    Nicely thought out.

    Problem with this approach is if someone wants to attach heavy items to the walls afterwards. They don't know where to find those shims

      For handicap and grab bar blocking we recommend the needed thickness of wood shims between the wall panels and the blocking, or move the blocking out as needed because now you know how far to being out the blocking. For smaller attachments such as shower wands, the tile does the heavy lifting.

      @@builtwithfoam277 Have been doing it for 25 years, try to do mostly bathrooms instead of big floors. Still hurts a lot, mostly because i've always worked for someone else.

    This is a nice idea, but it can`t be compatible with a wet area. If we use a cement board sheeting, it will be a weak point for touching only shimmed areas for heavy porcelain tiles. It needs for a total along studs coverage.

    • @builtwithfoam277
      @builtwithfoam277  Před 2 lety +4

      You can always add a bead of adhesive between the shims or increase the number of shims. We have spoken with the cement board manufacturers and they said the use of our shims where the fasteners are does not void their warranty.

    Not everyone has a laser level so right there I'm out. LOL. I do have a regular level though. Can these be attached with titebond 2 wood glue?

      @CabotAndRowe Před rokem +2

      We should make a new video using a level. Titebond works well for adhering the shims.

    WET SHIM

    • @builtwithfoam277
      @builtwithfoam277  Před 9 měsíci

      Our shims speed the wet shimming process because you don't have to wait for the thinset to cure before driving the screws in all the way and thus you can continue the waterproofing without delay. . Since the shims act as depth stops, you can't overdrive the screws causing the boards to get pulled too far into the thinset. No buckets of thinset to mix or clean up later. You can stop and start at will without worrying about thinset curing or skinning over. There's lots of good reasons why our customer use our shims, including pinning floors for SLC pours and on ceilings. Wet shimming a ceiling might prove a tad messy.

    its hard to believe that these walls are that out of plumb.... fire the framers

    • @builtwithfoam277

      Unfortunately this is very common.

      Hard to fire them once the job is finished unless you're up their butt every step of the way. Ideally you would just course-correct instead of giving them the boot after their first wall is framed. You don't want to be one of those people. I'm currently dealing with studs out-of-plumb in a manufactured home. Wish I found this before just ordering a few batches of drywall shims 🤦‍♂️. There are so many issues I've encountered in this place. Too many to name, but the interior walls weren't even 16" on-center. They threw up studs almost at random with oddly placed pieces of lumber here and there that don't even span the gap. Some of the studs don't even reach the top plate so they shimmed with cutoff pieces of cabinet moulding and used a million staples (more like a billion) all over the place. Sad because it was built about 20 years ago. Wouldn't expect some of the things I've discovered. The exterior walls are better, but not great. I've also had to replace a ton of subflooring, which required shimming and planing joists. Not to mention the plumbing issues I've had to deal with or the many circuits with pinched wires/stray voltage. At least it's on a nice property and was set on top of an icf basement. Despite the flaws, it's robust. I'll move in and relax someday. I'm 6 months in and I'm beyond emotions. I don't feel anymore. I just go. I probably average 5 hours of sleep every night. I'm here right now taking a break and trying to find an easier way. Sorry for the rant. Have fun with your layoffs!

    Bag of cheap thin set is $15 and goes a long time. 😅 But nice product otherwise.
