  • Since first going to the Western Maryland Scenic in 2021, I have chased the Diesel Power as well. With the current situation of there Steam Star #1309 being unable to go on the Turntable, a Diesel is required to tow the Train back down the Mountain from Frostburg to Cumberland. I lucked out twice, and caught 501 leading the Pumpkin Train Ferry to Cumberland in 2022. I also got the Runby with the Authentic Western Maryland Engine, 7471 leading the Welcome Back, 1309 charter Chase train for a photo runby at Helmstetters. Beyond that, the rest of this is in Chronological order leading the train back down the Mountain to Cumberland. While it is to bad I didn't get to catch the Diesels they used in the 90s, it was cool to see a Dash 8 painted in Western Maryland Colors many times, as well as the other diesels on the roster operate. So enjoy this director's cut, composed of 2 years of footage from the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad!
501, is an EMD GP30 originally built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1963. In 2018, it was painted into Western Maryland Circus colors.. The infamous Polar Express engine, 450 is a Freight rebuilt F40M-2F. 558 is a GE B32-8 Locomotive originally build for Norfolk Southern. This engine is only 2 years older then myself. Recently the Railroad announced, they purchased the 558 & another B32-8.
1309 is in need of New Pistons Rods & Heads. The Railroad is looking for donations, as they look at what the best approach will be before 1309 operates again. They have also been speaking about raising funds to do a full restoration, on my favorite engine on the roster, 734. Below is a link to donate to help the Railroad!

Second, Western Maryland Scenic recently acquired the George Creek Railroad, and two Western Maryland GP9s! It looks like they've got some great projects ahead!
As I currently, continue to edit these videos and get them ready they should be done by the end of February. I am currently awaiting various railroads to release schedules to figure out what is going on this year. Until then, stay tuned! Still awaiting the #2816 schedule to make plans on when I will chase that. If you liked this video, please give it a like & a subscribe. 2:33 I kind of missed the SD35 and SD40 locomotives this was the very last time we got to see six axel power on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad it’s a pity that the Rail on the trackage on the Cumberland and Pennsylvania section to Frostburg is too Light to support the weight
