Police arrest army veteran for Facebook LGBT meme

- 00:00:00 Hampshire Police has scrapped an awareness course for people accused of 'hate' crimes. It comes after the force was criticised for arresting an army veteran who posted an LGBT meme on Facebook.
Donna Jones, Hampshire Police and Crime Commissioner, said: “I am aware of the video published on Twitter which shows the arrest of two men in Hampshire yesterday, one for malicious communications and one for obstruction of a police officer.
“I have taken this issue up with the Constabulary today and have been advised officers made the arrests following a complaint from a member of the public of an alleged hate crime.
“It follows a post on social media of Progress Pride flags in the shape of a Swastika.
“I am concerned about both the proportionality and necessity of the police’s response to this incident. When incidents on social media receive not one but two visits from police officers, but burglaries and non-domestic break-ins don’t always get a police response, something is wrong."

Many police no longer see themselves as servants of the people rather that the public are the enemy and they have free reign to persecute and bully whenever possible whenever they can get away with it. Probably a reflection of the character profile that is now being adopted for police recruitment most likely in my view intentionally to create the situation we now have and break the more trusting relationship and respect that once largely existed between the people and the police. One has to ask the question is this a major part of the plan to break down society?
A root & branch reform is required throughout the force. Only doing my job is not an excuse, and tbh those cops that idly stand by and let these abuses of power take place under their nose are equally complicit.

Despite the recent guidance from the College Of Policing to not get involved in social media spats, Hampshire Constabulary decided to ignore this and conduct a "raid" on a law abiding army veteran. The senior officer who ordered this action should be identified and held to account as to why the College Of Policing guidance was completely ignored; and was it really necessary (given the police are constantly carping on about being under resourced) to deploy seven police officers and three police vehicles to deal with this matter.
