He moves me so with his lyrics. I love the lyrics of his song Lorelai and when he says I've built my dreams around you in Fairytale of New York, that's it. So short and sweet...
This is such a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song - I think this is a real piece of magic thank you so much for your heart and passion and your voice is amazing!
Go on Bethany, I just searched Rainy Night in Soho as I wanted to hear a female version and yours was the first that came up, The deepness of the guitar is beautiful against your voice Brilliant! This is why Shane wrote this song, so people like you could sing it to people like us, that's folk music. You're the measure of my dreams.
Poor old Shane passed on to a better place, he got a hell of a send off today in his beloved Tipp , rest in peace boyo your music will live on 👋👋☘️🇮🇪😔🙏
I heard Shane sing this song live at the Dublin Castle in the early eighties. You're rendition moved me to tears. TY. P.S. A beautiful girl like you needs no nose ring. Good Luck and God Bless.
Despite the ugliness of the world, or perhaps because of it, humans are capable of great depths of heart rending poignancy. This song and your version of it are the perfect example of that. Loveliness and soulfulness in measures that overflow the cup they have filled. Thank you sweet lady for the song!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Just discovered The Pogues and did what I always do when I fall in love with an artist- scoured youtube for covers of my favorite songs. You do this justice.
Such a good version... I just played along with you with my nylon string guitar and I recorded it (allright with you? :-))... my friends love it... the crackling sound from the firelight... best wishes from Germany... a good way to jam in Corona Time...
Since I was a young kid my favourite song has been 2 songs: Head On by Jesus and Mary Chain and Hair Shoes by Pale Saints, I have to add Rainy Night In SOHO as an adult now.
That was sublime! What chords are you using please ? Did you have a capo ? I’ ve recently learned this song but your arrangement is much nicer than mine ! Thanks from Terry in NZ !
I agree, what moving cover of a great song! You have an incredible voice and sing with such emotion. I too am trying to ‘cover your cover’… are you travis picking with additional plucks of the 2nd and 1st strings? Also, do you take requests? If so, Light of a Clear Blue Morning (Dolly Parton), please 😊
Thanks so much! We'll I'm.not really sure what I did to be honest. It's probably the same plucking pattern I do for alot of the songs on here though. Thanks for the request.. I love that song! I'll keep it in mind :)
Can I ask you how you learned to play guitar? I'm trying to teach myself and I want to play like you do in this strumming/picking style more than anything else. Like...your rendition of this is the peak of what I could ever hope for.
Thanks for the compliment. Emmm well I started simple. Chose to learn a song with minimum amount of chords. My choice was Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles as it only has three chords in the whole song. I practiced the chords and just went easy on myself. I've been playing for 5 years or so now and I just learned songs that I like to sing along to. I've gone pretty easy on myself and havent branched out or challenged myself too much actually. So my guitar knowledge is pretty limited but I've just played around with the guitar picking and sort of let me fingers do what they want to.. I hope that helps. Pretty vague but to be honest I dont pride myself in my guitar playing. Next time I post a video I'll try and include my picking hand so you can see what I'm doing more clearly.
@@bethanyjune7345 Haha, you may not pride yourself on it but your guitar playing sounds exceptional nonetheless. Thank you for your response! And yes it does help! I'm hearing that I should just play the simple songs I like and have fun voicing them different ways; something easy to forget but good to remember. I just saw your "Hit the Road Jack medley" and saw you did show your picking hand there. Thank you for that as well! In any case, a good number of the songs on your channel will serve as lofty goals for my own playing.
The right amount of emotion and skill with a guitar to do this song justice and still make it your own. You're a lefthanded player or is it the way you recorded this that mirrored the whole thing? Please, next time get the entire guitar in frame, so I can copy what you are doing ;-)
I like to play this song myself, but when I do it, it sounds boring and repetitive (which ain't weird, considering it's the same chords and melody each verse). But somehow you manage to give it a interesting dynamic throughout the verses, really make it a story. That's just next level. I tip my hat, madam.
I think Shane MacGowan deserves the Nobel Prize for writing this line (if Bob Dylan can have one): You're the measure of my dreams...
So profoundly moving 💚

And G C D repeat. Super simple!

Like Dylan, Shane's ballads can be sung by anyone. Its the writing that's special not the performance.
Did you miss a part?
Beautiful version, but skipped my favorite verse ☹️
