That's the way how to replace an old rusted toilet flange. DIY following these steps. - Jak na to + styl
Why is it stuck in there so well to need a demolition by chisel? Its just supposed to go in there by friction fit so it can be replaced in the future as nothing lasts forever. Since the union goes from a small 3"opening to a 4" pipe it does not leak
Did research on it and yes you are right , no need to glue it if you can secure it to the floor. thank you for your input.
My old broken PVC flange is also cemented in. I am going to have to saw/chisel it out as well. And no, I WON'T be glueing or cementing it down when I'm done. If the weight of the toilet (and passenger) is supposed to be enough to keep it in place and water-tight, then all I should do is slip the flange into the hole, add the ring (foam or wax), insert the bolts and set the toilet. Right?
Of course this assumes that the foundation you're setting the flange on is level. If not, because they were sloppy and poured concrete or foundation filler around the 4" pipe and never leveled it, then you get into what this video covers. Adding shims, pouring in quickcrete to create a level foundation for the flange, or worse - trying to backfill voids with filler WHILE trying to keep the flange level at the same time. Pain in the arse.
I would suggest that should the system back up, you could end up with something getting between the layers of PVC. I took a different approach and used a bead of flex seal rather than PVC welding cement. I can break that loose in the future, but will stop any grey water from contaminating my foundation should I have an unfortunate back up.

Great video!!! The concrete epoxy is a stroke of genius. I have a post-tension slab under tile & I loathe to puncture the concrete out of fear of hitting one of the cables holding the slab together. You demonstration was clear, concise, & to the point. EXCELLENT JOB!
Thanks for the video. I followed the directions step by step and it worked perfectly for me. This was my first time removing a flange
Thanks buddy just what I needed!
Thank you for your awesome videos- my daughter and I were able to buy what we needed to fix her toilet, flange was broken which made the toilet rock! Her toilet no longer moves at all!😊
HOT DOG! IT WORKED just like you said! I can't thank you enough. Without your professional help, I would have had to hire a plumber. This was a textbook case for anyone needing help during this particular problem. I am definitely subscribing to your channel!

Thanks boss!!! You really helped me 🙏🏽 God bless you
Great video. I just finished a complicated job after watching your video. It gave me confidence to tackle this job using my angle grinder. Thanks for saving me the call to repairman.
Well, your guidance worked. Not quite as smoothly as your video appeared, but I was successful and after replacing the flange, I was able to install a new high efficiency toilet with confidence. Thank you
Just watched a few vids because i got to replace 2 tomorrow. And this one was the best one. Well done.
Thank you! I learned a lot from this. It is better than several others I watched. Answered several questions that kept me awake last night.
Do NOT use PVC glue to attach flange to drain downpipe. Because you WILL need to replace it someday either because of flooring or age. Friction fit is all you need as gravity will do the rest, no need for the extra work down the road.
Are you a plumber? Cause no plumber I know or have ever worked with leave this unglued , code requires it to be glued to prevent sewer gas seepage as well as back up seep of waste water in case of drain line plug up. Your advice is Joe Homeowner sketchy
@@cthulawhathis
If ya don't glue it, how will the bolts keep it from rockin?
@@cthulawha you're fucking right about that!
@@cthulawha Lmao 😂😂😂
Ive done dozens of home remodels, no the toilet flange does not get glud in susan 😂 gravity does the job, wax seal, bolted down, caulk the seal, no landlord i know uses a plumber either 🤣🤣🤣🤣
ARE YOU A PLUMBER?!? Are you an English Major?...then ehy you on a forum 🤦
Are you a plumber is the words of someone who has no idea how to work on anything in the house, which is why your obviously here, not for tips and tricks, your lost trying to give advice on how it should be done 😂😂😂😂
Blah blah blah, maybe someone will like me 😒
Thanh k you so much for posting this video! It was a exactly what I’ve been looking for!
"The bolts don't hold it down,he weight of the toilet does"Nobody else said that in all the videos i saw and that was my question, thanks.
Darn good tips dude, the job was done nice and clean. Thanks a lot.
Very good tutorial and hints for cracked cement. What if the removal of the old flange breaks the pipe it goes into. I had plumbers have to solder new pipe to put the flange into. That can be dangerous as solder and water don’t mix. If you have a chance that would make a great part 2 to toilet flange. I am following 👍
Nice vid! Great detail on lots of hassles I'm running into. Now I know how to do it better next time. Thanks bud.
great how to with all the details - thanks a lot!
Great information. Had no idea that pvc would come apart that easily with a little sawing!
Thanks. Makes my job simpler tomorrow!
Thanks for the video - Just what I needed. Very much appreciates.
Nice job, you mentioned the caulk. I like a thin bead of clear silicone caulk around the base after you're sure the leak is repaired. One thing I've found that causes leaks in bathrooms with that type of tile is that the original floor was a thinner vinyl floor which was replaced with the thicker ceramic tile. When they pulled the toilet to tile the floor they should have replaced the already compressed wax ring. Because the new flooring is thicker, the toilet sits a little higher and there is a gap between the surface of the already compressed wax ring and the new height of toilet base. So its good to change the wax ring anytime you pull a toilet, they're cheap compared to the possible water damage of a leaky seal.
George Crabtree That’s right. Always replace the seal with another wax one or one of the rubber. $9 is a good spend to avoid a nasty leak.
That's the right way to do an instruction video. Thanks, exactly the help I needed.
Thank you for your tutorial - a great help on my first major toilet job! job
Great job brother! You made a great "how to" video without all the extra b.s. and editing wasting time. You made it easy to follow and you were constant with the camera on the entire job. Well done. I appreciate your knowledge and professionalism. Thank you.
Just what I needed. Thank you.
Thanks it worked out for me
Thanks for a great demo
Thanks...just removed my toliet to replace floor n mine was rusted out/broken. NOW I CAN FIX IT MYSELF!!! Many thanks again!!
Well sometimes you just need a professional. Or learn to do the full on repair yourself. Nothing in life is ever gonna be perfect. Part of any repair is running into unforeseen problems in the middle of fixing what was thought was the issue. That can be said with anything.
When you begin a repair of anykind. U can run the risk of getting in over your head. That’s part of the process an the risk you take.
Thanks for the video! Ive been putting this off for 2 long i felt like there was more to it
I've been looking for a video this thorough. Thanks for giving concise step by step instructions.
Really helpful, appreciate the time you took to show me
Excellent video, the same problem I had with my toilet. Thanks, it was exactly what I was looking for. Congratulations for the good short video, straight to the point. Greetings from Miami FL.
Very helpful. Thanks!
Best video I've seen on installing a flange and replacing the old one.
Thank you sir for posting this
Thanks, just what I was looking for
Nice with a few suggestions...1) Caulking around the perimeter is actually a good idea and you can leave the last 12 inches at the back open so if it leaks in future it will come out there. (Caulk after your test of course) This helps with toilet stabilization when big/heavy people plop down on the toilet. Keeps it from shifting...2nd, use the same kind of flange but with a stainless steel, not steel, ring. A bit stronger than the PVC and will not rust. Still, do not over tighten these either.
video helped a lot, thank you.
Awesome video! Just enough infor and to the point. Exactly how I like to learn. I'm going to be busy on your channel for a loong time. Thank you man!
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for the video I’m very nervous tried to do my own flange and scared I messed up gonna do this and pray it works you made it look easy
How did it come out?
Thanks for the video and not dragging it out for days
Thank you for your comment.
EXCELLENT VIDEO! I like that you did not skip steps. One of the best I've seen. I'm going to try it. Thank you so much.
Glad it was helpful!
I use a masonry drill bit to drill into the concrete flooring then secure with tapcon screws. Much better than adhesive
Thank you for sharing as I am doing my first flange repair.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I will be attempting this myself today, but I have a wood floor. I hope my project goes as well as yours :-)
Thanks for sharing this video and in how you showed all of the step by step in replacing the flange was great and again thanks for the great video
Glad you liked it. Thank you for comment.
Thank you! Great video!
This video has helped me a lot, thank you sir
Worth noting, put some rags or something down in the sewer pipe to prevent any pvc pipe from falling down into the drain accidentally...
How can you put something like a rag down the drain when you are cutting and chiseling the old toilet flange? It would be in the way. I understand putting it over when not working to prevent sewer gas.
@@phonedork put it down below work level then put your hand down and pull it out, i just did it yesterday.
@@scuffedvegeta2756 yea I did it! I hate toilet work!
@@phonedork good shit bro, mine was fucked... had to use a multi tool to chisel out the old rotted flange and i did what this guy did, put in plastic one and used epoxy. The concrete around the flange was fucked too, but epoxy filled it in good.
Very handy, well explained, and detail information. I das able to repair oír house toilet un a couple of hours. Thanks
Glad it helped

Thanks for the video. Just what I needed to see.
Thank you... This is what I have to do. One bolt broke and the other is rusted so bad I can't get it off. 👍
Thanks for the video, thats what I needed to see!

Thanks for this video buddy! nice work. Now off to the hardware store for a new flange 👍
Thank you dude.👏🏽
No problem 👍
Good Job thank you
This video was very helpful. It was basically having a professional plumber there with us.
Thank You! Excellent Video! Exact Information I Needed!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome work. 👊🏼🙏🏼
Thank you 🙌
Thanks for sharing!
I would have used some tap cons.
Thank you Sire! 🙏
Setting it in plaster holds it, or caulking the base..weight doesn't hold it when somebody is bending over to wipe
Just a tip that primer stains so i recomend having a rag or container to help prevent spills and stains
Exactly i seen that lol
Bueno, Muchas Gracias por el comentario. No doubt you understood perfectly.. Thanks for all the big effort, that such a nice video entailed .. Saludos desde Costa Rica..
Helpful, thanks!!
Maybe it works for others but not for us. When I attempted to lift the wobbling toilet with the twist on flange installed, it pulled the newly installed flange off the floor.
Also, without properly securing the flange to the concrete floor using screws, the pulling pressure will go to the pipe instead of the concrete floor.
Excellent, thanks for the tutorial now I can do it. 👍
I don't why, but I always thought the flange was holding up the pipe below! I will def replace that last one I did now.
Great job getting the old off. Primer & glue are very important to weld the pipes together. Jamaica Joe told me you must prime it well Tommy, and no burrs. If you pull i bur through the glue line you'll ruin the seal...
Joe was too much, he could prime & glue 30 fittings without leaving pouple anyplace but the joints..but he did make me take more serious the 2 stages of gluing..
Like that you glued that flange down, better than nothing, but if they change the follr or anything where you have to change it again..whooo baby you,re going to work.. Today they make screws thad come with the proper bit to screw cement without anchors.. I haven't had a chance to use them, i got sick when they started getting popular..
Brilliant on concrete epoxy
Thanks HELPFUL VIDEO!!
Best video I’ve watched so far on how to repair the flange. Thank you!
Perfect video...and I get to use a power tool!
Right on! thank you for your comment.
Thank you I was trying to figure out why the range wasn’t coming off after I unscrewed it.
You meant the toilet bolts?
For those jobs when you cant reach far enough w your 4x3 flange like that Oatey makes a 8" tall one i found on Amazon dam its handy for underground repairs like that or 2nd floor
removed that old flange like a BOSS
You make this look easy. I’m about to tackle this on a 100 year old house. I don’t think I’m gonna find pvc when I remove the toilet. 😂
For the 100 years old house, I would tear down the whole house.
😨
What did you end up doing ?
@@tenmeters2 I decided to let someone else deal with the mess.
@@howiewill what ended up being there? pvc or what?
Probably better to pre drill some holes and taps in there. Also even he used primer you still can remove pvc . A little harder but it works fine . Theirs drill bits that are made to cut out the old pvc as well
But why use the PVC cement if it's not needed?
@@cra2cra226 it is need lol thats all is needed. All that extra glue in the tube is not needed lol very unnecessary
