13 Super Foods For Kidney And Dialysis Patients (2020)

  • This video looks at 13 super foods okay for kidney and dialysis patients to consume. Please enjoy them in 1/2 cup servings every day but limit 2-3 fruits and 2-3 veggies. These are going to be naturally low in sodium, potassium and phosphorus but please stick to the recommended serving size. They also contain antioxidants vitamins and minerals that are super good for you which can help reduce inflammation and reduce risk of cancer and heart disease.

    I have read that red foods are very heart and kidney healthy. Fortunately I love red onions, cherries, red grapes, cranberries, etc. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks much for your informative video. Love your additional tips on nutritional value and also how to use that food. Only concern is the use of egg whites vs. the whole egg. I love eggs but have learned the diversity of egg whites too!!! Thanks again!!

    Great video. I do know that each person with ckd does not necessarily need to limit potassium, phosphorus, or sodium. Some of us are actually low in some of these. I'm low in phosphorus for example.

      Kidney transplant/ dialysis patients needs to limit sodium, potassium and phosphorus, because the dialysis machine does NOT do a good job of filtering out these. So, there's a high risk of your body accumulating these substance at toxic level. Yes.. too little can also be as dangerous.

    Thank you so much for this video. My husband went to his doctor and found out his results last week. He was told he's at a 2. As a family of 6, I'm struggling to figure out what meals that I can make for us all to enjoy. I would love to see meal videos for this. My husband was told chicken, turkey, and fish(like Salomon), were okay for him to eat, but to stay away from other meats. He also needs to go gluten free and dairy free. So it seems a bit overwhelming right now.

      Sara B, my husband's doctor. He's a preventive doctor that looked at all his in depth lab work and found that he should stay away from gluten. We are 5 months in the journey and he has lost 35 pounds. We aren't 100% gluten free, but are pretty close to it.

    Very informative. Thanks for your low-key, person to person talk style. So much hype out there. :) My partner is 23 years diagnosed diabetic - a real tough case - and we just got test results back with not good news for kidney function. Trying to do everything we can to help.

    Thank you for these videos, my bf has just suffered acute kidney failure and just got out of the hospital and I’m so lost as to how to cook for him. Currently he’s on hemodialysis and eventually he’s going to be on peritoneal but I know that the diets are different for each one. These recommendations are for which kind of dialysis?

      Great question both modalities but PD is more liberal in general based off of monthly lab reports.

    Thank you for the information. I have a GFR of 1.70...I am very nervous about this. What can I do to get this number down??? Any advice?

      I think you mean creatinine of 1.7 which isn’t terrible. Control blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol. Stay out the hospital and watch otc medication

      Avoid dairy,avoid red meats,avoid lentils n beans, avoid green leafy vegetables, avoid root vegetables like yams n sweet potatoes due to high potassium,eggs u can have once a week,or once in 15 days if your gfr is really low,I don't know how much is 1.70,my doctor measure it in different way,mine was 26 n later it went good to 36,avoid avocados,n high potassium food.

      @@kidneycarecoaching3766 depends on other factors too.. too much salt, too much sugar, processed vegan foods etc using deodorant, water consumption problems, stress, not getting enough sleep, not carefullly washing produce, but overall going vegan and properly caring for yourself is the way to go.

      The amount of potassium in an egg is very low like 63 mg, low potassium diet is around 2000mg. Thanks for watching

    You keep bringing up pasta what kind of pasta are you going to serve to a renal dialysis patient? Canned tomatoes are a big no no, don’t you think a homemade Alfredo would be too fattening
