Your literal skeleton changes during pregnancy. Your pelvic bones move further apart. You can't undo skeletal changes with "diet and exercise". Your body changes when you experience pregnancy and childbirth, and those changes cannot be undone. Whoever tells you that you should be able to snap back to the way you were before having a baby, should have their pelvis repositioned and then asked to fit into their old jeans. Absolutely! The changes in your pelvis also continue with each subsequent pregnancy. My neighbor had 4 kids and can pop her hip bones in and out of her pelvis at will, and it doesn’t even hurt. The ligaments are just so stretched out from multiple pregnancies that they are now really loose.

I was born intersex and raised AFAB. I never had a period ever, yet everyone assumed I did because "female". Pretty sure I didn't go through a full puberty until I started testosterone hormone therapy in my 30s.

Generally as humans we do fit two categories with a eide range of presentations. It only really got weird if someone asked for a spare tampon, as I never needed anything of that category.

I saw a video where some guys tried a period pain simulator and were doubling over on pain. Then they got one of the women on their crew to try it and she said it wasn’t even that bad and she regularly came into work with worse cramps
I have thyroidproblem, which causes my periods to be more painful. I am now "leveling out" with thyroidpills and so I have stopped vomiting and collapsing, but it used to be common for me and also for classmates.

I absolutely HATE the notion that leg hair is gross. The first time I shaved, my legs felt so weird under the covers and I hated it, so I didn’t want to shave. However, my older sisters and especially my mom would look at my hairy legs and say that it was gross and I needed to shave. Shaving is much more time consuming with very hairy legs, which was annoying, and every time I had to sleep uncomfortably because in my bud for days after. tldr: I really don’t like it when people say leg hair is gross.
My mom has called my leg hair gross, but has never said a word about her husband’s. It’s simply a societal double standard with no real logic behind it: leg hair is the same thing irregardless of the sex/gender of the person it’s on. It’s only called gross on women because society teaches us it is.

some underwear have pockets! but they're not for storing anything. It's a flap of fabric on the crotch called a "gusset". It helps with structural integrity, since it's the narrowest part of the underwear, breathability, and keeping discharge from leaking through underwear. I think more expensive underwear tend to have it. I get the cheap shit that comes in a 6-pack, so I rarely see it.

When I was little, I thought that it was so you could stuff cloth or toilet paper incase you had excess discharge ahah, but yeah, my understanding is that it's just an extra layer to keep discharge from going through. Still don't understand why one side is left open though. It definitely varies, like some have both ends closed which makes more sense to me.

My husband and I have our best conversations in the shower where we are naked and it is never sexual. ( he knows I have trauma around showers and over the 6 years we have worked together to feel comfortable together in the shower because I wanted to be able to do this. I can never put in to words how much I love my husband and how amazing he is to me.)

They seem to wilfully forget that apart from the reproductive aspect there's general physical maturity to consider. If menstruation starts years before the body is actually developed, that person isn't fit to bear a child. Never mind the mental development that also needs to take place. I read in 2007 it was likely due to higher testosterone levels. a) those with high testosterone are more likely to be athletic, b) those who are athletic through developmental years can develop even higher testosterone. The study was done on mostly white male British football athletes. And it found the same conclusions you listed above. Most of these men were younger than 35, but had the sperm motility of the average 60 year old man. But then some studies blew part of it out of the water showcasing that many African American male athletes have really high _estrogen_ levels and lower testosterone as compared to, say, the Chelsea team. There's also the tight underwear and pants/trousers that many modern men are wearing. Body temperature is a bad temperature for sperm. That's why male gonads dangle. AFAB sewist and fashion enjoyer here. The "pocket" in the underwear came about because it's nice to have an extra layer of fabric in the crotch of the underwear for absorbing sweat and small amounts of discharge. In mass market clothing, they often leave one seam unsewn, creating a "pocket" there. They do this because it's an economy of scale thing. When you're sewing one pair, not sewing one tiny seam doesn't really make a difference in how long it takes, but when you're sewing ten thousand pairs, those few seconds really add up. Basically they can do it faster and cheaper by leaving a seam unfinished.
I thought it was to make it easier to clean that bit since water can get in between the layers, but of course they really only do that for production efficiency
The whole "women generally don't have hair on their legs" thing probably stems from the fact that we're *so* conditioned to seeing smooth, shaved legs (and armpits) because female hair removal is a huge industry, at least in the west, that I think some people genuinely forget that body hair is *completely natural* regardless of sex. I asked my biology teacher about that one time in secondary school, out of curiousity and she told me your equipment is up and running but you need to grow several years older before you could actually use it. At age 10, the birth canal is too narrow to support giving birth and would end up, mostly likely killing the child and its mother which is why they tend to wait til the girl is older(ideally I'd say at least 18+ plus) to give the body time to grow bigger and space things out evenly inside. Just because your equipment is on, dosn't mean its ready to use yet.

Nor can we be completely certain what the full impact might be of growing up in an industrial or post-industrial society. Never mind dealing with pressures and concerns that would be entirely foreign to a hunter-gather or agrarian society. E.g. How does being subjected to over 12 years of formal education in a classroom setting where you spend 6-8+ hours having to sit still and listen affect your "brain and psychosocial development"? I'm not saying that the standards we currently have are necessarily wrong, but they may only be correct in the western world of recent history. I don't think we should be defining some absolute model of how humans develop and function based on less than 500 years of data and probably fewer than 100 years of modern medical science.

This is how little understanding their is around periods, I got fired from a job for having to go home early because my period cramps were so painful I couldn't move. This is not classed as unfair dismissal or discriminatory dismissal. When trying to explain the vital importance of older women to a society I often use orcas as an analogy. Orca pods are matriarchal, and female orcas can live up to 90 years so they are very good at remembering good feeding areas and teaching young whales to survive. Not all orcas gather in these pods but where they do, the presence of older females in the pod has been linked to lower mortality rates among the calves. I've always felt very strongly that the same is true for humans, not even just with old women but any old person being a potential passer-on of knowledge and a valuable assistant in childcare. I don't get why that's so hard for these knuckleheads to understand.
Jared Diamond talks about this in his Why Sex is Fun? Book that one tribe had a 90 year old woman who survived a previous natural disaster and knew what to do if another one happened. He surmised this is why you get menopause to ensure the survival of women into old age.

@thatonearoace what people are calling basic biology is really Intro to Biology, which is what is taught in high-school and the first year of college. Biology is so complicated and diverse that really the only people who ever study beyond the Intro phase are people getting their degree in one of the fields of biology.
i got my period at 11 years old. definitely not a full grown woman (especially now 🏳️⚧️), and definitely still a child. if someone says “getting your period for the first time means you’re now a woman”, it’s just factually wrong, considering the age range of puberty. (and if it’s a conservative cis man saying it? then it might just be a major red flag.)
I’m 55, I love young women. In the right way. After a life of misogynistic trauma my whole brain is different. I can’t put up with any of it anymore. I’ve always spoken out, had so much passion and anger. Now I have fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. I feel so much empathy for them. as a cis woman I have hairy arms and legs and don't shave them - much hairier than some cis guys I know. Plus the usual thin facial hair with the hair above my lip growing slightly thicker (I very occasionally shave it if I feel like doing so). It's insane how so many people think the strict beauty standards of fully waxed supermodels are the only correct way for a woman to look, and the idea of anything else is unnatural. Crazy.
As a peer woman who ditched most of shaving quite early on (I e.g. still shave armpits, just cause it's easier for me to get rid of smells that disturb my own nose and be quick to dry myself again afterwards): I am terribly sorry there are so many misogynistic AH out there. The underwear "pocket" they're referring to is the gusset lining. Many underwear makers don't sew one end shut and I genuinely have no idea if there's a reason other than efficiency and saved thread, but you're definitely not supposed to sandwich the pad in there and bleed through the lining onto the pad. That defeats the purpose of the pad.

He said the urachus usually closes after birth, but in very rare cases (about 3 in a million) that doesn't fully work. In that case it is possible that some drops of liquid CAN come out of the belly button. But that wouldn't be urin but a liquid that's made in the urachus. And IF it stays COMPLETELY open (which is even more rare!), theoretically urin COULD come out of it, but only a few drops, no real peeing. Also if it's completely open, it also would have to be operated.

Some women find out they developed larger breasts overall that don’t go back, some have a permanent bit of stomach, some have more noticeable hips, some develop diabetes from pregnancy even if they didn’t do anything that could contribute to the development of that, pregnancy is just a whole wild ass thing and so much happens that no one talks about. I’ve heard of women losing TEETH while pregnant it’s actually crazy. The human body is weird!!! We are not cookie cutter!!!
That's a big ask, but given that everyone whose ever been alive, dead or pregnant(twice in both senses!) has also gone through it I think we as a species can bear the brunt of that request.
@victoriaroberts2105 it was horrendous. It's so young to start. I started years before any of my friends. Then menopause kicked in early, too. I was diagnosed with endometriosis aged 14. I was so glad of my emergency hysterectomy aged 25 after my second son. No more suffering.
Fun fact, the milk glands in almost all mammals, including humans, are essentially very specialized sweat glands. The distinction developed over the course of millions of years of evolution, along with the development of the nipple. One of the only mammals that did not get this evolutionary trait is the platypus, the weird ancient creatures they are. Female platypi still sweat out the milk they feed their young. Nature is amazing.

About the anti-vacc dummy, in October 2018, I started my period, and it didn't stop until September 2020. That's 23 months of continuous bleeding, sometimes our uterus just goes fuck you and does random shit. I did obviously get it checked out by a gynaecologist. The issue is still not resolved, but I'm hoping to get a hysterectomy soon, I'm 36 now.
Mine did that too, not the same time frame but the same rebellion. I almost fainted several times and by the time it stopped, 6 months later I still couldn't donate blood cause I was still low on iron. I got that thing removed and have zero regrets. I got a comment on Facebook earlier that said I will never be a woman, and to stay away from children. It was a picture of me on a day when I hadn't shaved my face in a while, and it was very early on in my transition.
My grandmother once told me that I should dress “modest” because I should leave some up to the imagination. She also keeps bringing things up like how giving birth was one of her greatest joys and she wants me to be able to have the same experience. For the most part they may seem like harmless comments but I’m pretty sure the reason is because she’s trying to find ways to disapprove of my wonderful boyfriend who happens to be trans. She keeps misgendering him and won’t even let him in the house. I love my grandma but the least she could do is keep her mouth shut and her opinions to herself.
Well your grandma was likely raised at a particular time or in a particular way, so perhaps only certain joys were open to her, & she's afraid of you missing out. But you're not living her life & there are so many more choices & joys open to you. Plus maybe you will enjoy birth at some point, there's no reason you couldn't with your trans friend, do they realise this? Then again other people don't want children & don't find them a joy, they just don't talk about it as much because people shame you for not enjoying your children. But it's far better for you to work out if you want them first, rather than just having them because someone else liked it, if you don't realise you don't want them till after then you'll be stuck & not everyone learns to love their children.

Because after you have the baby there is a lot of empty space while your organs and muscles are going back to their original position and your uterus shrinks back to its normal size. If your period pain is debilitating, there is something medically wrong. Yes, periods hurt. But not that much! If you take painkillers and still can’t get up, seek out a gynaecologist ASAP, and don’t take “everything is normal” for an answer without some serious medical investigation first. Your period SHOULD NOT leave you bedridden!

When I was complaining to my doctor of the problems I've been having with my feet recently, one of the things he looked at was the growth of hair on my legs just above the ankle as an indicator of circulatory adequacy. If your legs stop growing hair without good reason, see your doctor.

45 y/o woman who missed her period for 4 months is probably starting pre-menopause. My mom is 52 and has been going through pre-menopause/menopause for the last 4-5 years. It's legitimately like a second puberty for ciswomen. She keeps thinking she has finally had her last period only for it to show up every two weeks after a 4 month break. If only doctors would do a better job of preparing ciswomen for what to expect when they hit the age threshold for menopause. Not to mention that menopause seems to be even more of a taboo subject than periods, so mothers and grandmothers never really talk about their experiences with their younger female family members.
I'm 53 and finally period free. But you are so right about not really knowing what to expect from menopause beforehand, even with my best efforts to get some information. Especially how many years it takes to be sure you're really done with it and don't need contraceptives anymore - I heard quite some stories of women thinking they can't get pregnant anymore and it happened anyway. Or things like mood swings, getting all teary for minor reasons, which never happened to me when I was younger.

After having a baby the belly band helps the muscles come back together and can help prevent a permanent abdominal muscle separation I’m honestly debating if I’m going to end up needing the surgery to fix it because it’s physically makes my core strength training to help with my hyper mobility harder and the physical theropist mentioned it would also help in preventing me from getting an umbilical hernia again.

I spent so many years forcing myself to push through the pain and continue functioning every month that my perception of and reaction to general pain has changed. Absolutely! The changes in your pelvis also continue with each subsequent pregnancy. My neighbor had 4 kids and can pop her hip bones in and out of her pelvis at will, and it doesn’t even hurt. The ligaments are just so stretched out from multiple pregnancies that they are now really loose.

I was born intersex and raised AFAB. I never had a period ever, yet everyone assumed I did because "female". Pretty sure I didn't go through a full puberty until I started testosterone hormone therapy in my 30s.

I have thyroidproblem, which causes my periods to be more painful. I am now "leveling out" with thyroidpills and so I have stopped vomiting and collapsing, but it used to be common for me and also for classmates.

I absolutely HATE the notion that leg hair is gross. The first time I shaved, my legs felt so weird under the covers and I hated it, so I didn’t want to shave. However, my older sisters and especially my mom would look at my hairy legs and say that it was gross and I needed to shave. Shaving is much more time consuming with very hairy legs, which was annoying, and every time I had to sleep uncomfortably because in my bud for days after.

I think more expensive underwear tend to have it. I get the cheap shit that comes in a 6-pack, so I rarely see it.

When I was little, I thought that it was so you could stuff cloth or toilet paper incase you had excess discharge ahah, but yeah, my understanding is that it's just an extra layer to keep discharge from going through. My husband and I have our best conversations in the shower where we are naked and it is never sexual. ( he knows I have trauma around showers and over the 6 years we have worked together to feel comfortable together in the shower because I wanted to be able to do this. I can never put in to words how much I love my husband and how amazing he is to me.)

They seem to wilfully forget that apart from the reproductive aspect there's general physical maturity to consider. If menstruation starts years before the body is actually developed, that person isn't fit to bear a child. Never mind the mental development that also needs to take place. Most of these men were younger than 35, but had the sperm motility of the average 60 year old man.
But then some studies blew part of it out of the water showcasing that many African American male athletes have really high _estrogen_ levels and lower testosterone as compared to, say, the Chelsea team. The "pocket" in the underwear came about because it's nice to have an extra layer of fabric in the crotch of the underwear for absorbing sweat and small amounts of discharge. In mass market clothing, they often leave one seam unsewn, creating a "pocket" there. They do this because it's an economy of scale thing. When you're sewing one pair, not sewing one tiny seam doesn't really make a difference in how long it takes, but when you're sewing ten thousand pairs, those few seconds really add up. Basically they can do it faster and cheaper by leaving a seam unfinished.

I asked my biology teacher about that one time in secondary school, out of curiousity and she told me your equipment is up and running but you need to grow several years older before you could actually use it. At age 10, the birth canal is too narrow to support giving birth and would end up, mostly likely killing the child and its mother which is why they tend to wait til the girl is older(ideally I'd say at least 18+ plus) to give the body time to grow bigger and space things out evenly inside. Just because your equipment is on, dosn't mean its ready to use yet.

When trying to explain the vital importance of older women to a society I often use orcas as an analogy. Orca pods are matriarchal, and female orcas can live up to 90 years so they are very good at remembering good feeding areas and teaching young whales to survive. Not all orcas gather in these pods but where they do, the presence of older females in the pod has been linked to lower mortality rates among the calves. I've always felt very strongly that the same is true for humans, not even just with old women but any old person being a potential passer-on of knowledge and a valuable assistant in childcare. I don't get why that's so hard for these knuckleheads to understand.
Jared Diamond talks about this in his Why Sex is Fun? Book that one tribe had a 90 year old woman who survived a previous natural disaster and knew what to do if another one happened. He surmised this is why you get menopause to ensure the survival of women into old age.

I’m 55, I love young women. In the right way. After a life of misogynistic trauma my whole brain is different. I can’t put up with any of it anymore. The underwear "pocket" they're referring to is the gusset lining. Many underwear makers don't sew one end shut and I genuinely have no idea if there's a reason other than efficiency and saved thread, but you're definitely not supposed to sandwich the pad in there and bleed through the lining onto the pad. That defeats the purpose of the pad.

He said the urachus usually closes after birth, but in very rare cases (about 3 in a million) that doesn't fully work. In that case it is possible that some drops of liquid CAN come out of the belly button. But that wouldn't be urin but a liquid that's made in the urachus. And IF it stays COMPLETELY open (which is even more rare!), theoretically urin COULD come out of it, but only a few drops, no real peeing. The distinction developed over the course of millions of years of evolution, along with the development of the nipple. One of the only mammals that did not get this evolutionary trait is the platypus, the weird ancient creatures they are. Female platypi still sweat out the milk they feed their young. About the anti-vacc dummy, in October 2018, I started my period, and it didn't stop until September 2020. That's 23 months of continuous bleeding, sometimes our uterus just goes fuck you and does random shit.
I did obviously get it checked out by a gynaecologist. The issue is still not resolved, but I'm hoping to get a hysterectomy soon, I'm 36 now.
Mine did that too, not the same time frame but the same rebellion. I almost fainted several times and by the time it stopped, 6 months later I still couldn't donate blood cause I was still low on iron.
I got that thing removed and have zero regrets. Well, one regret, I didn't get it done sooner. Good luck.

I got a comment on Facebook earlier that said I will never be a woman, and to stay away from children.
It was a picture of me on a day when I hadn't shaved my face in a while, and it was very early on in my transition.
My grandmother once told me that I should dress “modest” because I should leave some up to the imagination. She also keeps bringing things up like how giving birth was one of her greatest joys and she wants me to be able to have the same experience. For the most part they may seem like harmless comments but I’m pretty sure the reason is because she’s trying to find ways to disapprove of my wonderful boyfriend who happens to be trans. She keeps misgendering him and won’t even let him in the house. I love my grandma but the least she could do is keep her mouth shut and her opinions to herself.

Well your grandma was likely raised at a particular time or in a particular way, so perhaps only certain joys were open to her, & she's afraid of you missing out. But you're not living her life & there are so many more choices & joys open to you. Plus maybe you will enjoy birth at some point, there's no reason you couldn't with your trans friend, do they realise this? Then again other people don't want children & don't find them a joy, they just don't talk about it as much because people shame you for not enjoying your children. But it's far better for you to work out if you want them first, rather than just having them because someone else liked it, if you don't realise you don't want them till after then you'll be stuck & not everyone learns to love their children.
This is really sad and frustrating to have a person like her in your life since... unless they have really harmed you, you tend to love your family.
But also and I'm sorry if this sounds insensitive; I imagined "won't even let him in the house" like your bf would just be sitting out in the rain like a sad puppy in a cartoon 🤣
I would really struggle to love a grandmother who won't even let my partner into her home. She's a pernicious bigot who thinks that your only qualifiable claim to womanhood is giving birth 😢

Because after you have the baby there is a lot of empty space while your organs and muscles are going back to their original position and your uterus shrinks back to its normal size. It just makes it so it doesn't feel like your organs are sloshing around inside your body. It also helps prevent umbilical hernias in the muscles.

If your period pain is debilitating, there is something medically wrong. Yes, periods hurt. But not that much! If you take painkillers and still can’t get up, seek out a gynaecologist ASAP, and don’t take “everything is normal” for an answer without some serious medical investigation first. Your period SHOULD NOT leave you bedridden!
But some people’s do! You can go to the gynecologist, they can check every single thing, run all the tests, and find nothing wrong! Someone individuals genuinely just get the most evil periods, and doctors just prescribe them stronger pain killers. It’s weird and annoying but it’s true!

45 y/o woman who missed her period for 4 months is probably starting pre-menopause. My mom is 52 and has been going through pre-menopause/menopause for the last 4-5 years. It's legitimately like a second puberty for ciswomen. She keeps thinking she has finally had her last period only for it to show up every two weeks after a 4 month break. If only doctors would do a better job of preparing ciswomen for what to expect when they hit the age threshold for menopause. Not to mention that menopause seems to be even more of a taboo subject than periods, so mothers and grandmothers never really talk about their experiences with their younger female family members.
I'm 53 and finally period free. But you are so right about not really knowing what to expect from menopause beforehand, even with my best efforts to get some information. Especially how many years it takes to be sure you're really done with it and don't need contraceptives anymore - I heard quite some stories of women thinking they can't get pregnant anymore and it happened anyway. Or things like mood swings, getting all teary for minor reasons, which never happened to me when I was younger.

After having a baby the belly band helps the muscles come back together and can help prevent a permanent abdominal muscle separation I’m honestly debating if I’m going to end up needing the surgery to fix it because it’s physically makes my core strength training to help with my hyper mobility harder and the physical theropist mentioned it would also help in preventing me from getting an umbilical hernia again.

14:05 I have really bad period cramps. Otc painkillers make them just kind of barely manageable. I spent so many years forcing myself to push through the pain and continue functioning every month that my perception of and reaction to general pain has changed. Just sort of a stubborn "I CANNOT and WILL NOT let this thing stop me" kind of mindset. I'm much more likely to force myself to ignore something that hurts until it goes away, than I am to actually tell anyone about it or do anything about it.
