Russia captures Avdiivka in biggest loss for Ukraine since battle for Bakhmut

- Russia's Defense Ministry says they have captured the eastern city of Avdiivka, less than a day after Ukrainian troops withdrew, making it the largest victory for Russia since they took control of Bakhmut in May 2023.
President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russian troops should develop their success on the battlefield in Ukraine after the fall of Avdiivka where he said Ukrainian troops were forced to flee in chaos.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military said its troops are taking up new defensive positions in the east - and repelling Russian attempts to develop an offensive thrust.
The capture of Avdiivka pushes Ukrainian forces further from the Russian-held bastion city of Donetsk.

Funny thing is that we already know what happens in the next main battle.
Step 1) Ukraine says it’s a fundamental city, strategically important.
Step 2) They say they will defend it to the last Ukrainian.
Step 3) Russia encircles it and opens a new franchise of the meat grinder.
Step 4) When the meat grinder is working, Ukraine sends everything they have to be destroyed by it.
Step 5) When the situation is critical, Zelenskyy sends even more bodies to the meat grinder.
Step 6) When they lose the battle, they say they will retreat to preserve the lives of the soldiers.
Step 7) Ukraine says that the city is irrelevant and was never strategically important.
Step 8) New city, new battle, repeat steps 1-7.

Ukraine has lost Marinka, Mariupol, Soledar, some small towns, their counter offensive was stopped by the Russians, they have been losing the war for months now.

Let's think about this for a minute... Ukraine has a population of 33.2 million. In comparison, Canada has a population of 40.5 million, Italy 58.8 million, Spain 48.4 million, Germany 84.6 million and Poland at 38 million. With higher populations and wealth than Ukraine, would we realistically expect that any one of these countries could defeat Russia in a war? NO. So why would we expect Ukraine to defeat Russia? Why should we support and cheer Ukraine into a war that these other Western countries would never dare to do themselves?
Because weapons companies and politicians are making money and that's what matters

But wealth does have something to do with it. Like Russia, Ukraine was abandoned by the West in terms of their assistance to reconstruction after the USSR. Their infrastructure is definitely not ours as Ukraine's economy has been floundering as one of the poorest in Europe for over 30 years.
Moreover, that $100 billion in foreign aid has been to keep their government services and economy afloat. It did not improve their infrastructure, but it maintains it.

After 2 years Russia is halfway to Kyiv, Russia's army is bigger than it was 2 years ago and weapons manufacturing has grown, Ukraine's army is half of what it was 2 years ago, economy shattered, more dependent on charity, a realistic assessment should consider where will Russia be in 2 more years. Was a stupid move to sign the US-Ukraine pact in Nov 2021 to end Ukraine neutrality, change status quo and start this war.

ukraine fled chaotically because they realized they were encircled and thats why more than a thousand troops were "captured". russians are increasingly defeating the ukraine army...each retreat will lead to faster and more retreats. ukraine troops probably jumped at the chance to surrender in advika; now they can sit out the war safely. if word gets out on how to do this, ukraine will have more and more of its troops being so called captured.

We aren't still supporting them. Early January 2024 we sent the last of our aid packages. Also a battle loss does not mean the loss of the war. We (USA) won every battle in the Vietnam war but still lost.
