I love Alex’s character, but in the beginning of her relationship with Bill she was embarrassed of him which was unfair to Bill to say the least. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it was a bit ironic, considering that in her early teen years she faced the same ordeal- if I remember correctly she used to think certain (popular) people were shallow and judgmental, and resented them for seeing only part of her and making fun of her being smart. Yet having been through that she treated Bill the same, a little objectifying, I should say.
Honestly, I feel like Bill and Alex break up, would’ve been a good opportunity for Alex’s personal growth before going back to Bill and apologising for her mistakes, and then ending up together
What I love about Bill is he fulfills Alex’s lack of emotional empathy, social and awkward humor. He always compliments Alex’s genius and how she looks. Alex at first only like Bill physically but they were together for like 3 years and appreciates Bill more.

I think it was great storytelling on the part of the writers that Dylan and Haley ended up together because their relationship reflects Phil and Claire's. That's why I also like Bill and Alex. If only they'd found a girl like Claire and Alex for Luke and everybody would've been with the perfect partner.
While I don’t agree with Alex’s behaviour, I understand her never wanting to bring around people she is dating. Her family always makes her feel like no one can like her and find her attractive because she is a nerd. They constantly make comments, they start as jokes and get more insulting in the later seasons (the episode where she kept getting white roses and the family basically laughed in her face that someone could like her).
To be fair, she was always the kind of person who would tell them to their faces they were stupid, even when she was a child and especially with Hailey. I'm not saying it was fine on either part, but to me it was more of a defense mechanism from them because it was her who always started that kind of attack

Met quite a few firefighters in my life, brains is actually at the center of their job as the work with a ton of specialized gear, but because they have to go to the gym even more than many cops and soldiers it plays into the stereotype of being "meathead". Don't know about you but if I'm in a burning building I don't want some 90lb desk jockey going in after me if there's a well trained, hulking monster available.
