How to Find Sports Card Values - Baseball, Football, Basketball & Hockey
No Single Accurate Value:
Card values constantly fluctuate, depending largely on market trends, player popularity, and condition. A card worth $200 in the past might not retain that value today.
Use eBay for Pricing:
eBay is highlighted as the most reliable platform to check card values due to its widespread use in the sports card market. Checking the 'Sold Listings' on eBay provides insight into what people are actually paying for a card.
Implementing Advanced Search:
Use the advanced search features on eBay to find the most accurate prices. Key details to input include the player's name, card manufacturer, and card year. Ensure to check the 'sold listings' to observe actual sale prices rather than listed prices.
Graded vs. Ungraded Cards:
Graded cards, which have been assessed and rated by a professional grading company, often have different values than ungraded ones. Be cautious not to compare the values of graded cards with raw, ungraded cards.
Valuing in Lots:
If you possess multiple similar cards with lower individual values, consider selling them as lots (in bulk) to potentially make them more attractive to buyers, often because it can save them on shipping.

Gosh, this brings me back to being a kid and looking up my card values in Beckett magazine in the mid 90âs. The game has changed!
Oh man no kidding. I always asked my parents to keep buying me the books each year as the price went up or down. I remember being super disappointed by the price of a couple of Jose Canseco cards I had. lol
Same
Its like Gold & Silver literally i just got back into in January but I was a Huge Collector during the 90's
lol yea man i would get it every month and highlight all of my cards.... the good ol' days
I still got a bunch of beckett mags from that time lmao đ
I just bought about 15,000 baseball and basket ball cards from the years 1970-1990 from a dude for $40 that he had in his basement. Wish me luck!
Wow. Goes to show that guy does not care about money. Doing the math not even one of those cards were worth 1 cent he sold you for.
Basically he should of charged you at least $15,000 since each card would at least be valued for $1.
I buy half off your hands for 20 lol
My dad passed last year. Just got all his 1970-99 cards.. Iâd say a million.. thousands and thousands at least. This is gonna be a process
You will easily get $40 value out of that.
as a new collector i really appreciate you for posted this video. i dont plan on selling at this point, only buying, so these techniques are really gonna help me make sure that i dont overpay. thank you sir.
This was very useful. Just found thousands of baseball, football and basketball cards. Iâm going to apply this method. Thanks!!
Great to hear!
Really great tip. Thank you. đđ Been wanting to go back through the thousands of cards from when i was a kid. Hopefully soon.
Thanks bro hard to find people with common sense and articulate and straight the point like you

Blessings to you brother for sharing this information. Been looking at other collectors and investors and they never shared this information. Thanks for sharing
Saved video and I know it will help me evaluate my card collection. Thank you, Matt.
Yes, sir! Thanks for the feedback đ
This is solid info...hell i didn't even know you could modify searches that way and I've been f'in with Ebay since 99...thanks bro.. good shit.

Hey brother I appreciate the feedback. Iâm glad you appreciate the small details in put into the videos. They take a little more time to make but go a long way I think đ
Thanks appreciate you taking the time to get us this info my man! Appreciate u
Thanks for the feedback, man! I'm glad you appreciate the video. đ
Matt, appreciate your content! Just got back into the hobby and this stuff is very helpful.
i have thousands of old cards and this helped me see a fair price range for all of them thank you!!!!
Thank you so much for the help and I am getting back to this hobby
Thanks! I appreciate all the information you provide.
Thanks for the feedback, Robert!
IÂŽm learning so much with your videos. Thanks very much.
Thanks! Great video. Did not know the trick to eliminate key words!!
Awesome! I recently was handed down 300 signed cards by Jacoby Brissett. Most are 1/1 with some being the black print plates. A bunch of signed prizms as well.
Feb 11th 2020, came across your channel, nide channel very organized in the info. I am not a value chaser, but I am a history collector and I am just starting to get my cards psa graded.
Awesome man! Thanks for the feedback. Good luck the submission. Let me know how it goes. đ
Love all the videos keep up the great work!!! Maybe in a future video show how you store and organize all your stuff...seems like I change my mind on a monthly basis on how to keep mine organized cause my amount changes weekly lol
Thanks for the feedback! I have the same issues you have. My stuff is always getting moved around and it's a pain to store lol, especially if you're limited to space like I am. I'm currently trying to figure out the best way to organize it better. I'll post once I figure that puzzle out đ
I collect mainly hockey hall of famers . My objective is to collect at least one rc and one memorablia card of each enshrined player. I consider my collection pretty nice so far. Your video was very helpfull if ever i decide to sell.
I appreciate you sharing this with us. This has helped me soo much!!
Glad it was helpful!
Seller prices change often but as for buying cards for long term collections it's important to look back to 2007 - 2012 prices.
Hey it's Joe Hamilton I have a new phone and a different CZcams account haha.. Nicely done like always.. but this 1 time Im actually ahead ofya...but you pointed a couple tips that will be very useful. I just can't express how much I appreciate you sharing your personal knowledge that anyone on Earth who is starting to collect can listen and learn on the basics and very important steps to take to move forward and accomplishing the goals that at 1 point myself thought was impossible and almost gave up! I have used your information to do and understand things I been wanting to know and do. Now that I applied your tips into my card collection it has not only more organized and time efficient but also it's fun not frustrating. I just want to thank you my brother I really appreciate your time and help. I'm just about done with my first 100 baseball and basketball PSA cantitdatesđ„ I invested in a Head lamp with LED and black light to magnify and make the appropriate judgement before adding to my PSA pile. As I'm doing this I keep a manifest for each and everyone of my cards that I think I determine PSA cantitdates even though I won't be adding them to the list that I personally am gunna send out to PSA. I sleeve # then store and now if someone is looking for a specific card or player. I can find it easily without no 3 hour search. PSA should give you a free lifetime membership seriously! I'm actually going to print a letter of acknowledgement that if not for you sharing your knowledge + advertising and promoting their company in high regards.. me and 2 other friends wouldn't be customers of their services. I'm going to inbox you the link to my eBay account and if the cards aren'tgraded l definitely will attach my opinion to the Lott if I believe it's worthy of grading. Appreciate everything đđ đ đ đ đ
Extremely valuable information and video thank you so much
Wow! Double episode. It was a good day. Great work mate.
Thanks, Mate!
Game changer thank you so much for this helpful video.!!!
I learned a lot watching this video. However, what if you have a card that hasn't been sold and is not on ebay?
Try to take it to a shop
This is my issue. I have several 1/1 cards and printing plates. I have no real idea of their value. Closest I can get is comparing to an out of 10. Printing plates I have zero clue though.
Yeah, I'm having issues with that too. I have a 3/3 Earl Campbell that to the best of my knowledge hasn't been sold on Ebay. No idea what it's worth so I"ll probably end up holding it forever haha.
@@nathansmith8723 If you can't find the value of the card on eBay because it is rare, such as a 1/1, 3/3, etc this is a good problem to have. Basically, you set the price you want to get for it. Set the price high, see what action or traffic the card is creating (Views, watchers, offers etc.) List it for a decent amount of time 1-6 months if you're not in a hurry to sell. Or check how much the value of the same card that is serial#d /10 or /25, then price yours much more than those cards.
@@galactic_ape1929 1/1 you make the price.

Just getting into the hobby
Great video! Keep them coming!
Yep I needed this
1 of the TOP most helpful videos for sports cards!! Hands down đ
Great video, thanks for sharing!
Hey. Just wanted to thank you for the amazing videos that you make and for helping me learn more about the hobby. I am starting to get into the hobby as a 15 year old with not much knowledge about it. I am collecting mainly basketball cards and I am hoping I will stick to collecting for awhile as I really enjoy it.
Wow, thanks for the feedback Eli! I'm glad I can help you on your journey into the hobby! There is a ton of information to learn and can seem daunting but after some practice and research it all becomes more clear. Basketball cards are some of my favorite cards to collect both newer and older players!
@@GRADEDCARDINVESTOR Thanks for the reply! I actually started to collect basketball cards as a way to keep in touch with the sport, because I got injured and wasnt able to play any basketball or even watch the games. But ya, It is pretty daunting at first but the more and more I learn about collecting it really seems to lighten up per se. đ I've really tried to focus my collecting to the 2000's and the early 2010's, as it is pretty affordable and has great sets. The three main players I want to have a pc in is Allen Iverson, Kemba Walker, and Cj Mccollum. All three are amazing scorers and just super fun to watch đ.
Eli Hoeppner .. Good to see the youth take up the hobby! Good Luck đ buddy & Happy collecting đ»đ
Now that itâs 2 years later, howâs your collection going?
@@CalebCutler Hey there! I was a bit confused when I saw I had a reply, as I don't comment much, in fact, I totally forgot I made this comment. Time flies! Anyways, thanks for asking. My collection has grown quite a bit since then, as I was able to obtain most of it before covid and the surge of new collectors, but after that surge, I grinded to a halt in terms of collecting. It's just too darn expensive nowadays. Plus I'm at that age now where I've got to conserve the little money I have for college. Thanks again for bringing me back here, and bringing back some memories.
I like that your to the point!
Long Story,Short. Thank you đ
Really helpful! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
you should do the most valuable card by the sets of each year and make
what happens if you can't find the specific card using the sold items listings filter? can it still be useful to search it up on ebay without pressing any more filters? I am new to this and I have no idea what I'm doing but so far your video is helping me. đ đđ
Isn't there a website that shows a chart over time of the value of a card? Like you'd see for Apple Stock. Thx for your content!!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you very much. đŹ
thanks for the information
Thanks for this video so helpful brother and Iâm really starting to lean into the investment part of the hobby and possibly starting to sell Iâve got a huge cardshop I built In the basement with my kids have around 400 thousand cards and need to start unloading quantities and invest that in quality thanks Matt all your info helps so much
Dale Kitto .. Do u have an eBay account ?
Cap
Do you think this also best place to find approx value of nascar trading cards?
Thanks for you video man
PSA now offers a drop down on their site that says AUCTION PRICES. I type in the card and it shows the most recent sale value of that card, and an average of its worth based on ebay purchases.
Informative thanks bro
Great info! Thanks
What about new release cards? I canât find my auto anywhere
Is PSA ratified better then not having card rated? Because how do you know if the card is real or a fake? Thanks for the information!
I know a few sellers that use ebay to find card values but I still use the beckett website. Of course there is a price for a subscription on the site but once in, you'll find it's so much easier than ebay searches.
Just because Beckett says a card is valued doesnât mean people are paying that price. eBay is the only way to get accurate prices and see what people are actually paying for the card.
a few of my golden ones, Nolan ryan king of kings....jose uribe fleer....bo jackson King of kings... basically the whole king of kings set...a few others that's on ice till the market growsđ
Great video. Thanks.
Hey Matt, what are your thoughts on these hi tech cards?
Baseball cards have baseballcardpedia for checklists. I couldn't find one for football or basketball that was similar. Any ideas?
I look at the Beckett price guide. I look at low and high value and go in between. I then go to eBay sold and look for 5 sold prices then average them out. Finally I take the Beckett value plus the eBay value I calculated, and divide it by 2. That is how I value my cards. Not sure if I should take shipping costs into account?
Hey man, i really hope you see this. Do you have any thoughts on investing in UFC cards. the sport is only going to continue to grow and the fighters that are stars now are going to be the most valuable legends in 20-30 years, since these cards really just started getting made. There are no 1990 UFC cards lol. So i figure by 2040, the 2015-2020 UFC cards will be super valuable because they will be the oldest cards. Your thoughts?
Just starting. Do I want original upgraded? I'll study your series. I purchased a couple of lots of unopened cards without learning the hobby.
I have a rookie Mario lemieux opechee hockey card that's in perfect condition but im a little scared to send away for grading....sure would love to know the rating of that card...đ
Is this for the net or can this work through the eBay app ?
Man, I wish you could do this with my collection for me..lol it was so much easier with Beckett and Wizard back then
Gotta do your homework!
Hey bro i jus found an old authenticated jeter rookie card. Its in a frame and i dont know how to find the true value because of all the reprints. What can i do?
I know you said you won't help find the values for anybody , but can you imagine if you did?
Great Video
Thanks good info đ
Thanks, brother!
I have a Mahomes rookie worth about 400-500 mint. What can i expect the value to be if a tiny micro dent is in the middle of it barely noticeable unless you inspect it closely. how much can a micro ding reduce the value? thanks.
i got this golden zach ertz signed rookie press pass card and cant find the price any help?
Good video! Thanks!
đđŒ Thanks!
I appreciate this video bro.
What do you use to keep track of the prices of all your cards as i have roughly 30,000
Fantastic video!
Thanks!
What do you think about tennis sports good.
Sweet thanks
Thanks for the info Matt very helpful. I was just wondering, wouldn't it be easier to get a Beckett and search directly for the price or another reputable price guide (i.e. PSA website)?
I would have though that those price guides would be more accurate and reliable than what people would sell for on eBay (but obv I don't have as much experience). Also, what are your thoughts on the free price guides on the internet - are any reliable?
thx again for the vid and tips!
The prices are fluctuating every week almost. Itâs tough to find a set price for a card due to supply and demand, auction prices realized, hype, etc. This applies to vintage and modern cards. If you want to know what people are willing to pay for a card you have to look at what recent cards have sold for. Sometimes the recent sales are too low and sometimes too high. In short, the market doesnât go by price guides anymore Bc the market is so unpredictable.
@@GRADEDCARDINVESTOR True, that makes sense thanks. I was just looking for an easier way to look up a large quantity of cards that are already organized by set but I guess price guides wouldn't be the best option. Maybe I can use these guides just as an indication of what cards in sets are actually worth looking up in eBay etc. (as opposed to each individual one). Unless there is a more efficient method out there. Cheers and thanks again
pulled a wander franko rookie card from select its a premier level silver that is blue on top and purple/pink on bottom with like smoke clouds in the color.. Anyone have ideas on what it is. It's not a regular blue premier it's like 3 colors and not numbered. Is it a rare or case hit
Is selling a PSA 8 better than selling it raw? For example, would you rather sell a holy grail 1/1 card as raw or sell it as a PSA 8?
I donât have that advanced button. Iâm using my phone, do I have to do it on a PC?
is there a website to insert the information into and it will tell you the estimated cost?
Oh well .u gonna have that folks so im loving it just part of collecting cards.
i feel at times its best to run auctions and take a risk on a 5 to 7 day because you will get something most like if its a 99 cent start. I am usually chasing another card with the money and if I wait to long with buy it now a lot of times that card gets more expensive by the week sometimes by the day,
Yep, depending on the card, sometimes it is worth it to run an auction. If no one is searching for your card and one guy happens to come across it and bids, then he will more than likely win it at whatever starting price you put. It's all a gamble.
Great video buddy thanks for sharing

Eh, not really. I would buy the card not the box.

Hey, Matt. Well, I have to say, by watching your videos I learn something new in every one. All the times I looked through ebay I could have shortened my searches through this method. But, I miss the days of the Beckett Price Guide. It was so simple and you get the money for your cards, exactly what they're worth. I'm telling you, ebay has got the hobby ruined, in my opinion. But, who am I to say. I'm just one person. It's bad enough you pay a lot of money in some cases for boxes and the dollars aren't there from the start and the box isn't opened yet! I'm thinking I need to stop buying boxes and do what a lot of others are doing and just buy the cards I want. That's probably the safest bet. Anyway, that's my two cents worth on it. Have a good one., Matt.
lol, we have to agree to disagree on the Beckett days. I do not miss them. I think using eBay is so much more accurate (and free). Plus, having all the old Becketts stored up in my closet was a dang nuisance. But, we all collect differently and do everything our own way. Luckily in this hobby, there is no right or wrong way to collect. Which is honestly what makes it so fun. Seeing how other guys do everything is always entertaining to me. Do they even print Becketts anymore? đ Thanks for the feedback and comment Rod! Glad you made it out of that snowstorm alive!
Rod White .. Buy into breaks itâs fun & less expensive ... Good Luck đ
@@djquiksilva I thought about doing that. That's a good thought. Thanks for the feedback.
@@GRADEDCARDINVESTOR Alive but not well. We've had a dozen lots of snow since then. It seems I'm shovelling everyday. I'm so sore. I have a job to lift a fork to my mouth.
