Considering the Emira is between 1/5th and 1/8th the cost of the rivals in secondary market, yet places in the top 3 for looks, sound, and steering feel/engagement is a huge win in my books. I'd also bet the Emira is probably the most fun of the group to drive at non-insane road speeds too

@@pistonburner6448 I understand China better than most, as I own a business in Singapore, with clients in China and we have operations in Asia, the US and Europe. I'm disappointed for the UK-based engineering and manufacturing teams at Lotus, in that their product still needs some ironing out. But there's huge potential for them with the Emira. The new owners have certainly put more investment into Hethel than the previous mob from Malaysia. China is not the perfect place, absolutely not, however from their perspective, they've had years of exploitation from western countries using them for sweat shop, low cost manufacturing. If you don't want to be associated with China, good luck purchasing any product, not just cars! The west is rightly putting in place measures to limit Chinese investment; the ONS shows Chinese $ into the UK has dramatically declined since 2017 (see a great article in the latest Economist). This needs to continue, but whilst it does, the UK and western countries need to sort themselves out so they can stand on their own two feet and grow organically without reliance from 'others'

Comparing cars 3-4 times the price of the Lotus is just crazy, and not to use the Sports suspensioned Emira in this company is silly. We are also talking about a pre production car . Even comparing it to a GT4RS costing at least 40% more , come on guys .
So the Maserati broke down , so it isn’t really in the test . You show us list prices before options as well, so the price difference when taking in the options is probably far higher. Listening to the comments on the GT4RS it sounds like it would be unbearable
on normal roads and not the super smooth tarmac you tested on, as would be the noise after an hours driving. If you want to just compare race car specials thats a different test for me , and quite frankly there is no way, nor reason, that the Emira can compete with cars costing 3-4 times as much …

A good review, yet where do you draw the line between what is a sports car and a super car?
It would be extremely embarrassing for McLaren if their 330k car wasn’t the best?
Clearly, the real “sports car” winner is the GT4RS. At 110k, it will be the car that goes straight to the “classics” hall of fame. Has there been a single review of the LT where its reported as a “once in a generation” or “only once in ten years…” type comments?
Of course not. And while the McLaren has its day in the sun, its praise will quickly fade into obscurity, while the GT$RS becomes legendary.
If you want to compare apples, may I suggest the 992 911 GT3RS :)

People say that every porsche goes to the "classics hall" of fame. Before the GT4RS there was the GT4, both using bastardized 911 engines. For a car to be truly classic it cant be a parts bin car. No offense, Porsche make some absolute bangers, but is the GT4RS better than a GT3? Or a GT3RS? Is the 991.2 really better than the 991.1? Was the normal porsches steering 10 years ago better than the electric steering now?
The Only truly game changing car porsche has made in the last 10 years is the 918.

"Road trip to determine which car is best". I'm not sure I fully understood the criterial for that statement. Both the 765 and GT4RS are race cars masquerading as street vehicles. On UK roads both would be the wrong tool for the job in a daily driver environment. The MC20 and Lotus would shine in that environment but lose in big fashion at the track. The Ferrari might be the best to handle both street and track situations.

I agree with Ewan Singleton’s comment below. As further support: The ‘cheapest’ USED 2022 765LT on sale in the US goes for a mere $750K. Next ‘cheapest’: $860K. Even with the max dealer markup I’ve found (an astonishing $100K), with every performance option (Weissach package, ceramics, mag wheels), a new 2023 (not 2022) GT4RS costs less than 40% of the ‘cheapie’. It’s an instant classic, has one of the best normally aspirated engines ever built, and has received white-hot reviews by all major auto magazines and online sites. I am skeptical that the McLaren is better in terms of pure driving experience, but if it is it very well should be.
