I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video, I will tell you what happened on the seven-hundred-eighty-eighth day of the war.
    Day 788: Apr 21
Today, there are a lot of updates from the Bakhmut direction.
Here, the most intense clashes took place on the northern flank.
The intensity of Russian assaults has substantially increased in this area since Russians established control of the small forest east of Chasiv Yar two weeks ago.
As you know, Russians previously advanced for one kilometer across open fields to reach the forest and establish their presence there. While the assaults across open fields resulted in a high loss rate among assault units, once Russians took the forest, they placed themselves in a very convenient position. Positions in dense forests enabled Russians to conceal large force concentrations from Ukrainian drones, which would otherwise allow artillery fire correction and FPV drone strikes. For that reason, Russian forces decided to take time to regroup and prepare fresh troops to resume assault operations. They agreed that their next direction of assaults would be Bohdanivka, which Russians want to use as a staging ground to launch further assaults that could put Kanal district of Chasiv Yar in a semi-encirclement.
Many of these reinforcements never reached the front, as Ukrainians constantly observed vital supply roads and struck them. Ukrainian fighters from the Forty-Fifth Artillery Brigade targeted Russian reinforcements on the way to the forest. In one of the videos they shared, we could see a BMP driving across the field until it got immobilized by a mine set up by a drone. After that, over 20 Russian soldiers dismounted and tried to take cover at a nearby tree line. Unfortunately for the Russians, they became a target of Ukrainian cluster munitions and artillery fire that killed most of them, while landmines finished off the others.
To prevent Ukrainians from striking their forces in the open, Russians launched massive air strikes against Ukrainian positions in the town. Russian sources published footage of aerial bombings with Su-thiry fours that launched their glide bombs from afar at Ukrainian fire positions in the Kanal district. Additional footage by Ukrainian fighters shows Russian Su-twenty fives safely flying directly above Ukrainian positions in the town, providing close air support to Russian ground forces. Ukrainian fighters reported that Russians established total air superiority over Chasiv Yar and surrounding areas, while Russian jets also managed to fly as far as Kostyantinivka.
With Ukrainian fire positions in the high-rise buildings of the Kanal district suppressed, Russians launched a major assault on Ukrainian positions in Bohdanivka from the forest. As previously said, Russian frontal assaults on the village failed, but the successful Russian flank attacks put Ukrainians at risk of being placed in a pocket. Therefore, Ukrainians withdrew from their positions in the town.
Even though Russians are establishing a permanent presence in the village, the central Ukrainian fortifications are on heights to the north of the settlement, from which Ukrainians exercise fire control over the area and monitor the movement of Russian troops. Until Russians take these heights, they won't be able to establish complete control of the village, which is mainly in the grey zone. To deny Ukrainians fire control over the village, Russians would need to launch an attack from the northeast of the town along the hills, but instead, Russians chose another vector of assault.
Russians chose to fight through another forest to the southwest of Bohdanivka and north of the Kanal district. This way, Russians could reach the Siversky-Donets canal and cut off one of two bridges supplying the Kanal district while maintaining fire control over the main bridge. In preparation for these assaults, Russians deployed a small reconnaissance group in a suicide operation to test Ukrainian defenses, but this only resulted in the destruction of the Russian group at the bridge over the canal. However, the Russian commanders seemed to be satisfied with the results of this operation, so the Russians started accumulating forces for the next assault in Bohdanivka. Ukrainians understand this, and for that reason, they are targeting Russian forces concentrations within the village.
The second Russian vector of assault south of the Kanal microdistrict is through the forests northwest of Ivanivske. Ukrainian sources confirmed that Russians advanced along the forests and are close to reaching the Siverski-Donets canal...

Ukraine should be supplied with an airforce-worth of fighter aircraft, such as the F-16s and longer-range precision munitions, such as ATACMS (more of them, and the longest-range variants should be provided}), and the russian military facilities inside of russia should be considered legitimate targets. It is worth noting that support for military aid to Ukraine in America is over 80% and increasing. This is because Americans can see that not only is aiding Ukraine the ethical thing to do, it is the practical thing as well. America has spent only approximately 6% of our military budget so far t o help Ukraine. However, over half of the russian army has been destroyed. This is a tremendous bargain by any measure! In addition to this, when russia is defeated in this war, their barbaric ideology of imperialism will also be defeated, making Europe a more peaceful, stable place for many generations - as well as preventing a new arms race in the region. That is why billions spent today saves trillions tomorrow. The vast majority of Americans understand this. Americans also want to see Ukrainian military and civilian casualties minimized. This is why Americans are correct to support giving military aid to Ukraine.
Please write to your elected representatives to request this military aid. If you are a US citizen, please consider writing to President Biden and your other elected representatives, and demand Ukraine be given the above weapons - in war-winning quantities, and soon. The sooner we give Ukraine the weapons it needs to liberate all of its territory, the sooner this war will be over, and with fewer Ukrainian casualties. Letters can be submitted electronically via the Whitehouse website. One can also google for ones' elected representatives - many of which have similar websites. One may simply write and submit a letter electronically to make one's desire known.

It's disgraceful and I feel ashamed that Russia has air superiority even at low level with SU-25s.
The US is getting away from using similar aircraft because they're not supposed to be survivable in a war like this one. How is it possible that Ukraine doesn't have air defenses that could shoot down airplanes flying low and slow??? 😱

The US is out of Stingers and cannot make more. The missiles are so old the components have been out of production for more than a decade. We were supposed to design a replacement, but that got sidelined because the GWOT was so expensive. So regardless of the aid bill getting passed Ukraine will not get any more MANPADS from the USA. Try the Poles, I think they make a version of the old soviet SA-7 called the Piorun.

@@Aikibiker1 They do. One huge problem with NATO is that generally countries want to support their own military industries and economies with military spending. France buys Rafale jets. Sweden buys Gripens. The USA buys F35, etc.
If the goal of Ukraine's allies was simply to prevent Russia from colonizing or destroying Ukraine, NATO countries would simply buy and supply Ukraine with whatever weapons systems would be most effective.
In reality, the goals of NATO countries are more complex. Yes, they want to help Ukraine, but they want to optimize aid to maximize subsidies for their domestic military industries.
Mesko SA in Poland exports Piorun MANPADs to about 8 countries, including Ukraine. I am sure they would sell more to Norway or the USA if those countries wanted to place an order to buy some and then re-export them to Ukraine. The Polish government would not protest at all if Norway or Ukraine placed an order for Pioruns and asked to re-export them to Ukraine or just ship them directly to Ukraine.
Norway and the USA already buy Piorun MANPADs from Mesko. So do Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia (and a few others). The numbers are undisclosed, and maybe they're already supplying Ukraine, but if they are, it seems unimaginable to me that Su-35s could fly directly over Chasiv Yar and even further west without at least one getting downed. Something about this doesn't add up. I'm going to assume that Norway, the USA and Poland aren't giving Ukraine large numbers of Piorun, and the only reasons I could think of would be that either those countries feel that they're dangerously low themselves and are prioritizing their own stockpiles over Ukraine (lame) or they're not actually supplying Ukraine because they primarily want to send Ukraine weapons that benefit their own economies (also bad).
In any case, come on NATO. For $50 million, you could buy > 150 Piorun missiles for Ukraine. These are effective out to at least 5km.
