This Bed Went Viral Online, So I Tried It Out

I had no issues putting it back at the end though, it was always easy. I ended up building a murphy bed from a kit and lumber/plywood and put a good mattress, sure it's more expensive, but as it was never leaving the home the easy carrying wasn't that much of a benefit for us.

    • @horsinacz
      @horsinacz Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yeah, just a regular self-inflating mattress + separate folding bed frame is so much better combo.
      Although from my previous experience I would recommend one of those tall (around 40cm) self-inflating mattresses, since they don't need to be put on any bedframe. I've had one of those metal folding bed frames and after like 2 uses it started to creak every time you did even a slightest of movements so I quickly got rid of it

  • @ethelryan257
    @ethelryan257 Před 4 měsíci +7

    Every so often, we get a glimpse of just how tall you really are. It should not take someone of your impressive size to repack a bed which is supposed to be pretty much self-storing.
    This is one of those really great ideas which, properly executed, could have been great. Instead, they froze their mattress technology back in the 1970s.
    If they updated to the current air mattress configurations and fixed the minor frame/storage issues, I think this could be a winner.
    Really appreciate your honest reviews. I had considered getting one, now? Nope.

    In my experience, most air mattresses will deflate somewhat overnight the first couple times they're used, due to the plastic stretching out from its factory shape. To me the big problem with this type of bed is that it would be harder to detect and patch a real leak if one were to develop because you can't flip the mattress around easily. It's a shame too because it would be a great solution for guests who have difficulty getting up off an air mattress on the floor.

I don't have the ones with a built-in pump. I use a cheap comforter under the fitted sheet for comfort and to keep from feeling the plastic.

    My Aerobed mattress has the same divets and bumps and they are not comfortable. It probably has something to do with how air matresses take the weight. I used the aerobed with a mattress topper, when I visited my Dad. What I hated most was getting up off the floor even though it was one of the taller mattresses. Having a bed frame would definitely make it easier to get in and out of bed. I think a mattress topper is always necessary with these type of air mattresses.

    I wonder if something like this could be reconfigured to use a foam mattress. Those things are mostly air anyways (as anybody who has ever unpacked one from a tiny box to see it "inflate" afterwords can tell you). It would probably be a bit more expensive since the legs would be some sort of compressing robotic mechanism or something like that, but it could be pretty comfy in theory.

  • @wallypalmer4704

    We had a similar air bed years ago. It did not expand on its own like this one. You had to open up the frame (very much like one of those folding lawn chairs). On top of the frame there was a zippered compartment that you would slide the mattress into once inflated. It was a relatively comfortable bed, but the setup and takedown was a bit tedious, and it was very difficult to get everything back into the bag.

    I'm betting a narrower bed like a "regular" or "twin" would have less bowing effect. The problem is that the mattress is supported cross-wise by flexible, cloth straps. If you could adjust them a little bit tighter it might alleviate some of the bow. That might help to pull the legs in place, also. However, no matter how tight you can get them, physics is physics and the straps will sag with weight. The greater the distance they span, queen or king size, the more they will sag.

    The whole point of the inflatable was to turn a room that was used for something else into a temporary bedroom so, yes, the mattress topper as to the cost, but all in all, it's way better than a futon, I feel. And way better than an inflatable on the floor.

I was moving into a new apartment so was able to use the shelves to my bookshelves to flatten it each time but it took three days to do it nicely. Something that deflated and had it's own storage is appealing.. right now mine is sitting over under my desk while I figure out where and how to store it.

    Looking at it inflating it does look like a good product or at least idea. I have an inflatable double size mattress that sits like 3-4 feet up after inflating. My main issue is that it always seems to lose some air and a better pressure system might fix a lot of issues. but adding a mattress pad seems like a great hack to make these better.

    Nice always been curious about that mattress. There's an suv specific air mattress that could be fun to review.

    You know when a spider dies and dries out so the legs curl up around it? It looks like that before it inflates.

    Id still go with an air bed that folds the size of a handbag. It seems like the size of that thing is going to cost me extra on my airfare tickets.

    Thank you for reviewing this item. I'm a huge camping fan. But as my age progresses, sleeping on the ground has been deterring me from going camping the last couple of years. When I saw this a few months back I was going to get it but wanted to wait to see how the reviews were. The putting away seems too much for me to warrant to purchase it. Now I am on the hunt for an alternative.

    It is a great product, I have purchased two over the last 10 years. Place a base on the mattress, that is a blanket and a mattress topper then a sheet. Adjust the firmness and it sleeps very well.

    I've yet to find a truly comfortable air mattress that didn't have to mitigate itself by adding a plethora of extras. I have two high-quality papasan cushions that I kept after their rattan chairs fell apart; stacked, they make a comfy bed for company.

    definitely not a knock on you James, 100% the product, but if you have to go out and buy a $70 mattress topper to make sleeping on it tolerable... I'd just buy the topper to use on the floor, and forget the $360 TikTok bed! lmao love the unbiased video with your always honest opinion!

    I brought this mattress when I moved, it worked for a while then started to pop at the seams creating air bubbles in the middle of the mattress. It was under warranty so I got another 1 and the exact same thing happened

    Well that’s sad. I had such high expectations from the moment I saw how it was packaged. The manner by which it was inflated and unfolded into a bed was a bit like magic. By the end of the day, this bed, with its sinking sides, being able to feel all of the mattress divets, and the feet of the frame not all sitting evenly on the floor, at once, took it from a promising 9, to a 4-5 for me. This was a pricey venture.

    Did you consider flipping the air mattress so the curve went the other way? If that is possible of course. I'm guessing it must be attached to the frame somewhere so that the frame self-aligns into it's predetermined geometry.

    • @TamarLitvot

    I bought one years ago for my first apartment. I liked it but ended up sending it to my friend across the country when they had a bedbug infestation. The only thing i didn't like is that it would draw out body heat faster than i could produce it so i had some fuzzy blankets over the sheets to prevent that

    Interesting that you still have the purple mattress. We went down a rabbit hole of purchasing and returning 5 we didn't like last year... The expensive purple being one of them, it was like a rock. Ended up with a tempur-pedic.

    I've had one of these for more than 10 years. Mine came from Frontgate, and I suspect ones on Amazon aren't as good quality. I love mine. Still comfy, still fully functional, zipper on case still works. 10 out of 10. One thing people who aren't used to it do that makes it not as comfy is they don't inflate it enough. I have never had any issue with stability. It's not uneven in the least. I use a nice mattress pad (the kind you can launder, not a topper.)
    This is the bed I set up for my elderly mom who has had 2 hips and a knee replaced and has difficulty getting in and out of bed.
    I also have several air mattresses and a collapsible frame, and those are 10x more difficult to set up and take down, they aren't as compact, and they eventually poke a hole in every air mattress.
