I'd like to thank you for posting this. New starter is in and I'm rolling. This is only for the automatics.
Great job and great camera work TIM!!!Appreciate you were very, veryf, helpful!!!
Thanks!
Hi, thanks for your video and I spent this Sunday to replace my starter. Your video not only saved me $300 but also help me learn the value of labor. It gave me the confidence that I can learn how to fix a car and I am going to continue to learn it.
Hi, and THANKS!! What a great way to spend a Sunday; and to top it off, it's like making $300 to learn. THANK YOU for letting us know that our video was able to help you achieve those things!
Just did this job on my lunch break at work because of your video, not kidding. 2000 Automatic GXE 3.0. Awesome and thank you.
That's great, glad we could help!
Great video, thanks for sharing! I followed the video to do the starter in my 2002 I35 this afternoon.
THANKS Jeffrey!!
Thank you so much for this video it was perfectly done and I was able to change my starter with about an hour's worth of work
That's great, thank you for your comment.
Thank you ever so much. I was able to complete this for my daughter and she now calls me her hero so you k ow you are mine!! THANKS AGAIN!!!!🎉🎊
That's GREAT William! Thee is nothing better than when your kids know they can count on you, Thanks for sharing that!
Thank you for the video. I knocked this out in less than 40 minutes. Interesting location for a starter, but glad it's where it is because I do not have jacks or a lift.
Glad our video helped you out.
Gr8 video Tim. I thought I had to jack the car to get at the starter motor. You saved me a lot of mucking around.
Thanks Reuben, I haven't heard that word (mucking) in a while, LOL!
This video gave me the confidence to do this job myself. I'm currently stuck tho my 17mm bolt isn't loosening 1 bit. I sprayed it with wd40 and hopefully in the morning it'll break
Thanks Timmy Great video very well done 👍🏻👋🏻
Thank you Mike, that comment is greatly appreciated!
AWESOME MY BROTHER, I THANK YOU, BIG TIME , THIS HELPED ME VERY MUCH... I LIKE ALL YOUR VIDEOS . YOU KNOW YOUR STUFF...
Thanks Joseph!
That's one crazy location for a starter. Luck ot was the fitting that broke and not the bolt head. Great video
If that bolt head would have broke, you might have seen a little crying in that video :)
Thanks for that comment
Very helpful. Thank you so much.
Thank you!
Incredible! Thank you so much
Glad you liked it!
I've got the intermittent click when starting also. I believe you can just change the solenoid on the starter as it's a separate part, although it looks like you have to remove the starter to replace the solenoid on the starter. Thanks for the video.
Thanks. Great video. I'm not looking forward to it but I'm about to give it a try on my car. With my luck it won't be as easy as you made that look.
Lol, good luck Greg. Let us know how it turned out.
Don't worry Greg, you got this! Let us know how it went.
Good job. Thank you
No problem, and THANKS JAY!
👍👍👍excellent! thank you
Nice video.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you sir!
You are welcome, and thank you!
are you self taught or went to school for this? i've been learning off your videos. specially the lincoln ls videos because i have a 04 LS. thanks for everything you put out man. you're a great teacher and explaining things very well and detailed.
Hey Kev, I did go to school for this, BUT, 95% of what I know, has been learned out here in the field. Thanks for the teacher comment, as I try to explain each video in detail so everyone can do it themselves, and save some money!
If the starter goes out on my Maxima, I'm definitely going to DIY with your excellent video. What's your experience been with auto parts store starters? I've heard bad things about them.
For a nissan you want to avoid Autozone. We get parts from Fisher and they carry Remy starters, those are pretty good. I've installed those on Nissans and had no problems.
If you look at time line 17:24 you will see a small vacuum hose north east of the starter. Where does it hook up to? The hose w/o the clamp on it. I didn't see you hook that one up.
GOD bless and thanks again.
That does not hook up to anything, it's the vent for the transmission.
I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima 3.5. There are 2 cables to the starter. One has a round hole and the other is horse shoe shape.
Which one goes where?
Awesome video. Thanks so much.
Thanks Neil. Can you email me a picture so I can see it. tim@astralautorepairs.com
I just checked and there is just one cable to the starter(battery cable).
Thank you very much for your reply and help.
That's great Neil, glad you were able to figure it out.
I got the long 17mm bolt out. However, I cannot find any angle to remove the shorter 14mm bolt. theres some clip in the way that holds some hose. just extremely hard to get. Its my second day
Me: I can do this.... I got this
Tim: 17mm....
ME: NOPE I will call 1st thing in the morning....
I just got the alternator, the exhaust fan, the o2 sensors replaced in less than 2 months... imagine having the car, sold to me as a working running car, and it goes out in less than 48 hours... this is my life... it has been in the shop more than I have driven it. :( Thank you for this video... I made sure I sent it to my son with a *HINT HINT* lol
LOL! What other kind of problems has it given you?
is this also the same steps for the 3.5 altima?
The labor times are different. There might be some similarities but it's not going to be the same.
No click, no crank and no start. 2002 Nissan Maxima 3.5. Could this be a starter issue? New battery and cables, all fuses and relays good plus new plugs and wires.
Awesome video. Thanks a lot.
Hey Neil, what you want to do is take a test light, place the clip end to any good ground, then take the pointed end and place it in the connector on the small wire at the starter. Have someone try to start it, and let me know if that test light lights up.
Do you mean the electrical connector that comes from the ignition switch?
Thanks for your reply.
No, down by at the starter.
I meant, the connector on the starter where the ignition switch hooks up to.
Yes, but that wire may not go straight to the ignition switch, it might go to a "neutral safety switch" first, so this test will see if that switch is good.
Your removal of the 2002 Nissan Maxima would it be the same removal process for a 2003 Nissan Maxima Auto V6?
If the engine size is the same and it's automatic transmission it would be the same.
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos quick question being that the automatic Maxima has different starter location can that engine still be swapped into a manual Maxima like can the starter be relocated
is the procedure the same if its manual transmission nissan maxima? Im getting same issue just clicks but no start at all not even a hint of turn over. New battery installed and cleaned terminals whatnot. Could the problem also be the alternator? Thanks Astral
Hey Rob, sorry but we are not sure if the procedure is the same.
The starter on the manual transmission maxima is in a different location than the automatic 2002-2003 Maxima. The manual transmission has starter located in front of engine under intake near battery area don't know why Nissan gave the stick shift a different starter location tho
p.s. get you a gopro camera with a head strap mount to record hands free. i know you're tired of trying to hassle with one hand everything and putting and taking it off the tripod
Heck yeah, I am! That is a good idea because there have been a few videos that I just could not record because of that.
Same method and labor for an 03 maxima ?
If the starters are the same, then most likely, yes.
I hope i don’t need to replace this...120k miles at the moment
I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima. I changed the starter and the starter relay. The car still clicks when I try to crank it.
Check the battery terminals, and all ground connections. By the way, where did you get the starter from?
I have a 2002 maxima se and it won't start. Drove fine yesterday all day. Came home to unload groceries into my home, got back into the car and it wouldn't start. Everything comes on but won't start. New throttle, alternator and starter relay. Nothing!!! Can someone please help!!!
where's the apprentice
