  • This past weekend I took on the Cayuga Trail 50k! This race was one of my most challenging ultras to date! With all the various terrains, climbs and creek crossing; having the right shoe is essential.
The big question I keep getting is " Did I pick the right shoe". Watch to the end while I break down the pros and cons of the Rift.
Thanks for watching! Leave a comment to let me how you liked todays video!

Great interview. Coming from Ireland where it rains all the time, Saucony always lets you down on the wet stuff, to the point that after owning the Xodus Ultra, Peregrine 13 ST and the Endorphin Edge, I've gone back to Hoka (Tecton X 2) again purely for the Vibram grip. Saucony trail shoes are superb except for the awful grip in the wet. I would love to try these shoes but the use cases I have are too few and far between over here.

Great stuff thank you. So nice to see a review related to this classic east coast race. I often feel every company engineers trail shoes for the much less technical west coast. How does the forefoot width of this shoe compare to the average Saucony? I saw one review that thought the Endorphin Edge was wider up front and that this caused some rubbing in the inside of the big toe. I gravitate toward wide shoes up front. And how was the lockdown and stability on the off camber and steep? Better than that GS:TAM behind your left shoulder due to lower stack, or maybe not given how good the BOA system is? Thanks, and congrats on that time for that course! (I know it well, that is fast)

I would say the width in the forefoot is widish. If you have super wide feet you might want to walk away. But if your looking for a decent width I think this shoe has you covered. I have a widish foot and find some brands to narrow for me to run in. Don’t let the booty upper fool you, it’s definitely more accommodating then you’d expect
I found the lock down to be great. I tied them at the starting line and never had to tie again. That’s after a lot of climbs and water crossings.
I felt very stable in the rift, I don’t have the greatest ankles and I was good in all my runs.

Thank you for the review! Great insight. I have a kinda wild race (Escarpment Run). I ran a 50k in April in the Endorphin Edge. If you've ran in those, any thoughts on a comparison? Either way, congrats on the race and you've got yourself a new subscriber!

Thanks!! So I find the rift to be more stable, that was my biggest issue with the edge. In my area the terrain can be pretty technical and when I tried the edge briefly my ankles could feel the instability. I think a race with a ton of fire roads or slightly technical trails the edge is fine. Thanks again for subscribing to the channel!
