I Failed Building The AMT 1951 Chevy Fleetline Model Kit :(

- Well, it happened! The AMT 1951 Chevy Fleetline car model kit beat me and I failed to complete the model kit. The model car kit is ill-fitting and a bear to get looking good. But, the car model kit is not a total failure. I was able to practice model rusting techniques, the toilet paper technique, and learned not to waste time trying to fix a kit that is not worth it. So the 1951 Chevy Fleetline model car kit from AMT will now become a paint mule or a practice model kit. I will still be making a barn diorama but using another car kit.

Thanks for stopping by again everyone. And, if you haven't please join us at www.community.hobbylinkinternational.com
That is to bad..the weathering looks fantastic!
Thank you. Not sure what I am going to do with it. May have to do a junkyard dio :)
Oh man, no worries Kenny, the patina was looking sweet. Just a clunker of a kit is all. 😊
Thanks BG. Will still use her in a diorama so not a total lose :)
@@HobbyLinkInternational 😉 That's the spirit!
Afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you. Most videos I've seen on this topic just kind of talk you through it instead of actually showing the techniques through the entire process step by step. So if this was a failure, keep screwing up because these videos were a huge help to me and are very appreciated. Thanks
Thank you very much for the kind words. I wish it was a better fit. It just got really nasty to work with. But, she isn't going in the trash :) the build will be used in some sort of diorama even if the car is in pieces.
@@HobbyLinkInternational That's great, and if you ever decide to show the rest of the techniques you used to get it to that point, I for one would love to see them. These videos really have become my go to for weathering a car.
vintage airfix 1/72 harrier, got the canopy on and it was too small, tried filler and thought nah garbage kit binned it sometimes you just got to put it down, you feel robbed of your time and money but i am more stunned by how an obvious fault in the mold gets put on the market. enjoyed seeing your rusting techniques thanks for the vids
Thank you :) and thanks for checking out the video. And everything you said is absolutely true :)
About a year and a half ago I ran into a mess with my Mig 25 but I figured how to un-glue super glue and a year later I finshed it, and I'm actually happy with it, sorry about your Chevy bro.
Thanks Henry. Holding on to it and will eventually do something with it.
@@HobbyLinkInternational definitely. You put a lot of work into it, that paint job was incredible, I watched your videos and your skills are great my friend.
@@henrysanchez4810 thank you very much!!
You did a great job on the rust and weathering effects and it'll still look good for a diorama. Experience gained is always a good thing :)
Thank you Boyd! The other experience I gained was don't smash the kit when things don't work out lol you never know what can be done with it later. I put her in the box and I am thinking maybe a junkyard diorama somewhere down the line.
To bad, hope the next project it’s a lot better brother
Thank you! Definitely going to make sure I pick a better kit.
@@HobbyLinkInternational 😂, you know something, I think that’s one of my problems, as soon as I find something that I can’t do a put the kit on the box and stay there for months until I remember or find it, that why I’m try to finished all those old projects that I have in the works
Definitely not a failure if you got to practice techniques and learn stuff. As Alfred said...why do we fall? I toss so many started kits so I hear what you're saying
Thanks Joe. Definitely learned some stuff and will get around to it again and repurpose it somehow. Even if it is just to practice on :)
dang brother it looks great to bad on not getting it done but the rusting is awesome
Thank you. Putting it on the side something will be done with it. May be a junkyard diorama :)
I'd expect that from MPC but AMT!?
That's too bad, but I feel ya brother! Sometimes you just have to call it.
The body looks pretty badass though and was a lot of fun to see it progress.
Thanks Kalan. It is an older mold so these things happen. Off to the next build :)
It's only a fail if ya put it back in the box.
Excellent weathering. 👍
Thank you Charlie. Going in the box for now. Actually sketching out a diorama for it :) No way is it going in the trash :)
It's cool as a rust bucket as you have it. You have to look at it objectively.
Thank you :)
Bummer....
Well you can still keep it as a test piece for weathering or something :)
Yes definitely keeping it and will be doing something with it.
The rust on that looks amazing. Sorry the kit let you down. I have a few that were put back in the box & will probably not be looked at again.
Thank you Eugene. I learned some new stuff so I am happy.
Mine was a 32 ford phaeton kit 😅
Man, this kit killed me :( lol
I can't tell you how many kits just get unfinished due to losing my mojo with it for various reasons....I live by win fast/lose fast 😁
I like your motto!! Just wish it didn't end up bad towards the end. But there are plans for it :)
We all get that dog of a kit from time to time Kenny, I built an A Model 1/48 Gipsy Moth last year that was a complete nightmare build, I did finish it, but it was a lot of work for such a basic kit. However it inspired me to build my 28 inch resin Star Destroyer that I had not touched since getting it in 2016, I figured it could not be any harder to build than the little Gipsy Moth kit, and although it was a lot of work it went together and I am proud of the finished results. Just goes to show one failed kit can inspire you to tackle another project.
Very very true. Not upset it didn't go well as AMT is not the greatest kits on the market plus this is an older kit. Now to pick my next build.
Turn it into an old abandoned wreck diorama
I was thinking maybe a junkyard diorama too.
Yep I've had my share of total bombs. Most recently the AMT '66 Nova. But it was a POS right out of the box 🤷♀
This is my first in awhile so not too bad of a run :)
Have you tried fire that always works for me I still want to complete I probably will have to scratch build a frame number for the manufacturer was but it was a Dodge truck kit that had a solid everything molded in on the chassis what was warped like that and I ended up trying fire didn't work that fleetline was a good-looking specimen
Fire is a good idea or maybe fireworks lol. thank you for the compliment on the car. It was nice and was pretty proud of how it was coming out. I am going to start up on a buddy build next then maybe back to another car.
I'll have to read the comments here but you might switch question out there anybody else build that was their framework I know guys that built the Dodge truck that I built and there's was fine mine was warped
Not a failure if anyone learned anything from it and I know I did! But some kits are really a let down. I loved the box art of the jolly Green giant drag car, but the fit, the flash, the molded in stuff has taken my excitement away. It's sitting on my bench while I decide if I want to finish it or start something new
Thank you and definitely learned a lot from it. And, I will learn more when I sink it in a resin lake :)
It's not a failure if you learned a new technique or a new resource. That being said, crappy kits really are a bummer. My '53 AMT Corvette is testing my patience, which in my case is a short candle😖
Definitely learned a few new things. It is a bummer but we pick up and move on and build something good next hopefully lol
I’ve been there…in fact I’m there right now with a Aeroplast 1/35 Volkswagen Garbus police car that is a complete dog of a kit. I’ve been reluctant to quit, because it’s just not in my nature, but I’m just not enjoying it at all. After watching your vid, I think I’m gonna let it go…
Sucks that you are having the same problem. But, at some point we can be putting our time into something better :)
@@HobbyLinkInternational definitely. It’s a lesson I really need to learn.
Sorry it gave you so much trouble Kenny
Thank you :) A good learning experience and will help me on other builds.
Heat gun the frame to fix it.
My luck I will melt it. But, I do have ideas it is not going in the trash :)
The AMT Star Trek Romulan Warbird Battle Cruiser was total junk fit issue after fit issue I put it in the round bin to get it out of my life. the good news there a 3D model on gambody to replace this. notice the live stream went down again internet issue go down again
Audio issues will be on at 7 pm
Hi, do you still have the engine and parts from this kit? If so how much? I'm interested. Thanks
Sorry just saw this email me at hobbylinkinternational@gmail.com please :)
Heck it looks good as is… put it in a field with tall grass and call it good
Thanks Kevin. I was thinking of something like that.
At least give it a decent burial Kenny 😢
This one is sticking around. You never know.
poor baby
you give the best support lol
🛵 I guess model kits are the most unregulated, uncontrolled, unguaranteed products you can sell. Doesn't have to have all the parts, they don't have to fit together, the box art can show things like whitewalls that aren't in there. No Better Model Business Bureau to stop 'em from putting a frog in the box with a picture of a prince.
