- An opportunity of a lifetime and certainly a bucket-list moment for any petrolhead, we spent the morning with Tom Hartley Junior and his McLaren F1 GTR Longtail, chassis 19R. This car is currently for sale with Tom for a cool $15m. We took it on road and filmed static shots at Donington Park and managed a lap too! Hear from Tom about why the McLaren F1 is the greatest of all cars and what makes this car so special!
www.tomhartleyjnr.com/car/sto...
The first of only ten F1 GTR Longtail examples ever produced and the factory prototype/development car. First raced at the Suzuka 1000km where it ran in Lark Livery and boasts extensive Japanese race history.
One of only two F1 GTR Prototypes in private hands, the other owned by renowned collector Nick Mason. Chassis 19R was also the first Longtail to ever be converted to road specification, the work carried out by Lanzante and Gordon Murray Design.

That’s it. That’s as good as it gets. The pinnacle. We peaked 25 years ago
Couldnt agree more,Shame with all the technology they can’t make anything as good
Completely agree 👍
Couldn’t agree more! Well said 🙌🙌
Truth 100000000%
Proof technology is messing things up. No such thing as a drivers car anymore.
That BMW V12 sounds like no other V12. It’s very particular and recongizable
It really is! Such an iconic noise
I disagree. This one sounds a helluva lot like the V12 in Jaguar XJR-8/9 LM or the XJR-15
I grew up in the period of 959, f40, f50...but the F1 will ALWAYS be king in my mind. There's nothing like it. Great video
Same here! Thanks for watching 🙏
I agree the f50gt is legendary but the f1 is pinnacle
McLaren F1: The real "Ultimate driving machine"
Everything about the Mclaren F1 is simply incredible. It doesn't matter how fast anything else gets, this is THE greatest car ever. Yes, EVER ❤️
Why? It's overrated if you ask me.
@@ayrtonmichaque7214 lmaooo no it was ahead of its time it still even is fastest na car to date...built as a road car yet the GTR/LT dominated racing and a lot a lot more...
@@ayrtonmichaque7214
let's look at a few reasons why people might like it
1.) Looks absolutely fucking stunning
2.) Naturally Aspirated V12
3.) Iconic due to its history, held the speed record for 7 years. Still is the fastest naturally aspirated car i think, not too sure about that.
4.) it is a driver's car, the driver's seat is centered, everything about the car is designed around the driver.
by judging all those points, yeah, it is fuckin legendary
Jajajajajaaj "Overrated" says...you need SERIOUSLY to shut up and educate yourself before making a fool of yourself, your humiliating you and dont even realize it... McLaren F1 is BY FAR the best car in the history, winning everything on road and race, even against purpose built prototypes...my god you really know nothing@@ayrtonmichaque7214
Gents, this is it - done. Chapter and book closed.
Why thank you! Kind of you to say so
This the first time a comment gave me goosebumps
Superb production lads there just isn't enough footage of the f1 documented on the internet . So its fantastic to see it driven and to hear it in action also what a informative speaker tom was in describing the car truly the"expert" .Thanks to Tom and Scd for sharing this with us. Very much appreciated from a fan in Ireland.
We thought exactly the same, there’s barely any content on F1s on YT let alone any longtails so this was a super exciting project! We’ll be releasing the full interview as a podcast in the not too distant future!
McLaren F1: 🎵Engine noises🎵
Subtitles: [Music] [Applause]
It took 16 cylinders and 4 turbos to finally brake the speed this car could achieve in a naturally aspirated configuration. Think about that..... mind blowing 🤯
Everything about this is Top Class! The car, the production of the filming and Tom’s knowledge. Epic work SCD..... Well done 👍🥃
It’s one of those days where it all came together!! The car, the driver, the roads, the track, the film crew etc were just on point!
TheSUPERCARDRIVER 💪👌
@@scd Could you find something out for me? Are the downforce numbers at 4:46 in race spec, low downforce wing, what about ride height, no canards I'm assuming? The numbers differ signifcantly from Simon McBeath's numbers in Competition Car Downforce. I can't read the heading of the two right columns, Hole 2+6? Hole 6+6?
Epic car, the modern day equivalent of a 250 GTO.
Very true!
@@scd only a little better built than a 250GTO....
Bujf vjg 😛
250 gto is the best car ever made
At less than half the price!
9:30 Onw of the best F1 sequences on CZcams, well done SCDtv! This is the BEST CAR ever. It was my wall poster when I was a kid, and has aways been my dream car. Sadly, at current prices, it will only be a dream, but at least we have amazig videos like this that shares the passion from someone who understands and love the car!
Longtail is my favorite car of all time. Its beauty is out of this world...
It’s such a legendary machine
I don't even know what to comment
Imagine a car that can win Lemans and have the top speed record for over a decade
It's still the fastest naturally aspirated car today. It's the GOAT. And it may never be dethroned.
And you can drive it on the road! Lots of miles too! What a vehicle
I'm excited to see Gordon Murray's new T.50. I suspect it won't be a far shot from the lore of the F1 or he won't sign off on it.
@@improcrastinating8063 t50 not looks well as to f1.
@@geineralexcetina3866 the newer t33 looks much better but less like an f1 homage. imo the mclaren 12c's design looks a lot more like a modern evolution of the orginal f1. too bad it didn't have murray's crazy cosworth engine from the t50
The pinnacle of us humans doing a car, the epitome that will never ever be beaten
A car that is the greatest of its kind forever and always
It even has "the ultimate drivers car" engine in it.
This will always be the greatest car for me.
I just fall in love with this. ABSOLUTELY no car is more precious than this in my mind.
Thanks for watching!
The sounds inside the cockpit are simply a symphony. Thank you for sharing, there are only a few videos that have been able to do that. Man that are some amazing engine and transmission sounds.
My favourite will forever be the LARK Team Longtail🔥 I hope to get to see one of those McLaren Legends in person one day
What an absolute treat. Thank you.
Who would put a thumbs down on this GOAT???
Always one sausage hitting the dislike button 😂
people that dont want us to have something good in this world.
probabaly some climate activist..
This is another level!
🙏🙏🙏
@@scd regards from Spain!
My dream car...!!! Thanks for sharing what it feels when driving this LEGENDARY car...
Amazing documentary about an incredible machine! Thanks for your hard work.
That sound!
Indeed! V12 Epicness
@@scd Your footage of the F1 GTR Longtail is top notch, Autocar's video on the F1 made the F1 sound like a so so inline 6, but mabye the difference in exhaust sound is down to the exhaust system differences, not the recording quality or know how.
This is the only thing that would surprise me. A race car for the road. I'm also liking the cinematic shots, you did well.
Amazing footage! Greatest car ever made, along with the CGT.
Wow guys you’ve really set the bar high with this, totally amazing!
Thanks Jason!! Where do we go from this? Haha
TheSUPERCARDRIVER Test drive a Chiron maybe! 😳
a HYPERCAR ahead of it's time and the epitome of a pure driver's car, the f 50 and the mclaren f1 were are and will be the Greatest among others no matter how many years are going to pass, the F1 as well said is at a league of it's own.............
A feast for the eyes & ears! Outstanding production and congratulations on owning & driving such an incredible car!
Thank you for the kind words!!
900 horsepower @ 2000 pounds. This will never be repeated in a streetcar due to safety regulations. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime automobile.
its unbeliveable how many people interpretate this car, especially this and i love it too so damn much, especially this design and then i heard the story and loved it even more
Excellent video. This guy knows his car.
Breathtaking!! Well done Tom. Hugely enjoyable. 👌🏽🙏🏽
Really was special to have this on the road!! 😎
Tim Crawford Cracking video Tim. What a special one to film and edit. 👌🏽
Thanks Rob! Doubt we’ll ever beat this one
Just found the channel love the story telling behind iconic cars! I remember playing need for speed and waiting to beat the game just to drive the McLaren F1 What a beast of a car
Welcome! Glad you enjoy these insights ✌️
Amazing. Thanks for sharing SCD! 👍
Pleasure! Thanks got tuning in
Best video on CZcams I’ve ever seen
😎🤙🤙
We whole heartedly agree with you 😅🙌
Great work Adam!!!!! So excited for you!
I remember when I first saw a LT in person, I was giddy like a child in a candy store! Beautiful car. Also have Gran Turismo to thank for making me fall in love with this car.
Gorgeous video
Simply splendid...T Hartley so knowledgeable also
His knowledge is incredible. We’ll release the full interview as a podcast in due course

TheSUPERCARDRIVER excluding out my price band I actually don’t think it is dear if in ten years get back to where were in 2018 run up prices could extend 50,000,000 and etypes 300,000
Amazing video - thank you 😊
Pleasure! Thanks for watching. Another 90s supercar up next!
Drooling for days! 915kg only! That sound coupled with the sequential gearbox😍😍
Madness isn’t it. Such a weapon
@@scd utterly insane! And that's putting it pretty mildly lol. Love the video😉
@@scd remember the same engine (BMW S70/3) made well over 720HP in the X5 LeMans without its air restrictors!
phat55 DSL thanks for watching and commenting! Doesn’t get much better than this
Fantastic video. If I could, I would. Oh yes, I really would but, I can't. Such is life. I'm just glad that the 1st time I ever saw a McLaren F1 (June 1998) was when it was driving down the main street in Staines(no idea of the street name sorry. I'm not from the UK and it was my 1st time in England.) being followed by a Ferrari F50. What a noise they made!
I remember first time seeing this car on my ps1 game: need for speed high stakes. As a kid a fell in love with this and to this day, there's no machine like the F1. I particularly love the long-tail design a lot, what a beauty! And yeah the v12... Harmony
Thanks fot this. Amazing !
Thanks for watching! It’s seeing the enjoyment it brings others that makes it worthwhile
Priceless! The greatest car ever made!
Gordon Murray is the kind of guy who comes around every 1000 years...or so.... so much cool goin on here!!!
My favorite car! A thing of beauty!
His voice is so calming as her engine sound
Witnessing Kenny Brack pilot this up the Goodwood hill in the shootout will always be an automotive highlight.
Absolutely the greatest thing on 4 wheels
Love the Golf ball gear knob, I had one of those back in ‘81 on my ‘72 VW Beetle 1302s. 😂
Really enjoyable video... Great car... Engineering as art
This is the only car that gives me goose bumps
That car was always and will be my dream car. Could never imagine what it is like to drive and own one.
Ours too! Hero car without doubt
Wow, the intro kinda reminded me of the Forza Horizon 4 intro splash screen with the ODESZA track, just with this older(better) McLaren race car instead lol. Great work on this! Greatest car ever made.
My fav car in that game is the McF1 GT. They got the engine note very close
It is one of those unwritten rules this is the best car ever. I'm sure its special of course, but hard to get a unbiased review. Great vid love watching it already more then once
Sure. Nice to have a debate on the subject
I was a teenager when we found from internet Top Gear episode where Tiff Needell drives McLaren F1 hard, and we watched that film hundreds of times and thought: this is the best car ever. And it was. And it is. And it will be. "Gordon Murray does not listen to radio." -neither do I.
Same here! We've watched that tonnes of times, we've exhausted the F1 content online so to create our own was unbelievable tbh!
@@scd can't help but love it.
I love it. I also know that this car isn't selling, hence it already got 2 videos appointed. Then again, I will never in my life be able to afford this car, so I can understand it will take 2 videos to sell at least. That exhaust note (on-board) just gives me the chills all up-and-down my spine. Lovely
We didn’t film this video to help sell it, we filmed it because it’s a legendary car and it needed sharing. Not many F1 owners out there willing to let a film crew get close. Bucket list moment for us to spend the day with it!!!
Such a deep breath of relief to not hear Jonty giving the review. Not because I dont like him, just because I couldnt cope with the jealousy from me knowing he got to drive this 😂😁
Yeah he wasn’t allowed anywhere near in the day cos he would of definitely asked for a drive! 🤣
An average F1 probably goes for 20 million I can’t imagine how much one of these will go for.
Surprisingly,15 mil
Hyperion R I am rather surprised as well. The last few that have changed hands have gone for north of $15M if I recall correctly. Don’t know why they just wouldn’t send it to auction as I’d think it would go for significantly more.
1.21 gigabucks.
siler7 lol
I remember seeing this car race against the likes of RX-7s, Silvias, MR2s, etc. in the JGTC. A gorgeous car
This car appeared in a lot of video games over the years and 99% of the time it was the most fun car to drive in any of them
15 mil is a steal
‘Bargain’ of the century
Where did you see that price at? Regular F1's go for 15. This car is worth more.
Justin Rush no it is indeed up for $15m. We discussed values and will release the full interview as a podcast
@@scd Hmm, I'm def interested in the reason it's only listed for 15. Maybe because it's not all original?
Justin Rush it is for sale for a while now at 15..surprised nobody bought it so far
I like his comments on the dynamic of supercar purchasers back in this era compared to new ones. So many new cars are just bought as investments and "limited runs" are artificially limited (and often in the hundreds anyways). The F1 had a run of 64 cars because that's what people bought. It was very expensive and wild and not seen as an investment. It's rarity is natural and combined with its performance and pedigree, it is the ultimate car.
What this car is is impossible to replicate today. The F1 did all. Record setting top speed and track performance and winning the top class in Le Mans. Today we have focused cars that do each one of those far better than the F1 could, but you can't make something that does all the best. I do like that SCG is building cars very similar to what this was though, race cars you can drive to the track, win the race and then drive home.
My personal fav is the F1 LM...obviously subjective. All these versions of the car a are super special. Nice vid not much footage on these cars.
A timeless machine, I remember falling in love with this car the first time I saw & drove it on Need for speed High stakes❤️💕
Couldn't agree more!
Amazing content SCD 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
Long tail
The most beautiful!!
It’s a beauty! Proper race car
F1 lm is most beauty.
The Mac Daddy!! Everything they say is absolutely true. You can take all those other exotics, put them altogether and you still wouldn’t reach the level of the F1. We salute you Gordon Murray!! 🍾 🥂
The reigning king!! 👏🏻
Mac Daddy 👏👏👏
I want to see a GTR In person at least once in my life
I'd be happy a man
My dream garage; This F1 GTR, Saleen S7 twin turbo, Panonz Esperante GTR-1, Ferrari f40 competizione, Dodge viper GTS-R Concept and E46 BMW M3 GTR.
Ok. You convinced me. I'll take two.
I’m a Huge Corvette Z06 fan. But BMW gets all my respect. What a great motor and development.
The best of the BEST!!
Thanks for watching 🙏
I’d just like a copy of that project binder. Looks superb.
$15m and it’s yours
Best Video 2020!
Thank you 🙏
I saw a, "normal", McLaren F1 years ago, blast down IH35. Really moving. Hes was in sight for only a few sec. Probably the last time I'll ever see one in the wild.
Topped it off woth the best motoring clips with tsuchiya
That paint job looks like a unicorn splooged on it. 💧🦄
The F1 in any trim is incredible but I believe that an F1 fitted with the HDF kit is best looking of them all!
Such a car with the looks, capabilities and performance perfected down to the most minor of details.
Like all car companies, they forgot how to replicate the F1
Which is why Gordon Murray has decided to do it himself.
georgeous car
Flawless! ❤
I’d consider myself blessed just to own the book never-mind the car! What an incredible automobile 🇬🇧
Yeah same here 🙏🙏
What an Amazing car.
The Car is amazing... no doubt... the graphics, hummm
Fantastic 🏆
Thanks JD 🙏
I love Squiggles. But I love the F1, My favorite car. I love everything about it. I hope before I die I can see one
Don't forget the Bugatti Veyron! That car also defined new rules in the automotive industry
Most definitely
The difference here is provenance. The F1 won Le Mans, which will always make it more special than a Veyron or Chiron etc.
Veyron is faster but it is very weight car.
Need for speed High Stakes
Playstation 1
Made the game the GOAT just because of this car being added to it.
After watching this, I go out to my garage and look at my 991.2 C2S and feel....sad. A car like this will never exist again.
Wow wow wow that sound at good wood.
Something else isn’t it 🤯💨
I just really wish that aryton Senna was still alive and part of the development which he rightfully should have been and I respect you guys for not mentioning the NSX as being the target for the comfort and usability but we already know that and we don't need to tell the public that because if you're any sort of real enthusiast and like me a dedicated mechanic based on passion rather than financial gain cuz I ain't making no money at this kind of work however my skills for improvisation and respect for no compromise outweighs anything financial we all know everything and we know you know and you know me and I know you and the people who know each other about what is real and not necessary for all driver's car no compromise car we need to say nothing because the ignorant people well even if they're educated some of these people even with all their money don't care to care about what we care about
The F1 has always been the king of the road for me, though it will be interesting to see what the GMD T.50 can do.
A McLaren F1’s symphony, is the best ever created.
Epic car epic video! Now if you could do the same with a road going F40 LM next please 🤣👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Yes ok sure, no probs
TheSUPERCARDRIVER haha legends seriously though thank you!
We have had something in the works that sort of fits this bill since 2018!! Just waiting to shoot the final segments 👀😎
