I'm surprised you didn't just use the raptor liner inside too. It would have possibly sealed the edges better and acted as a second layer of sound deadener.
And also it would have been way more durable.
Hell yeah you are exactly right !
This shoulda been the move 🤌🏽
It would have been pretty expensive in material, but it could have been worth it.
@@Reman1975 Channel should be renamed C is for Cheap. I get bro does everything on a B is for Budget - but sometimes bro just needs to do it right the first time. All good content though nothing of value has been lost lol
The first issue is adhesion you have to scuff the surface with 600g scotch brite before painting and you really need a primer sealer at least. No matter what a year from now everything you coated in white will be corroded. I’ve been in body shops for 14 years and fixed dozens of home gamer style cut corner jobs like this. Just like me you gotta learn the hard way sometimes.
Couldn’t you just spray an etching primer over the surface first?
Edit:not after this mess. But before you paint?
Confirmed my thought of "maybe ya shoulda laid some primer first"
@@joshuacstorlie an etch primer would help with adhesion yeah but not corrosion protection if you put a single stage paint on top of it moisture will still permeate the coatings. opening the pores of the metal by scuffing and applying a sealer which is a non permeable barrier, is the best way to stop corrosion. Second best way is by applying 3 coats of a cavity wax material.
@@mynamerichie if I was gonna do it his way I would have just Raptor lined the interior white first. Then done the exterior black.
@@JordanAhughes I would have hosed the inside down with POR-15 if I would have DIY’d it myself, lol
If paint can come out.
Then rain can come in.
You are one off from Haiku, but correct.
thats why modern cars use seam sealer on welds.
agreed seam seal job on the inside needs to happen.
I say inside and out @@TreBuilt
B is for half a$$
Oh boy. Used water based paint over raw metal. Than oil based rust reformer over spots of that. This is going to be such a nightmare, lol. At least the paint will be easy to remove later on.
Right? I love the builds these guys do, but they are pretty much repainting the rooms of the Titanic right now. Once they take this thing offroad with the box welded to the cabin, sitting on unstiffened framerails, the paint will be the least of their problems. Makes for good content though!
Rookie mistake wow
@@andrewodri5409because it will flex all over the place and separate welds?
@askmeaboutmattweiner I definitely expect it to majorly flex. I love b is for builds though, so no hate.
im more concerned that they build a literal oven on wheels, they even painted it black lmao@@andrewodri5409
you could have attempted to presure wash the outside to remove the paint. One thing thats good about that white paint leaking on the outside it shows you all the air gaps and leaks that weren't sealed.
This is a good lesson on the importance of ventilation while painting! Your lungs will also thank you when you are older. I think the white runs look hilarious. Paint them red for the ultimate murdered out look.
Yeah dihydrogen monoxide is very bad at your lungs in high concentrations.
It's not going to hurt there lungs they had respirators on.
@@jerrywilcox9890 you beat me to it lol
@@HVM_fi dihydrogen oxide is worse though.
@@st200ol Dihydrogen oxide is H2O...water! 😆

Ventilation Ventilation Ventilation is your best friend, condensation is a real nightmare on cold nights camping. Seek exert advice when coming too insulation and sound deadening, if you get it wrong it will be a nightmare.
This truck will be used one time.😊
This episode has all of the classic B is for Build elements that have made me a fan. You run into a challenge and share how you get through it. Thank you Chris for doing what you do.
1/4" plexi? Thats gonna be a royal pain to replace constantly.
100% should have been glass. No replacement for real glass in these cases.
I replaced all my camper windows with tinted plexi, 6-9 years ago. Still good.
Lexan.
It's UV resistant. Should last quite a while assuming it doesn't get scratched.
Did he weld in the frames on the back after installing the windows? I’m no expert but it looks like that will make them very difficult to replace?
So to summarize. You built a black metal box. Which will get CRAZY hot in the sun. Then you glued all windows shut. What kind of death trap is this?
Air conditioner considered?
Ya, black wasn't the best choice. Gonna be a torture chamber.
hey, speaking of insulation and condensation, I'm assuming you're planning on using this vehicle in a cold environment. It seems like there might be an issue with warm moist interior air making it through your interior paneling and insulation to the cold exterior metal where it will condensate and later mold/mildew I don't have an expert opinion, I just wanted to make sure you had that scenario in mind in your interior plan. :)
That water based paint usually takes weeks to fully cure and mineral spirits or similar can dissolve it, especially when its fresh. It might not touch the raptor liner. Spot test and see, may not need to re-raptor liner at all.
You need a set of lights in front of the solar panels. The lights above the panel are not visible as they are blocked by the solar panel.
good
Remember to add flood lights for your back and side door. Nothing worst then having to use a torch to see the Steps. Most camp/parking spots arnt well lit
The side door IS the steps, so in all that rainy/muddy Oregon weather, when you close it everything from your boots and the sky, comes inside and runs down the wall.
@@dlux703and that's why rust proofing has to be done right.
Chris is like the voice over / host for Oscar's channel.
LOL for sure.
remember, Chris got Cancer, so he cant really work like he used to. He's come a long way building his channel, it's okay if he has a team now.
Lol
Noticing one thing... Every time Chris says _"We."_ The video always cuts to *OSCAR* in the video doing all the work 😂😂
It's been like that for years 😂 this should be Oscar's channel
Notice how it's been all voice over video lately?? Chris be talking over the minions doing all the work. I have a supervisor that does the same thing. Someone has to do the paperwork!!😂 😂
The channel is a business, Chris is the business owner. He operates the channel, no different than a business owner operating a business without ever doing the manual labor
I'm glad someone else noticed😅
Yup every time. Been saying it for years. I'm team Oscar, if he started his own channel I'd unsub from bisforbuild
B is for Battling Paint Yet Again. Was Steel-It not an option here for the interior? Also just imagine if you went with red instead of white. Nobody would bother you out on the road because it would look like dried blood seeping from the cabin haha could name it "The Harvester".
Respectfully, this thing is definitely gonna harvest someone’s soul the first time it sees the highway💀
i like how you guys dont hide your mistakes with (youtube magic....) its not the end of the world you've just made more work for yourself however its a good learning experience. good luck boys
What have you planned for (passive) ventilation? Or is it just an air-tight container where you can ...art yourselves to oblivion during the night?
I don’t want to bring them down, but I predict that think is going to be like an oven in anything close to warm weather.
I hope I’m wrong, but I’m guessing it’s going to be known as the hot box
Acid etch primer first for steel?
Nope 😂
I don't advice you to glue the windows, they could work as ventilation and safety exits. Which could be a concern in such a tight space with electronics, batteries and insulation.
Some of the windows seem like they will tilt open
airflow is the most important part of curing water based paint.
I have an RV and highly suggest painting the roof white. Black will be a massive nightmare in the summer heat. It’s super difficult to cool the cabin down and maintain a livable temperature. Nice work!
Might actually be the silicone sealant you used to hold the windows in. This looks very familiar to what a large car manufacturer suffered when they replaced some windows in their paint booth…
But shit but hey ho. You live and learn!
Don’t let it get you down chap
B is for BOLLO(#S!!!! One thing I like about this channel is that it does not shy away from showing the mistakes. Respect.
Dont forget your reflectors for when the vehicle is off
Super glad that with CZcams etc you guys get something back for your pains. Thanks for be our learning curve
Upper lights on rear and sides connect to your running lights. No signaling. The more lights the better. You can see better and others can see you.
I hope Oscar is at least a 50% partner in the profits from this channel 😂 poor man has spent the at least the past 2 months doing super dirty and tedious work fixing nasty mistakes between this and the whole boat ordeal
Love the transparency! Fav channel on CZcams!
Can’t wait for this build to be finished
Painting it black has made it into a huge oven on wheels, black absorbs heat. That is why most campers and motorhomes have white roofs and are lighter in shades. The lighter the color the more the sun is deflected and thus less heat absorbed.
He’s an idiot, and doesn’t care. It’s all clickbait
Water base paint comes off really easy with just water for future reference
Live and learn, right? Great video, and I appreciate the lower music mix volume too. All the best, keep on building and we'll keep on watching.
Hear hear for the lower music levels!
Yo Chris - Light Reflector Stripes. Great work
IMO, orange side lights would be over the rear wheel well, at the top of the rear passenger door, then the side mirrors and then on the side of the front bumper. May be too many, but you'll be very visible, especially on those dark sections on the highway.
I love how this channel is pretty much "hey, let's see if we can do a thing while pretending there's nobody around to ask even the most basic questions."
Love when Chris says we an it’s Oscar doing the work.
Can´t you use a high pressure washer and wash the white paint off the outside. Should not affect the raptor liner but probably flake off the white paint.
Use a toothbrush on the raptor liner to clean the paint off it.
The raptor liner itself wasn't fully cured either. Curious if it will come off
Love love to see you interview Chris fix to get a breakdown of all the work that goes into one of his videos
I feel your pain. Having spent an entire day redoing what took me the whole previous day. 😊
I think the white paint drips make it looks so much cooler!
i say a long red led strip down the middle of the wall from front to back
the small strip
way to stay positive. my initial reaction was "omg this would be soul crushing."
You guys do great work. There are a couple of comments you should really heed. It is without question, if you do not want issues later, that proper sanding and proper cleaning of the bare metal is essential before laying down the primer coat. Secondly, you should use the primers made for metal covering as they are chemically developed so that they react to form a bond with the metal assuring a reliable barrier and gives you peace of mind there will be no rust issues since the entire area is hidden. But then again if your just going to sell it, good to I guess. Once again enjoy watching you building your pcs of art.
When you said you use the paint for the walls to paint metal, I was like that surely will not end well.
Same
Why didn't you use primer
Experience is the best teacher! There’s no success where there’s no failure!
Before interior panelling starts to go in, have you thought about a rear view camera system? Great work by the way👍🏻
That's not going to be an oven.
As far as I know, Water based paints are for concrete. You need a thiner based paint for any metal. Even so, you need to degrease the metal or clean with acetone.(alcohol might do)
And the best first coat is always rust converter.
When doing new things, expect surprises... lol. You guys either win or you learn. Can't wait to see the finished product in action.
Your investigation is spot on, even when I'm painting rooms I have windows open and then run a dehumidifier when drying.
You really need to consult with more experts and do more research before jumping into projects your not proficient in. You've made alot, alot of avoidable mistakes on every project. Very jank. Honestly starting to feel like one of those junkyard build a car in 6hrs type shows where they're good at welding and only have basic knowledge of everything else. Turns out a cobbled mess that has tons of unexpected issues that make it barely work. No offense, want you to succeed. I know it's fun to jump into things but you gotta hold yourself back and know your experience limits so the project comes out well.
I thought the biggest catastrophe was painting the truck to resemble a serial killer's portable office.
How does the painting make it look like a serial killer's office.you make zero sense 😂😂.
Definitely should do a comprehensive leak test before starting the interior walls.
I work at a metal fab shop and the exact same thing has happened to us multiple times. Water based paint is generally a no go on steel
I was thinking the same thing i dont have auto body experience but i know i paint all my metal with a oil based paint for rust prevention
I new and said it would be a disaster
Oh man! That sucks! Glad you were able to overcome it!
“Some things you just don’t know, until you know.” Have to find out the hard way occasionally. Sweet build, this is going to turn out awesome.
As a semi truck driver I know how important it is to have marker lights on the side that are linked to your turn signals. Because you are so long, if someone is beside you they won't see your front or rear signals if your trying to change lanes, so they may not let you merge. I would put them in the front bottom corner of the panel that is above your table slide outs. I would also put a set of roof lights on the front panel of the camper above the windows. They will be way more visible there than the angled ones at the very top that you installed.
I so feel you guys. You take the risks, we learn for free. Power on!!!!!
Hey Chris, it would be interesting to weigh the truck now to see how much the shell weights before interior fixings.
A good sanding . And not being cheap. You should have used more Raptor liner inside . That would be better at sound deadening The lesson here is don't be cheap !
Love you guys! Ignore the haters, keep pushing forward!!
Cool build guys!
Dab the raptorliner on with a sponge for a better effect.
B is for Bad Luck ! B is for Big Lessons ! would be fun to see on merch with what's learned :)
Oh my lord. Seeing this gave me that sickly feeling I get when things in my projects go wrong. So sorry for you guys!
Old school B is for Build paint problem, I’m getting nostalgic 😂 Thanks for sharing boys, what a bummer.
What a mess but incredible recovery! Got my ticket for Friday hope to meet ya. Should be a blast.
I would strongly recommend reflective tape somewhere on the back say you're going down the highway and your alternator dies
Love the build, that thing is going to be bad ass!! As for the side marker lights maybe integrate them near the tables so you can use the same wiring for those and for indirect ground lighting near the tables?
I would recommend going inside the camper and actually applying sealer to the cracks especially the ones that leaked the paint outside and I would do this before cleaning the paint off of the outside and definitely before you repaint the inside
Honestly, in terms of Markerlights on the top I would have used larger Truck Markerlights, possibly "classic" Bullet shaped ones on the Front and larger Oval shaped ones on the rear and for the sides. But then again I love going wild with Markerlights on larger Trucks, to the point it's almost too many, if there is such a thing.
Wow what a comeback fr. In aerospace we protect plexiglass used on the plane with a thin coat of wax. I like the idea of being seen from the front just for the sake of making sure people know how wide you are at night. Fun thought for the OEM roof lights: rewire them to an aux switch and replace the lights with some super bright pod lights or even the rectangular ones. It is meant for exploring so why not 😅
The white paint leaking out was a blessing.
For the side lights you could also just get side mirrors with LED lights. It’s way easier and would add another modern touch to the truck.
Loving the music choice
Good Afternoon from Vancouver BC
nobody gets it right the first time every time. Love this project and the wins n losses 😎 so good
Just a small suggestion brother. Add a long reflector in front of your solar panel to protect it from flying road debris from vehicles and birds…lol
B is for Oscar builds it, great work and fabricator Oscar.
1:1 Acetone and Rustoleum has never failed me. It's easy and cheap. Very forgiving.
This thing is turning out awesome
Man as much as I hate to see things like this happen to yall. I always enjoy watching you over come the problems.
I have a joke when things like this happen to me, I call it Projects with Sam. I firmly believe Murphy is a close cousin of mine. lol keep on keeping on brother.
Get the running board lights that add turn signals. Less holes in the body means there's less chance of leaks.
Go crazy with the light
A B is for Build Blunder!? Nooooo, never happen! 😂 That’s what makes this channel so good, we all make mistakes and it’s relatable 👍🏽
Try mild soap and water with a scrub sponge to get the rest of what you can’t pull off
Dude, you are GOING TO need a powered fan/Roof Vent.
I think you're right about the paint because I used the same type of paint on the bottom of my Ranger to stop it from rusting, and it dried just fine with an occasional drip.
Chris also before you do the interior walls you need to think about exterior lighting connected to the house battery to illumine the outside of the camper when parked or camping. It would be so much easier to do the wiring and installation now then after.
Hope you win the Freedom 500 Chris.
GL👍
Let this be a lesson metal needs to be primed before topcoating. Especially with water based paint primer is a must. You are correct about ventilation.
I agree with your assessment. I recommend using a floor dryer blower inside the truck cab and supplement it with high speed fans leaving the back doors open. For the exterior paint, stay away from the wire wheel. Use the less aggressive rubber erasing compound wheel for removing stickers
Some people cant understand that even with all the talent in the world, with out a vision on how to put that talent to good used, you got nothing, Oscar is great, but thanks to the opportunity he was given is that hes mastering all bis skills, and a graceful person dont bite the ha d that feed them. It's about the bigger picture, not just the accomplishments along the way.
Hey Chris. I do trailer safeties and repairs as part of my job. Your triple ID lights are part of your running light system, as they are just counted as clearance lights
