I bought a completely ruined #audi #r8 from @MarkMcCann64 which he started to turn into his dream off road supercar. But after the arrival of his Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato the R8 project got left abandoned. The car needed the right person to reassemble, restore and resurrect it from its rallied and stripped condition which seemed like fate that it ended up in my hands.

Honestly because it was an early-one with manual gearbox i would keep it for few years sell it latter with even more value specially if would continue fixing, rear lights, side mirrors & cleaning underneath the car the manual versions are becoming more harder to find specially un-molested not modified or tuned alot.. it is really a decent R8 just needs more care..

Chris… important! A couple of comments and it might be worth revisiting the oil filter change… first, if you lift the filter up before you drain the oil the small amount of oil in the filter housing drains out and allows the oil filter to drain so makes less mess…. Bit more importantly, the oil filter has a small plastic nibble on the bottom of it, this is the drain blank that allows the oil to drain from the housing… you need to put the oil filter into the engine first making sure this nipple has been located and push down into the drain hole then put the cap on it hat order… if you do it like you have oil pressure takes ages to build as the filter drains every time you turn the engine off and you loose oil volume as the oil can bypass the oil through this drain instead of going thought the filter and engine.
You don’t need to replace the oil or filter, just remove the cap and refit the oil filter to the engine first and it will be ok 👍
It don't matter what anyone says - the R8 is still a super car - just look, listen, feel and then appreciate. You have done a super job with this mate. Would love to own something like this - but where would I park it. LOL

You should probably get an undercarriage cleaner for a pressure washer if you dont have a ramp to get car up to blast it.
When you had the front luggage area out , you didn't say the battery was in their hiding in the back that area , which is where it is
Great video. Inspires me get my own little project finished. My cars are never as extreme builds as this more of a light refurb. However, it’s still the same buzz of taking something that seems to be written off to a near as new car again.
I would clean very bit treat them with rust proof then undercoat and top coat use rattle can as they are underneath but look better when done. Also renew bushes and clean nuts use copper slip etc. give it a full service even change cambelt if it’s needed don’t skimp on it just do it for peace of mind

I've done the electrolysis trick before. I tried to zinc plate it afterward which kinda worked... As for the household cleaners you skipped one CLR! Ya know that stands for calcium lime and rust remover?
Don't do electrolysis method in your damn kitchen. It makes hydrogen gas. See Hindinburg. Duh.
Them doors almost look like rust coming from inside the cracks which would indicate iron is inside them making the most likely cast in moulds maybe? Cool video as usual, gets you questioning what’s actually happened previously with these small civilisations and their technology’s

Iv done the derusting test but with pepsi, coca-cola, of brand cola and the traditional coca-cola worked amazingly
And its working because in original recepy for Coca Cola is with citric acid together with bit of phosphoric acid - as they say it gives "bit of zing". But you can buy much cheaper household cleaners / bathroom cleaners with much bigger amount of phosphoric acid that will do wel as rust converter (it will remove and convert red iron oxides to black more stable iron oxides). ... doing it with cola clone or with alcalic soda is nonsense. Vinegar will work a bit .. but you need higher procentage vinegar and much longer time than with phosphoric acid. And also, heat will help thre process as well

Chris I watched Mark McCanns video on his car collection the other day, and he said you have not bought the car, but he hopes you do. Your video starts with "I've just bought" one of you is not being 100% here. Whats the correct position? Also good channel keep up the good work and content.

Why not just take the car completely apart then reassemble while fixing and cleaning the parts.
Less chance of loosing fasteners and forgetting how it goes together. Plus they needed to make sure they had everything they needed to get it done..
@@kylemcweeny878 that’s why you take pictures and keep hardware organized in ziplock bags or Tupperware. But it’s my OCD that would make me have to take it completely apart and fix everything to OEM plus lol
