Why the British Fleet came to Hong Kong and looting this great city in 1840 and they lost this great City during the WW2 when the Japs came in the Christmas Day 1941 and the Royal navy came back in 1945 , if the Chinese fleet come to the UK homelands in 2023 , What do you think about it , that's Why people should love each other and respect for each other in this Earth
I am truly impressed that you done your homework and researched in the history of Hong Kong under British Colonialism...There are still people in the UK believe that the UK owns the moral high ground and can intervene in China's internal affairs related to HK. My hats off to you for your bravery in speaking the truth. I hope you won't be getting hate from the Brits.
Exactly. It's so weird to me that Britain which is Thousands of miles away still think they have any power over the land they STOLE and which China took back home again and made prosperous. China is one of the only nations to be able to fight against colonialism andsadly many countries don't have much power.
@manfunny917 Nah, criticizing a democracy is not brave. Brave is making a video about how many Chinese suffered and died under the Great Leap "Forward" and Cultural Revolution while living in China
The HK domestic workers, mainly from Philippines, get together in public parks for meals and socializing on their days off but when it rains, they just hurdle together under covered walkways and spend the time eating and talking.
@@livinlavidalukethey are domestic helpers who love the centre location to get together becoz it’s convenient to each other. I spent 10 years living in Hong Kong between 1992 and 2002. I saw the change when Hong Kong returned to China 1997. You are correct, Hong Kongers had more freedom after the British ruled. The British took so much money out of Hong Kong.
Yes, they are domestic helpers from Philippine and Indonesia. But there are indeed some homeless ppl (like in Sham Shui Po or Mongkok) and ppl living in small flat as tiny as a cage (20-50 ft2)
While there are homeless in Hong Kong, those you show on the video are actually domestic helpers from SE Asia taking their holiday. The domestic helpers would go out and kind of take over the financial district and have their "picnic" there for Sunday or any holiday. Normally, they live with their employer but on holiday they would spend the entire day away from their place of employment.
I am from Hong Kong so glad you came here but definitely two days are not enough to see HK! I would say Hong Kong is a very good place to live concerning lots of options for food, good education, good transportation, living convenience, nice scenery, free flow of money, low tax rate, high freedom, very safe to live & etc. Since Hong Kong is a financial center I have to admit it is one of most expensive place to live as well ! Btw, One shot you shown they are not homeless people they are foreign domestic helpers, they usually gather together in their day off on the street/ bridge! 😅
I was born in Hong Kong and raised in Canada. In comparing Hong Kong to the Chinese Mainland cities, I much prefer the latter. They have a standard of living, cleanliness, and safety that feels a lot closer to Canadian cities.
Thanks for the video on HK! I’m a big fan and follow all the China CZcamsrs. My family lives in mainland, but I’m here in HK. The wealth inequality is absolutely a problem here. 1 in 5 people live below a poverty line that is half the poverty line in America! Quite shocking considering how expensive it is to live here. So I agree with you, am much more supportive of the system in China. Hope you are able to visit again soon and spend more time in HK next time!
Oh thanks so much for clarifying - i asked one of them who was a filipina and didnt speak english well and she said she had no home, but it makes sense all of them aren’t. But other than the video, there were a few beggars on the streets for sure
great video outlining the history of HK which you have hit the nail right on the head. i think you are right on many points, HK is cool for a week or two but there is certainly more to enjoy in China. I seen loads of homeless people in HK!! albeit not the ones (the domestic helpers on their one day off) you shown in your video. the homeless are usually men sleeping under bridges, and in areas like shamshiupo and in recent years even in Wanchai where they sleep in 24 hrs macdonalds.
Thank YOU, Luke... you have such a noble and pure heart... your words bring healing and understanding... I love that ringing noise from the traffic lights... It is so uniquely Hong Kong hahahaha... Welcome to Hong Kong .Hong Kong is an international city which is a mixture of west and east cultures. Nx time , you can visit the discovery bay which is a beautiful island where many western people living in .
Looking at the British Museum, you may wonder why there are so many Chinese cultural relics in foreign museums. In fact, the Chinese cultural relics displayed in the British Museum are only the tip of the iceberg, and most of them are stored in warehouses because the UK has acquired too many Chinese cultural relics. Long ago, Britain invaded China and set fire to the Old Summer Palace, plundering Chinese cultural relics and transporting them back to Britain. The Chinese cultural relics displayed in the British Museum are not only a symbol of British colonial aggression against China, but also a shame to China. China will never forget that it will sooner or later make those bandits pay the price. Because bandits and villains are always annoying.
Yeah. Those are mainly the laborers from the Philippines and other southeastern countries having lunch or breaks. Hon Kong has to import their laborers from other countries.
I am English, I love China and it’s history which is just magnificent, if a bit bloody. Having learned some I think Britain owes China more than any other country. We need to stop picking on China. Considering what it has achieved in such a short time it is truly astonishing and amazing- other places like Africa I think would have been better off had we stayed. What we did with opium was absolutely appalling. This is the one country I would like to apologise to. So yes, I would go to England and tell my friends - which I have already done by the way, that what we did to China was truly appalling, but that is history and how the world was at the time, but if there’s one country we need to acknowledge what we did, it is China. And I would say that to anyone. I expect many people know this already at home. It would not be news.
10:24 "There are many homeless people, there are beggars" ....actually you misunderstood the scenario. Actually they are not beggars nor homeless people. Those are just the tens of thousands of domestic helpers coming out to rest and gather with their friends during the weekends at Central because there are fewer people at the business district during the weekend. It is totally different from what is happening at NYC or San Fran or Phil. It happens every Sunday, It is a common thing in HK. Don't misunderstand that. Of course, there are homeless people, but it is not that serious and many are waiting for social service and some refused to accept govt's help.
I guess you were in HK some time last week? around the Ching Ming Festival (AKA Qingming Festival) which was on the 5th? You should expect rain around that time according to the Chinese Lunar calendar. There is even a well-known poem which associates Ching Ming with rain. It's not 'science' and it might not be true outside East Asia, but it's ancient wisdom.
Oh, almost forgot... yes, there are homeless people in HK, but not those shown in your video when you mentioned the subject. Nope, they are foreign maids (mostly Indonesians & Filipinos) spending their day off with fellow maids. Since they are more likely to send their hard-earned cash home rather than spend it, and there are precious few places to house so many people for free in HK, they just have sort of 'urban picnics' in various places in the city. 😅

@if i am a foreigner, i will prefer Hong Kong more. I am not saying mainland is not good, it has many good things. Mainland has so much to offer, different styles of architecture from different minorities, different style of cuisine 'ba da cai. xi', you name it. But the problem is it is almost impossible to get a permanent residency in mainland, whereas in Hong Kong it is not difficult, all you need to do is literally staying there for 7 years legally. I assume, if you love China, you will want to become a resident one day, but not necessarily giving up your original citizenship, you can do so in Hong Kong, but in Mainland it is like 100 times harder.
