  • Kron Gracie vs Charles Jourdain took place at UFC 288 and it really exposed the fact that Jiu Jitsu in it's nature is pathetic and the worst base for MMA out of the big 3 top base styles, this is my reaction, let me know what you guys think in the comments section down below.

    I think the biggest problem with BJJ is 90% of the training starts on the ground and there is almost no takedown practice whereas wrestling is the opposite

    • @crazyjimheath
      @crazyjimheath Před rokem +37

      yeah it's weird , they gotta set it up with grapple ... or ground , like you said ... some of the BJJ during fights can be entertaining ... i get frustrated when they use the wrestling to dominate control (ragdolling) or wrapping the legs .. it's worse than the BJJ ...i swear lolol ... i love stand up .. but i can appreciate certain aspects of BJJ and wrestling ... that last Merab fight was terrible , just a boring thing to see .. the way i see it ..IF you aren't doing submission attempts or ground and pound with a ton of takedowns ... it's boring for fans , you aren't doing much damage ..it's point fighting ... basically trying to gas the guy and get the decision win .. great strategy ..but sucks to watch

    Other factor is jiu-jitsu is kinda slow and not really explosive that much so they don't focus that much on their athletic side and mma requires u to be pretty athletic
    They're obsessed with technique and don't give athletic ability that much care like traditional martial arts like wushu or something they just practice the moves usually and don't focus on being an athlete

    One of the lamest things you can see in MMA is a jiu jitsu guy lying on his back opening his legs trying to coax his opponent into jumping into his guard. This is because the jiu jitsu guy can neither take his opponent down nor stand up with him.

    After 30 years of BJJ in the limelight none of the BJJ gurus ever thought of adding wrestling as part of the system and would rather add hundred of useless submissions that would never work in real life or combat sports.

      So, there’s two issues:
      1. Wrestling requires athleticism and BJJ guys are pathetic and unathletic, generally
      2. The amount of time it requires to learn BJJ techniques doesn’t allow for extensive training of similar disciplines
      Judo makes more sense

    Ian garry actually started his mma journey through doing jiu jitsu classes just getting himself in the gym
    But ian garry chose to take kickboxing classes and work on his standup until it was his best weapon.
    as someone who had kron gracie to submit charles, it was an embarrassing performance.
    It was basically Aljos/Ryan halls strategy except humiliating the family name of the gracie.
    being a gracie and couldn’t even keep top position or get effective takedowns was yucky

      Disrespectful to put Aljo in the same bank as Ryan Hall. He is one of the most well-rounded fighters in MMA today. Is a dynamic striker, has a college wrestling background, and has the most dangerous BJJ in his division, on top of having a good gas tank. Hence him being the champion in a now stacked division.

    This is where the OG's of BJJ were worried about sport BJJ spending too much time developing unrealistic positions when there are strikes involved. But let's be real, if you don't have a balanced skill set you aren't ever going to make it to top 15 in UFC in today's era.

    • @eveningstar7812
      @eveningstar7812 Před rokem +1

      sport jiu jitsu isn’t necessarily the problem. There’s no striking in wrestling yet it transfers so well. The problem is sport jiu jitsu rarely rewards takedowns and winning on points without a submission is common. Jiu Jitsu competitions should be submission only and with tie breakers going to the guy who secured the takedown(s).

    Firas Zahabi said the main reason these Jiu-Jitsu guys don't perform is the complete lack of strength and conditioning in the training. Wrestling IS strength and conditioning, and they also do lifting and other work. Jiu-Jitsu guys often just don't have drive or strength, or the ability to get the takedowns they need.

  • @therainman7777
    @therainman7777 Před rokem +3

    I think it’s worth noting that what you’re saying was originally one of the selling points of BJJ-that it is a self-defense art specifically for the smaller, weaker, less athletic people of the world. The Gracies did claim that was the entire point. So what you’re saying is actually not that shocking or surprising at all. Helio Gracie himself said that the objective is not necessarily to win, but to survive. To not lose. Which, for someone who is small, weak, and unathletic, is kind of important if you’re ever unfortunate enough to wind up in a fight. Realistically, that person is not going to KO or double leg their attacker. The goal was to not be a total sitting duck, to let the fight go to the ground and then to be able to survive, wait for the other guy to gas out and then either escape or submit them.

    Honestly, as a NoGi only guy, I definitely notice what you are talking about but I notice it mainly with Gi purist. I think it's something about the Gi being traditional and how far gone it is from modern MMA that breeds that kind of environment. I've spoken to a few of Gi purist myself and they usually tell me they prefer Its slower, they have grips to stall, it's more traditional, they're old, etc.

    • @MrPotatoesLatkie

      Oh come one. No one who trains in a gi for recreation or competition does so for MMA. If they want to train MMA, they train no gi grappling, along with other arts. A gi wearing environment doesn't have anything to do with breeding any kind of environment for MMA.
