. You should check out Sessions Live and perform there as well. 👍
Shane Mcgowan gave this one a dislike cos he's jealous :)
