This is so beautifully and sweetly delivered. Thank you for your honesty! It actually helped me decide that Brave Writer IS what I want in our homeschool

This is so helpful for me. My oldest is also autistic and really struggles with motivation to write anything. He's capable, but he just thinks it's boring. But he also needs that structure. So it's good to know IEW is good for providing that structure! My son might really benefit from that too. I was considering Brave Writer, but I can see how it might not be the best fit for my son as well. Thanks!

Glad you found so much encouragement from her, and that you've grown in your confidence as a homeschool teacher through the years! I think it shows how your confidence has grown, that you've been able to "break up" with a resource that you love so much when you realize that it isn't what your child needs to grow in their skills--there are many kids who find peace and confidence from a more structured writing curriculum.

Thank you so much, friend! I enjoy watching your confidence grow as well. You teach me more than you know!

Really appreciate your thoughts on this topic. I'm struggling with picking a writing curriculum for my ASD son too. I absolutely LOVE Julie too! We tried Darts this year and enjoyed the books, but didn't really get into the meat of the Dart...like you said, it is a bit abstract and he didn't connect well to the concepts being taught. I did do one of the online, coached classes where I was taught the Writer's Jungle (now Growing Brave Writers). It went so well! He enjoyed the freedom of the free writing process. So I do think I'll continue using the BW Friday Freewrite idea, but will look into IEW for a more step-by-step process.

I have learned so much from Julie Bogart. It’s great that you have found what works for your son.

She’s such an amazing blessing to us homeschooling mamas! 💜

I know this video is a year old but I’m so glad I found it. I am searching for a writing curriculum that is a good fit for my 13 year old daughter. She has dyslexia and dysgraphia. This is our 4th year homeschooling and I can’t find that “amazing fit” for our family. We used Writeshop for 2 years. It was okay for the time we used it I guess. We are now using IEW structure and style. I love the structure. Her writing has improved so much but she hates it. She hates the banned words and the checklists but I think it has pushed her to improve her writing and makes it more interesting to read. So I’m on a hunt for something different. I’m also on a hunt for a reading curriculum. What I’m looking for may not exist.😅 I’m looking for novels to read and I would like a guide to discuss the book. Is this sort of what Brave writer is or can I use it that way and it could be our reading and writing curricula? I need to watch a couple more videos to see exactly how Brave writer works. Thanks so much for this video.😊

I would look into Phonics in Motion :)
