As a cosplayer myself, I wanna say that this community can attract some people with a tendency to get obsessed with others involved, whether that be jealousy or a romantic/sexual type of obsession that could both lead to stalking. The fact that the killer seemed to be in cosplay makes me think it was someone who fixated on Liz and had a one sided obsession with her and wanted her dead.

Oh yeah, I was super into fandoms when I was a teenager. There are some people who make it their entire lives, with no other interests, hobbies, friends, anything outside of their chosen fandom and the obsessiveness can be truly terrifying. There's a YA novel that I quite like which explores this, called I was born for this by Alice Oseman, the same person who wrote Heartstopper (that new Netflix show)

My theory too. I think it was jealousy. She had a lot going for her. Not saying she didn't earn it all, but that just makes her all the more respected and impressive, and she seemed very modest. Very easy to hate someone like that when your life is going down the pan! jealousy is extremely powerful.

made me wonder if its someone maybe Sergio possibly knew? Like maybe knew bc of cosplay but was an acquaintance. Like she liked him but he she was never on his radar type thing. I rly feel like it’s a female that killed her otherwise I’d think a man that was obsessed with Liz had killed her.

  • @storiesinthedust

What really breaks my heart is that the shooter shoots her 3 times and then stands over her and shoots her again while she’s down. That is 10000000% a personal murder. Whether or not Liz knew her attacker, I have a feeling they knew her. Professional hits don’t need 4 shots. It could be someone who wasn’t a professional but still hired to do it - but it’s way too sloppy to be a professional hit. They need FBI profilers on this one. I have a feeling studying her community would bring out the culprit real fast.

@@Kdkdleeme that effectively takes out all the people she advertised to the following night. For a planned, deliberate murder it reduces the suspect pool to people she knew well enough that they knew where she lived.
I have no idea about the cosplay world but I'm betting like every other activity out there that if you meet a thousand people, you'll still only become close friends with a handful.
This eliminates half her church members as well, again one develops close friendships with only a few.
That leaves coworkers, close friends, family and spouse.
In that barrel we can kick the coworkers because if they hired a hit man, the hit man would expect her to go to work Friday morning. I dont see a hit an casing a house twice if he knew her schedule.
Friends, family spouse knew she would not work on the Friday. So who is a friend, who is in her church and does cosplay and was online Thursday night to give the hit man a heads up?
Sorry, this is my opinion only and I have nothing to substantiate this theory except that to sieve your suspect pool, you look at possibilities and work them down to probabilities. Sorry about putting it here, I know you were replying to the other reply.

Maybe the husband had a stalker, someone within their star wars community that they didn’t necessarily know first hand but fixated on him and their relationship. It seems that some stalkers can actually delude themselves into thinking a relationship exists. So if this person approached Liz and said something like “we are in love” or “he wants to be with me” or any other lines people in that situation would use, that would account for her “it’s not true” statement? It would also explain why a woman in costume would be the shooter. I know they said Sergio didn’t meet his wife until 2021, but maybe she knew who he was already? Is there a way to go back and see who was viewing his social media pages on a regular basis?

and everyone using a stalker theory, there's a FLAW. Stalkers will usually approach their victim to FIRST get them BEFORE they attack or kill. Because they want to be with them and have them. So someone would have known if some guy was obsessed with her. Most likely her best friend, her husband. So why isn't ANYONE suspected? I find that hard to believe. If she had a stalker, he most likely already showed signs or approached her. No way someone would stay hidden in the shadow to just kill her and take her out unless they are a trained serial killer. Even STALKERS have an obsession with their victim and would prefer to first try to be with them before taking them out and risking prison time.

Hey Kendall, I think it would be really great if you could cover the case of Joey Lynn Offutt. I'm from a small town in PA called Sykesville and 15 years ago there was a mysterious fire in which the burned remains of her baby boy Alexis were found. After all these years, Joey still has not been found and her family is still searching for answers. I am a neighbor from the town and live on the same street where the house fire happened. Her two daughters had to grow up without their mother and are still searching for the truth. It is a very interesting and tragic case that I think deserves more attention in the hopes that her family can get the answers they deserve.
Please like this comment in the hopes that she will see it and do a video covering this case!

Please message Kendall! She will definitely see this. I know it. ❤
Hopefully, coverage from one creator, especially one as popular as Kendall, will garner more coverage! Then, I hope more answers follow. You'd be surprised how many people start to talk years and years after a crime. Most are afraid to say anything because they're afraid of getting hurt, too, or in trouble with law enforcement for not saying anything at all. Let's get this to Kendall! Message her immediately, love. ❤

So I took the audio from the surveillance camera and tried to reduce the noise as best as I could. I am no professional by all means, but I could hear the following things.
The world "kill" is used several times by the attcker during thw whole conersation. Which I found so odd, at how often they used it.
Liz is saying "It's two before seven" or "It's ten before seven." I assume the attacker asked what time it is. Seems like a really odd move to me, but maybe the murderer tried to get closer to her by that.
They could be saying either: "I am going to kill you.", "I am here to kill you." or "I am hired to kill you."
After that you can hear Liz say "Please don't it's not" and it is interrupted by the wind. I believe she says "It's not worth it."
Then the attackers delivery of words get kind of strange. I can't really decipher what they are actually saying. But they get louder and their voice sounds almost dramtic, as if they were in some kind of actor.
The murderer could be saying "Sir" or "Sure" and then I deciphered a "You're an" and it get's interrupted again. The last word could maybe be "airtroop" or something.
After that I strongly believe the attacker said "I hate you."
And then the murderer get's again this weird type of delivery lines. But because it is so windy, you can't make out what they are actually saying. It almost sounds like they are following orders or mimicking a robot of some sorts. I think they are saying one word at a time.
Before the shots go off the murderer says "I'll kill you." again.
What I find especially interesting, is the fact that Liz voice sounds very faint and "normal" even when it is slightly distorted by the other sounds while the voice of the murderer is very "loud" or let's say dominant. It also sounds extremly distorted, like not human at all. It sounds like they were using a voice changer, almost like Darh Vaders voice.
I am also confused that there seems to be no information out there at how Liz described the attacker. I am guessing she was so badly injured that she couldn't speak anymore, but if she wasn't she might have been able to give some clues maybe.

I'm with the Dad. This was planned, she was targeted and the intention was to kill. The final shot, standing over her and it's location, tells you that. Maybe it was someone in the cosplay community that was obsessed with Sergio or maybe there was some sort of jealousy, or perceived "affair" or something. You'd be surprised what people will do just on a suspicion of their SO cheating, or even just giving someone "extra" attention (in their mind). The "good morning" doesn't suggest to me that she didn't know them... if it was someone she knew from the cosplay community, but didn't necessarily speak to a lot, or didn't know personally, she could've greeted them with the same phrase. Like it does sound like something you'd say to a potential yard sale customer, but I wouldn't let that one phrase rule out people she knew. This case is heartbreaking and baffling. And just because a marriage seems good, doesn't mean it is... who's to say one of them didn't have a burner phone from straight talk or something that they used to only communicate with their "fling" that nobody knew about? Like in a case like this, where there's seemingly no motive, NOTHING can be ruled out as a possibility, because there IS a reason, trust me. You don't just walk up to someone and kill them for no reason. There's SOMETHING, some little tiny detail that they're missing, I'm telling you. God, I pray that you shine your light onto the evil person hiding in the dark, that took poor Liz's life, so they can be arrested and brought to justice. I pray this in Jesus' name, so it is. Amen.

It’s weird to me that Liz decided to do a yard sale last minute when up until that point she had taken so much time to plan ahead. Also why did she need that extra cash when they both had been working full time? If I was going on a trip I’d want to relax and pack the day before, not do a last minute yard sale. To me it seems like she was convinced to do it last minute the night before and only 1 other person would know that conversation happened.

This was not the work of a professional. No silencer, 4 shots, intentionally striking fear into her before. Besides knowing exactly where the neighborhood cameras were, it was messy. Hearing the audio my first thought was that a man absolutely killed her, but then I realized that if they ran in cosplay circles, it’s very common for them to use voice modulators (for darth Vader for example). I think it was a woman with a voice modulator of some sort, definitely a crime of passion. She was either a stalker who was envious of her position in the organizations they shared, or she was sleeping with her husband. The timing of the murder and the rate at which he remarried is concerning to me. Statistically, the murder of most women is at the hands of their significant other. The timing of the murder, 5 minutes after he left for work with his poor wife setting up outside all alone in the dark just doesn’t feel right to me. Burner phones exist, and they’re very easy to obtain tracelessly and get rid of. My heart breaks for Liz, she deserved so much better.

Not trying to demonize but being someone a part of it and knowing how mean and clique it can be, It wouldn't be crazy to believe that she was targeted for just being the good person she is. If they never met her it could be someone that has seen her. I feel the person it could be could be tied to the fan community because of her heavy involvement. The way they smoothly walked up is indication they knew her and whos house they were walking up to and they came as soon as Sergio left so they watched them for a while to know the schedule. Consider this theory: What if the killer was obsessing over their somewhat recently purchased home? I recall a case where a woman harassed a couple relentlessly to drive them out of their home because she felt she had lost her dream property to them. Similarly, in "The Watcher" case, the perpetrator stalked a new family, meticulously documenting their every move. After weeks of observation, Liz's killer could also have learned her routine and waited for an opportunity when she was alone. This would explain why Liz didn't recognize the killer and greeted as if he/she is a stranger. It's possible the killer's words to Liz were, "Do you live here?" or “is this your home?”

Just, you can't judge someone for finding and accepting love after losing their partner to death. My boyfriend with whom I lived with tragically died unexpectedly last year and I was amazed by how life presented me with a past love I never got to try things out with. People need love. I still suffer every single day from the loss of (and finding) my ex dead; trying to save his life but not. No ill will from this, and maybe he is guilty, I just want to get this message out there: When your partner dies, it is okay to "move on" as the rest of the world says. When it happens to you, you will very much so know that you will never "move on", but that in finding and accepting a new love after losing love to death is actually quite beautiful and what I strongly believe we are meant to do. For surely you all know the alternative is to suffer and be alone; why would you want that, or even expect that, from someone who suffered a tremendous loss? Surely one you cannot relate to, or else you would not be judging his actions after his traumatic loss. With love.

This case reminds me of the Missy Bevers case. Both took place in Texas...Missy Bevers happened in 2016...Both killers were dressed in some type of costume or cover...Both killers seem to be very bold, unconcerned about getting caught, may have cased the area, about the same height, and unsure if the killer was a male or female...Unfortunately, it is hard to get a good view of how Elizabeth Barraza's killer walked...perhaps someone with a connection between the two...Great video...

This is blowing my mind. Could have been a coworker she made mad. Could have been a random killing. How were gangs in the area? What’s throwing me off is the truck driving the day before checking it out. That has been confirmed to be the same truck? That’s a deliberate killing to not find one single piece of evidence as to who had it out for her to the point they were stalking the day before. Any local stores near by that seen the truck? Gas stations? I mean this is just crazy to me.

But honestly I’m dumbfounded at this, really curious to see if it ever gets solved.

A few thoughts. If the shooter was tied to the Cosplay community, I would think they wouldn't wear one of their costumes because that would link them back to the Cosplay community. My thought is that it is someone who knows Elizabeth is very connected with Cosplay and dressed up as one of them to keep their identity even further away from who they really are.

I think the same thing! It’s even possible they wanted to dress up to frame the husband. Since they know he would have access to something his wife possibly would wear at a convention. Definitely not a coincidence that they dressed in cosplay so it has to be someone that knew her.

Obviously I am watching this video a little late but I have a theory that is kinda “out there” but could be something. Is it possible that the person who shot Liz was playing out some sort of real life fantasy or something to that affect? The reason I ask this is because since they say that the suspect is wearing what seems to be a Princess Leia costume and Liz was part of 501 legion, which is a storm trooper thing, in the movie when Princess Leia is breaking out of captivity she shoots her way out single handed, is it possible that the suspect was playing this out in real life and shot Liz because she was a storm trooper? It’s a far out there theory and kinda stupid but I thought I would put it out there

Has anyone ever looked closely into the videos of the first vigil? From all the crime shows and true crime youtubers I watch, usually a preplanned murder like this makes the murderer go to the vigils because they feel smug or want to relive it or something like that.
