  • Thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any questions and apologies for the rolling flicket in the first shot.
    I missed it in the video, but I'd also recommend adding a fuse between the +12V source and the relay for additional safety.

      For anyone that buys Hella horns that don’t come with a relay, get the Bosch 4 pin relay from amazon or whatever the fuk.

    miata tip: avoid pushing your hood closed. They're made of soft aluminum and can bend and warp even from a little pressure. It's best to just give it a good enough drop that gravity completely latches it closed.

    Gotta love the maker mentality on full display. Got an understanding of the principles behind the horn, drew up the plan, and set things up, THEN realized there were instructions.

    If I’m not mistaken the hella horns work off 12v the same as factory, so you could have eliminated the relay and the extra harness you made if you just connected it directly to the factory wiring harness since it’s already fused and has a relay dedicated for it. & Yes you would have still had to cut and put on new terminal maybe even had to extend the wires but that’s only 2 connections vs the 4 + the extra relay in the circuit regardless it’s just for a future heads up. Still nice work 👍🏾

    Thanks! Just got done installing these in my 2002 LS. Liked your tip on using an OEM horn bracket for the additional horn unit, so managed to find a salvage one. Got tripped up by the relay diagram, so came back here for a sanity check. I was doing new headlight shells, so figured while the front bumper cover was off, why not tackle the horn upgrade? Can't wait to scare people with these!

    If only I saw this video last year.
    My two Hellas are quiet because I didn't want to mess up anything by running wires to the battery and fry something.
    Thanks!

    THanks for posting, i've got my new Hella horns, but a different style, Euro tuned, I think. But they do not come across as load on the video. Just a little beep, not much louder at all. I replaced the horns on my Alfa Romeo and on my Triumph Rocket, so normally the difference is quite a bit.
    But perhaps it did not come through. A shame I have to remove the front bumper cover!!!!!

  • @DesertFox401

    I’m thinking of getting these horns for my nb se, just had case of someone not even noticing me honking when they were backing out into me. I’m new to this stuff and see people are talking about fuses, where would you put it in this mod? Would you replace the 15amp fuse already in the fuse box for the OEM horn with a 20amp one, or put an inline fuse somewhere else in the circuit, like on the wire going to the 12v bolt or on the OEM horn wire?

    • @DesertFox401
      @DesertFox401 Před 2 lety

      Just continuation, but it seems like you’d need a fuse between the bolt and relay, would you also need one between relay and OEM tap? Sorry if this sounds stupid, I’d rather not cause any serious damage to other systems.

    • @halomakes
      @halomakes  Před 2 lety +1

      I put one inline between the fuse box and relay, as close to the fuse box as you can. You shouldn't need to add a fuse to the OEM tap as it's pulling very low current and already fused (OEM horn shares fuse with brake lights)

  • @timmurphy9834
    @timmurphy9834 Před rokem

    Is the relay necessary? Can you just splice the factory horn wire and go to the second horn since the use is intermittent. And they are already wired in parallel.

  • @edhaugh
    @edhaugh Před 3 lety +1

    It doesn't look like there is a fuse protecting the new horn.

    • @halomakes

      no I went back and added one right after filming the video because I realized I had forgotten

    • @DesertFox401
      @DesertFox401 Před 2 lety +2

      Where would you put the fuse? I’m guessing between 12v bolt and relay, but do you need one between relay and OEM relay (I’m guessing that’s where that OEM wire goes)? Sorry if that’s a stupid question lmao.

      @KojiWoji_ Před 9 měsíci

  • @TheRealThomasPaine1776
    @TheRealThomasPaine1776 Před 4 lety +1

    It seemed like you got a 2ed horn bracket, but you didn't say from where, I don't think!! And why couldn't both the horns not be put in like you did the 2ed one???

    • @halomakes
      @halomakes  Před 4 lety +1

      Link for the horn bracket is in the video description. You probably could put both horns in that way but wiring would be a little more difficult. I was going off of what I'd read online so I didn't have the power of retrospect on my side.

    2 questions
    1: what gauge wire should I use?
    2: where would said fuse be placed and how? Does it take the place of an existing fuse or is it an extra one placed in the fuse box?
    Also did you wire up the 300hz or 500hz horn first? Does it matter?

    • @halomakes
      @halomakes  Před 2 lety +1

      I think I used 16 gauge, that should be plenty.
      Use an inline fuse, put as close to the power source as you realistically can smile.amazon.com/dp/B081DHT8Y7/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_H12ZZQBKJVFMZYYEG1VT
      Doesn't matter which order, they are wired in parallel

    Hey man, I have one more question. I just wired my horns up and they aren’t working. I’m using the original horn wire that went from the factory relay and wired it into the new relay, the new relay is clicking but isn’t sending power to the horns, what could be causing this? Could it be going through the old relay that causes this?

    • @halomakes
