  • Here's a lovely song written by Shane McGowan of the Pogues. After a brief chat with his bench neighbour, Toby leads off here with typical verve and Aussie twang :)

      @@TheBrokenPokers Thanks mates!!! I always listen to this song with a booze on my hand when depression attacks. It just for 5 mins, I am free... The meaning of this song hits me with hope... Like when Shane wrote this song for Liam Clancy to sing... Thanks mates!!!!

      These fellas are a bastion of Trad and interpretative tunes here in the west of Oz and they don't show up with mixing desks and backing tracks. What you see it what you get and flogging they give their instruments in nothing compared to the flogging the floorboards get wherever they play. Please share.

    I think it's a wonderful version playing on Clancy's orchestration. Respect. It's unique that this was filmed when it just so happened that there were 4 models joining in. Coincicdence? Good marketing and performance nonetheless? I'm sharing this x

      I have it on first hand that the lads spunked their money on the production and invited all and may to attend. No fault of theirs that those that met the call were honeys. Please leave a link to your last upload. Cheers.

    This classic tune needs more delicate treatment in order to convey its emotional weight.

    • @paulmckenzie4291
      @paulmckenzie4291 Před 3 lety +3

      MJ I respectfully beg to differ. It's precisely the emotions the lads invoke that make their version resonant. It's the lyrics and their understated and effortless musicality that weaves its way into you and gives you memories of experience that you've never had. That's a song and the Pokers are weavers in my humble opinion. I wonder how you might alter the song's delivery to render it more weighty? Less is more and emotional reach is in the ear of the beholder. Cheers.

      @@paulmckenzie4291 seriously! Since when were punk fans he snobbish ones?? This song works as a ballad as well as a more ruckus piece. I think Christy Moore gave is a similar treatment as well.

    • @paulmckenzie4291
      @paulmckenzie4291 Před rokem +1

      @@BedlemTheGoliath Forgive the delayed response but... Snobbery, or purism, exists in all milieu, it's wired into us. Being a Punk doesn't absolve one from purist tendencies. The OP suggested that an Irish musician's performance lacked an Irish feel and defined what a song should sound like. Snob or what?
