I don't actually think there is anything to replace an F40 with is there? I mean there just isn't.
I can feel exactly how he feels, I feel exactly the same towards my priced car, but of course my one is only a Lancer Evo. Not on par with F40, F40 is simply THE Legend

An Italian v8 and a Japanese 4 or 6 cylinder sound completely different for reasons going way beyond a turbo. The main thing is the size of the cylinders and the angle of the V (if applicable)
The Ferrari techs must nearly cry when they get a look at the ECU's in these things at service time and see that what most of them have done is just idle their way to car shows. Thank god the thing gets driven by an enthusiast who appreciates what he's got underneath him. Good to see. I was just a kid at the Sydney motor show when these came out. My uncle who took us bought us a scale model each. He also took us to watch qualifying at Bathurst when the Sierras were tearing it up. And so began my turbo problem...

The F40 doesn't have an OBD port, so no looking at the ECU, other than that, what you are saying is true with a few exceptions. We had a customer who had us build a race engine for his F40, he raced it in a Nevada event on Highway 95. He won the 1 mile sprint race against stiff competition, a Lola race car was second. I'll never forget test driving that car !
Thats the one car that every time the garage door opens it takes your breath away! The design and look will never get old!

This is easily my favourite car in the world. When I was a small child I had several Hot Wheels F40s. As an adult who has since donated all such toys to secondhand stores, I wish I kept those Hot Wheels F40s, they would’ve looked great on my desk!
What a beast! There are very few cars as legendary as an F40, end of the analog era. I can fully relate to the fear/respect aspect of driving one. Those endless flames at about 10:40! Epic!
F50 was also analog. CGT in the mid-2000s were all analog too... which was the last true end of the era.
@@DMBVR4 F50 has adaptive dampers so doesn't count in my book. Great car though.
Great film, well made and authentic - I had a 360 CS, which was very special and got offered an F40 for 150k GBP. When I heard it needed a 30k GBP service I didn't have your balls to take it on. Massive regret, it was my dream car and still is...
Best film on the F40 I've ever seen. 10/10. I will own one at some point. I was on the correct trajectory about 20 years ago but I hit a stumbling block in the shape of a 924 Carrera GTS. Lost a load of cash and then the business went under. Still got a nice collection, but it adds up to 50k!

6 years ago Chris harris tracked an F50 & an F40 having a little chat with Mark Hales. IMO it's one of the best content about an F40.
Drove one in Kuwait after the Gulf War, brilliant and privileged to have done so. Marvellous vehicle......

among all F40´s Videos this one has the Best Sound and Audio Ever!!! @ 1:00 to 1:08, 3:45 to 3:53 and 4:05 to 4:10! How many here got the chills and watched it again and again and ... again??? I had the priviledge a few times to be at the passenger side in a yellow one in Friuli Region, Northern Italy. I have clicked the Like Nr. 3000 of your video ;)!!!

This guy is just oozing passion, amazing interview. I know the F1 was a greater engineering achievement. But the F40 is the purest expression of 'Supercar' ever made. If aliens asked us to send them a supercar example, it would be an F40.

I first saw the F40 in 1987 when I was 7 years old and was blown away by it. I'm now 41 and I'm still blown away by it. The only Ferrari I would buy (if I had the money).

The most spectacular car ever made!
I love seeing people who actually drive these cars rather than lock them away for investment. There is one local to me and seeing it out driving just fills me with joy.
I remember it launching in 1987 and at 9 years old nagging both my parents to take me to the Motor Show at Earls Court just to see it in person. I was not disappointed.
Will always be the top of my lottery win garage list.

Wow let me just thank you for sharing your experiences with this super legendary F40 car here wow. I so remember this car when it came on da seen in my younger days . Money car garage did a rebuild on one of these cars . This one here is amazing n ya story is priceless so thanks again
When I moved to NW London 10 years ago, I saw an F40 driven by a Sikh guy and 10years on in 2020, I saw the same guy using his F40 in chiswick last week with a big cardboard box in the passenger seat? And between 2010 & 2020, I've seen him a couple of times on the Great west rd and in Norwood green garage, southall. Still looks Awesome, sounds good too.

I remember reading about these in the Sun Newspaper at work when they came it was all "you have a piece of string to close the door and you can see the weave under the paint etc etc". I'm not into cars really I much prefer motorbikes but if my numbers come up this is the car I'd have, no question, no doubt. I'd love to just sit there and look at it, clean it and of course drive it, funny thing is I've never seen one in the flesh but man I want one so bad it makes me feel all funny. Oh well, maybe one day.

Love the way you so accurately describe driving the car as "point and shoot" so true, lots of throttle control required when driving twisty roads. Was wondering what, if any, problems you've had with your F40 ? Some bell housings like to start gassing and results in clutch hydraulic failure, also the Weber fuel regulators fail over time and now are impossible to find. We have also had fuel tanks filled with debris from the materials that hold the fuel pumps disintegrating. Great video that brings back happy memories...
She's been pretty good to me. Fuel pumps failed and I had an electrical problem but that aside all good. I service it myself so every winter we stip the car and go over everything. I look after it as best I can, its all part of the journey for me. Best of luck to you.

This is a story that doesn't get much better for a car guy. He probably paid half a mil for the car when he bought it 10 years ago, now it's worth 3 mil and he drives it! Yes John...you pulled rank on me with Dash to jump in with him! Decatted with tubi straight pipes...I still see it in my head at the traffic lights. Same car was warmed to go down the road the following weekend and a client came in...and that was that opportunity gone.
I'll never forget it, I think we were all scrambling over any opportunity to get in one of those cars. Hope you are well mate.
