If only Feebay spent a tenth of the time working to come up with a better return policy on sports cards to protect sellers as they do to increase their revenue. I’ll help them out..no returns after 7 days! That way people can’t hold a card for 29 days and if it depreciates in value then fraudulently return the item.
That would seem like a very simple solution!?
@@4thepast Yes, but regardless eBay provides buyers with a 30 day MBG. I’ve had buyers after 28 days claim there was a scratch on the card (Graded card) when the card depreciated $600 in that time span. It’s a garbage policy when applied to the the volatility of today’s card market.
eBay is like a house with 1000 holes in the roof and they are focused on building a roller coaster in the back yard.
Underrated comment
Comment of the year eBay is like a baby crib with a guillotine and changing table
What im wondering is why hasn’t ebay made a new ebay app that’s purely about trading cards , memorabilia , price guides , and checklists with photos. Especially with a scanner.
Just got back into the hobby about 2 months ago, and think I’ve watched all your videos now lol. Thanks for all the help and awesome content like this!
Anything on possibly lowering the fees? 15% is really high!!!
It’s 11% i believe
I just don't like eBay bro.
The Ebay shipping program sucks! I have sent several cards using the program and the envelope is not tracked. Then the buyer states did not get card. You are then required to refund buyer. Do not use this program!!!
I agree...it sucks and the seller ends up be the loser with this shipping option..I have refunded more buyers with this
As a buyer I do not like it. It is so important to have that tracking information. You get what you pay for.
I’ve shipped out over 500 cards the last 3 months & haven’t had to refund a single buyer..Maybe pay attention to the feedback some of the buyers have
I’ve sold maybe 200 cards using the eBay cheap card shipping service and have had one issue, and it was likely just a lost in the mail type of thing. I wish more people would use it. Nobody is trying to pay $4 for shipping on a $10 card
Agreed this new shipping method was the best thing ebay has ever done for sellers. I've sold several hundred and it works great I've had 1 or 2 issues that's it
Are you guys just using the suggested rigid thin cardboard envelopes for this? I just started offering this but I haven’t really noticed an issue charging about $4 for bubble mailers even on cheaper cards
@@mrsloth_8820 make so much more money by shopping with the new method any plain white envelope works it tells you what the size requirements are. I've had very little issue with it and have saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars on shipping it's been a huge success for sellers
I’ve shipped 106 in the past 6 months all priority flat rate regardless of price $1-900. Unless eBay will send sellers special trading card envelopes I will continue with my current plan
eBay needs to look at this for shipping within/from Canada.
Talk about the new fees
What about scanning a PSA barcode and using an API integration that connects to PSA's database to pull titles and descriptions
Would require work on PSAs part as well?
@@OleLockAndKey sweet!
you guys should contant panini and topps and upper deck and make a deal where you can take a scan of every card before they are packed and shipped out seems like it would be beneficial for everyone and make all parties money in the long run.
Commenting for the algo
Love your program. Great interview with eBay, so very informative and interesting. Thank you!!
Love this... one of the biggest issues I would like to see resolved. Is auto charging on auctions, when you place a bid, it should be charged immediately.... so many buyers don’t pay, and in this timely market, you could have a big loss having to wait for an unpaid item case. Also, variation listing edits through the app would be a huge bonus!
I think this is all good news. But the description of ESE is not accurate. You can ship across country and still not get tracking. You also loose top rated seller status since the card was never scanned and I have appealed that and lost because I never got an accepted scan. you can't say ebay knows you tried to track it because unless you get an accepted scan its next to impossible to make top rated seller. I have been unable to get my defects reversed so still a leap forward but more work to do.
my biggest issue with ebay is 30 day money back guarantee in a market thats so volatile....you have to sell and pray the price doesnt drop too much in 30 days or a player doesnt get injured. cuz buyers can snap your card in half and say it arrived damaged WITH ABSOLUTELY NO PROOF for a full refund. you lose your card, shipping cost, and return shipping cost.
If they change it to 3-5 days (plenty of time to inspect a cards condition) ppl cant force returns 29 days later when a player gets injured or a cards price drops
The only problem with the eBay labels is that if you create a label and they don't scan it at the post office it doesn't look like you ever dropped it off.
He said that didn’t matter. As long as it goes thru a major hub it should be scanned eventually.
@@banesquire All my mail goes through Michigan first, and since Covid, their state is the absolute worst in anything they do, in particular their USPS. I’d be very cautious to use this type of shipping anymore
@@banesquire I've sent hundreds with standard envelope once they go through any major market they get scanned in. I haven't had any issues with them at all. It's literally been a life saver for sports sellers.
@@mynameisjerad standard envelope is amazing and they get scanned and updated
@@banesquire You are right about one thing, the tracking is funky and there's times when it shows you didn't even drop it off at the post office, but yet you 100% did. I hate that, but that's how it works. However, the big thing you are wrong about is the seller losing. You DON'T LOSE. If the card never makes it - gets lost or stolen or heaven forbid the buyer lies and said they never got it, then yes Ebay sides with the buyer and the buyer gets a refund. In that instance, the seller can make a claim on the Ebay site and they will be reimbursed (in most cases). It's a simple, painless process and insurance covers your ESE shipment. I've shipped over 700 ESE shipments and only 3 have been lost and I got reimbursed within 24 hrs all 3 times - right to my Paypal account. Go to the FAQ's for the Ebay Standard Envelope service on the Ebay site. You will eventually find the claim link there.
I noticed the blue circle wasn't full. So I would have to go and update some data fields. When you have to do that it makes this essentially the exact same as "Sell Similar" that we have now. In a lot of cases slower than "Sell Similar". Am I missing something?
Great point.
You can already do that by clicking on "sell one like this"
Haha I know. I feel like I’m watching a video from 2010. Does everyone not do sell similar item?!
@@OleLockAndKey Agree. I hate eBay with a passion. :)
11:51 This will be, in my opinion, the biggest win.
The ability to scan through stacks of cards to find those gems will undoubtedly be a bottle of Awesome Sauce PSA Gem Mint 10.
BTW, I hate that it defaults to auction. With the current market dip, I’m not selling anything in auction.
Yes exactly
I just don't like eBay at all man.
This is cool! Love seeing progress in this space
When I buy and it’s shipped standard envelope it always says out for delivery in ATL and I live 45 minutes north. It shows delivered but it’s to the local post office and not to me. I usually get it the next day. It’s weird.
Ive heard a customer tell me this also. I tried to get my local PO to can the esu tracking number and he looked at me like i was crazy.
I really love your videos. Very informative.
I ship a lot of my cards standard envelope & they are only scanning about 1/2 of them at this point. I haven’t had any issues with delivery. But it does help with you selling standards. I’ve reached top rated seller plus status because of the new shipping
Thanks for sharing. Now we depend on you and your helpers for help and information! Great job! Thank you!!!!
Jeff-can you comment on why we are seeing such a drop in prices all across the board in sports cards right now despite everyone saying popularity is at an all time high? What is causing this and will we see a rebound in prices especially if graded cards soon?
I have been hearing EBay changed their categorization of sports cards making it harder for people to find them and resulting in the dip of 25-50% across the board for everything
Crypto and Pokémon are down too. Natural dip. Hard to say why
@@gregchamberlin446 Interesting. I hadn't thought of this as a reason why the dip has happened. I think it's just the supply has caught up to the demand but who knows. IMO the industry will always be strong despite market volatility of prices.
Geoff shouldve asked *the* most important question... why does eBay screw the seller in all their cases??? smh.
The card scanning technology for Magic and Pokémon been around for years. It’s great! But I don’t see eBay doing it with sports cards because there are infinitely more variations of cards. Also, eBay is having problems auto filling current card information since the update so let’s get that fixed first. Baby steps. 🙄
First off, hit that 100k sub goal!!! Congrats guys.
For the visual recognition of cards, accuracy is key. For instance, can it tell between a 1996 Fleer Metal Iverson RC and and Precious Metal RC? Things like that - where the line becomes blurred - is where things can get confusing. Here's the encouraging part - visual recognition algorithms require a whole lot of data to learn from in order to become more accurate. Ebay has a TON of data, so I suspect that their algorithm will get better and smarter faster than usual. Could be quite promising.
I love the new listing update, but I really don't like how you can't list the condition of the card on the headline like "Brand New, Like New, Very Good, etc." I would really like if if they could change it back to what it was before.
What I need is something to be able to post thousands of cards a day, use to use Turbo lister, (that's dead) can't figure out File exchange. Can't find any software where I can work offline creating listings and upload them in bulk.
100% same with me
Kronocard
Thanks Jeff for another great informative video.
It would be cool to see that picture recognition feature work for looking up comps :)
Hopefully ebay will raise their fees. I love getting less using Ebay and PayPal
Lmao I hope your joking
xD
You dont even need paypal to sell on ebay anymore. Get with the times old man
You sound like a damm polotician
@@alexl6487 if only you could spell
I think what alot of ppl dont think or realize about ebay is it is also a good way to have on record what u have in ur inventory/collection along with what comes & goes for insurance purposes (i.g. Home burglary, home fire, flooded, tornado/typhoon) anything that would wipe out ur cards that is out of ur hands nor ur fault & u can @ least salvage some of ur investment or inventory, its a good public record.
I love ESE, game changer for the most sellers I would say. Finally a little security for all those times that they "never got it" refunds. I have been using it since it came out, over 400 transactions, mostly ESE and I have had 3 no deliveries (filed a claim) and 2 delivered but said they didn't get it. But as long as it says delivered it is on the buyer. I will say filing a claim is more complicated then it should be and notices on if it is received / processed could be a lot better.
Sounds like Geoff team needs to work with EBay directly and make it happen. Super Charge the card database and processing!
Intriguing thing is that eBay already has a ridiculous amount of data from the items that were already listed. All they have to do is utilize the data that people provide every single day. That algorithm should, theoretically, already be well on its way to being "supercharged".
Feebay
You know Geoff loves that idea🤑
@@Scotto6977 Honestly I suspected they already established a partnership 🤷♂️ I’m an IT engineer and from the outside looking in I would take Market Movers and directly adopt that and throw a crap load of cloud resources at it.
Jeff, would a "signed Kobe Bryant rookie card" hold it's value if it's graded a 6? If not, what % value would it decrease (estimate?)
Thanks for the videos!!
Great video. Should think of bringing on Panini next. Discuss redemption and lack of fulfilling them. Didn't realize until this weekend firm's suing them and over 200k unfulfilled requests.
Where is the setting to tell ebay to print to a certain sized envelop? Like a #10 or 4 x 6? Need a certain printer? Luck? The closest I got was envelop size but orientation wrong. I’m printing from shipping within eBay with chrome or safari. Thanks
Let’s ask eBay some serious questions like processing times on items sold now. 2 to 3 days to process a order then another two days to send to bank but there quick to send out a bill to PayPal for the eBay fees to the sellers even on the weekend ..lol there not speeding anything up
I was hoping it's a card scanner that evaluates the quality of the card; detecting creased, scratches, clarities, etc. Not only that, the scanner should pull up the infos of that particular card: quantity of prints there are, what edition it is, what's the rarity, etc. Unfortunately, the techs are there yet.
Can you make this option available for Guitar picks( shipping) also when you ship 1 card you cannot put it in an envelope without worrying about it getting dings so you have to put it in a top loader which makes it rigid. Will the post office still take it or will they send it back.
My local post office doesn’t scan the new shipping envelopes. I’ve used it 5 times and 2 of my cards took over 6 weeks to arrive, with no tracking information.
Pumped for this to go live for sports cards
What app or program do you use to keep your cards inventory and pricing updated
We need eBay to add in AI scanning of raw cards to suggest a possible grading scale....maybe work with PSA and use their AI system to give a generalized score on a raw card.
Maybe for each TCG or card set could have a template that you can buy that you place the card in so the AI has a better basis to work off of.
Fantastic interview. I have a lot of experience with the eBay Standard Envelope. It's been superb as it allows me to reduce shipping costs and thus sell cards for less overall to buyers. There was an issue at the beginning where the enveloped were marked "Delivered" when it was scanned within the same zip code as the recipient. The envelope had not been delivered to the actual address yet, just the zip code. The buyers would contact me confused and in some cases unhappy about this. I was able to talk them through the issue in each case, and the envelope showed up a ay or two later in each case. This happened more in the early days, so maybe they have identified a solution to this issue. Overall ESE is a fantastic option.
I basically ship most cards for free at this point. I get supplies on the cheap & that helps. I sell a lot of cards from 3-5 bucks over 500 of them the last 3 months
Off topic can I create multi variations in the eBay app? Been trying to figure it out but can’t seem to get it
Will this be the only way to list or will we still be able to do it on a lap top or desk top?
I MISS TURBO LISTER BRING IT BACK PRONTO
tnx for info man. 👍
The new tracking needs A LOT of improvement. I got orders from vendors who I have given feedback to because I got the pkg and yet ebay and the tracking is still showing as "shipped" and not as "delivered".
Are you confident in Ebay for International shipping of cards of all values? i vaguely remember 20 years ago inter being loaded with phony purchases that would never clear customs or never paid etc.
Another informative video - my first thought was facebook/ Instagram has the biggest image database of these rare cards because EVERYONE posts them -
what about Puerto Rico? Why is the special card envelope not available for Puerto Rico. :(
Wellll hello. Dad & I been looking into selling some of his collection & this would be awesome
I bought two 86 Fleer basketball rookies last summer - one Barkley and one Malone. Sent them to PSA to get graded (not to flip, but for my PC) and they both came back as 'fake'. What can I do as an eBay buyer except take it up the ass since it is obviously way outside of the 30 day window for returns?
Interesting content Geoff 👌, the development of this sounds complicating
Cool software but I can see myself still entering everything manually. Guess we'll see how it works when released.
I have a lot of questions to ask and that special deal that SCG gave on your show
The ebay Standard Envelope was an absolute game changer. The downside though for me (in addition to the tracking) is the USPS looses about 1 in 15. I have issued more refunds for lost and terribly late shipments than I did with First Class Mail. These result in complete losses for me. Also, some USPS offices do not honor the agreement and have added postage, held items and forced someone to pay extra. I recently had a Post Office charge more than $4 for the exact same ESE I use everyday for .91 The customer was mad at me claiming I knowingly shipped it with too little postage. I accepted the dispute, but assured him that I follow Ebay's guidelines successfully every day.
Spoke to USPS office, they say eBay tracking is not a USPS tracking number. They do not recognize eBay tracking, also false delivery from eBay saying it has arrived and my mailman hasn’t even delivered yet. eBay BS headaches!
You should ask him what they are doing to prevent counterfeit cards/ “reprints” and how they handle their return policy on them. I’m going through a disaster as we speak about two Lebron topps rookies where eBay is making me wait a week while the seller keeps offering “partial discounts” to prevent me from requesting a return.
This will make eBay like Amazon; there will be ability to buy from different sellers at BIN prices, and then there will be a tab or whatever with a list of all the running auctions. It will take a lot of the seller tips and tricks out of things. Make it more of a price war between sellers. Good for customers, not so great for sellers.
I can't stand the changes ebay has been making when it comes to searching for cards also listing them for sale. Does anyone know where the "sport selection" moved to that you could search all the major sports if you type a general search like 1997 PSA 10 that would allow you to easily search between the major sports in the left sidebar?
The new changes when it comes to inputting the details when creating a listing is full of bugs and won't let you input some of the listing details until you list the item and then go back in to "revise" the listing, then it takes the info with no problem.
OK Geoff your blinking has to be morse code for something....haha
I can't imagine this scan tool is ever going to work as good as they hope. EBay has a bunch of great ideas, but they see very few things through before hopping to the next trend.
Nice interview, good demo.
I know you got this channel running great but I think u would also be a nice host for a show on tv and it could be u searching the world for sports card like a Mike Rowe 2.0 like dirty jobs but u going around looking at sports cards or finding rare cards ....I would watch it ...Sunday 8pm ....
I don’t like the whole standard envelope thing. I ship Flat Rate Priority with internal bubble wrap. Sales over $500 get small flat rate box plus I always give some type of bonus cards with every sale as a kind of shipment fee top up as I know some buyers see a higher shipping cost as a negative but Priority shipping balances out
So I was having a problem with cards getting munched at the post office so I talked to the lady one day and she said add a extra 15 cent stamp and it won’t go in the sorter maybe get something like that for eBay?
I hope this helps..I print out my shipping at .51 & add .24 at the PO with stamps. The card goes non machinable. If you print a label with .91 you can have them mark it non machinable. Look into that. Or print a label at .71 & add a .04 cent stamp to it. It’s easy seriously check it out
Why does everybody complain about gas going up 5 cents, but nobody complains that eBay final value fees went from 5% to 13%?
Don't think it works yet. I still have to add the info or just type the player name and it pops up all the info that way.
the standard envelope is tracked at the sorting centers. its not scanned by hand. its scanned as it goes through the sorter. and the only thing that matters about ebay standard envelope is if ebay will reimburse/cover a seller if a buyer claims they didnt get it.
He said every raw card is basically used ?, i thought every single card, even graded or authenticated cards were used, new being with other cards in a manufactuer sealed box or case either as a set or a pack/box/case, because unless u open the box/case what have u, then u dont know what u have nor does anyone else, hence break the seal now the cards are considered used & all the other following processes, thats was my interpitation
The key to this encompassing nba and nfl will be the database. Currently there isn’t a place with a picture of every card from every set. However, for Pokémon and magic, that already exists. However, eBay does have the clout to work with panini to get that database. If anyone can do it it’s them. Great stuff
Is this being rolled out world wide ? does not seem to be applied in ebay UK
What do you do if the the buyer pays for the $4 shipping. Is it good business on my end ? To send it stranded envelope?
No how could that be good business? Standard envelope shipping is .51 to .91 to mail a card. If someone pays 4 bucks I’m pretty certain they want it 1st class. I’m my listings I offer to pay 3.25 if they want a bubble mailer. If not you get an envelope
Awesome hope this works better to help sellers.
Wow the details are important..nice tech
Awesome thanks for sharing this awesome info
Wow! Eye opening for sure!!
Does it look bad if the seller uses ESE? Thoughts?
Hey Geoff, did you take a Dardis Communication course at some point? You have great video presentation skills.
Another great informative video
out of 2 million ese units shipped, how many of those had some issue. out of those issues how many sellers where impacted in some type of way? I bet the % are surprising
Am I able to use that on eBay right now
Wrong not for me lost cards have been high with the standard envelope vs . Stamps .. last year I lost one with stamps last 3 months I’ve lost 6 and had 4 more delayed shipments over a month .. Even with covid I had no problems with stamps and whenever I use them now it’s fine .. It needs to improve in training with USPS and duplicate shipping charges some are a glitch and some are just user error with no resolution or void option ..
Is the standard envelope shipping option available for Canada or is it only America please let me know someone
No standard envelope shipping to Canada. It’s 11.00. I just shipped an Austin Martin card to a guy in Nova Scotia. I did send a card PWE for 1.20 to Canada last week though
I would love to see an international shipping rate from eBay that is not the global shipping program.
It’s 11.00 to Canada. I haven’t shipped to any other country. I usually just sell in the US but I had hockey cards for sale
Outside of my over caffeinated hand shaking all over the place lol
Your .51 stamp goes through mail sorters. Its a baseball card shredder. A 50 year old card ends its life. Even using a card saver. Buy .70 non machinable stamped pwe with a top loader. Only way to safely ship an inexpensive card.
You should get into hockey card collecting they have some very valuable players cards that go up fast in price
I guess the card feature for MTG is fine for phone posters. I can list cards faster on a computer just selling similar.
EBAY has to change the return window for Cards. 30 days is ok when buying an electronic or appliance, furniture, etc.
But the card market is far too volatile for a 30 day money back guarantee. Look at the price of any card the week it releases. Then look at the same card's price 21-30 days after release. Or after an injury. Right now you sell a card and have to pray the price doesnt drop too much or that player doesnt get injured for 30 days. 4 weeks is a quarter of an NFL Season where injuries happen every game and on any play. eBay needs to change the return policy for sports cards to 3-5 days MAX! Thats long enough to inspect a cards condition. Nobody knows where prices will be 2-3-4 weeks in the future or if a player will get injured later. And sellers shouldnt have to fear forced returns for 30 days in a market so volatile where all a buyer has to do is bend your card and say it arrived damaged with no proof. They get all their money back to buy the card cheaper. You get a card back thats lost 60% of its value BEFORE it was bent in half and ruined to the point of having $0 value TOTAL LOSS.
PLEASE EBAY CHANGE THE RETURN WINDOW FOR CARDS! Its not the same as buying a phone or toaster....
Kind of ironic don't you think how this channel touts "hot and cold" cards weekly and then ebay gives people 4 weeks to return something that went "cold". . . got to laugh/cry at how that contradicts each other!
Brilliant! Great to have Ebay behind card collectors!
eBay is in no way " behind" sports card investors
you keep thinking that. Youll find out the truth the hard way if you ever sell anything a few times on ebay
Lol they aren’t behind you. They rape the sellers & side with the buyers 99 out of 100 times
All this cool stuff added... Lets get to things us sellers want... Like when are we not going to have to pay 15% to ebay for every sale? Almost makes it worthless to sell on there
I don't care what he says, but tracking does matter. Tracking is so important. I've stopped using ebays label on cards over $5 because half my buyers would claim they never got their card just because the
tracking would never get updated. It's a joke. Then eBay itself will favor the buyer because there's no proof it got delivered.
Can you make a video about how to start and like what to do to get big like you pleas
I’m old school and will still do everything manually.
