    I just checked the timing belt today on my Z16XER Astra and there are small cracks on it. Means in it's 12 years, it's never been replaced. Poor show considering it's full service record (which I now believe was false). Thanks for the video, I've done a few timing belts and this looks far more straightforward than some of the other ones I've done, thanks for the clear instructions!

Was fun doing myslef with my brother assisting on the cams. Took us bout 4 trys. Thanks for your video. The only thing i would do differently, would be to get the cam locking tool. They wanna role, tool would have made it easyer. Was going to rent it but shop i talked to said they didnt have it after previously saying they did. Anyway good for another 100000 miles

    Hi, great video.
    The engine management light has come on and the code is for the camshaft position sensor. Which I have replaced. It’s still on. The current is fine, checked with a multi meter.
    So next is the timing belt. Hence watch your video.
    In the video the cam sprockets are in the correct place before you mark them up with the pen. I don’t think mine are hence the eml and the car not running very well. How do I know what the correct position is when replacing the cam belt?

    Hi all. Been reading up on this job, love the video. I have a couple questions. 1st, i understand the torq setting of so many foot pounds, or newton, but what do you mean by 120 degress added to that? Second why does saturn, holden vauxhall want me to lock the fly wheel. I only ask cause the stud to secure that tool inti my fly wheel is stripped and will not remove. I guess i have a second part of that question, can i just put my car i. Gear with the wheels chaulked and also have locked the fly wheel? Thanks

    • @diydaly
      @diydaly  Před rokem +1

      You’ll need an angle gauge to set the angle after , if just torquing it the the correct nm setting 1st then , using and a angle gauge after to set an angle torque .. your best off ordering one of these.. ebay.us/E48k7K You could just lock it like you said or use a car in the flywheel teeth for the flywheel

    This is a good video well made and explained. However, I tried this and would suggest anybody else trying this has a helper. My cams just sprung out of place and I now cannot get the marks aligned and in place to even try and put the new belt on. I must admit I did try to align to the marks on the camshafts where I can see DIY Daly has the marks on the opposite sides of the cams. I don't quite understand that I thought they had to align0- perhaps this is what I have done wrong. I now have two cams I can't align :-(. Beware of those star shaped recesses on the cam ends thy are easy to damage as stated in the video they are very shallow. I suspect I will be phoning around for a mobile mechanic this week.

    Best regards. Would you like to answer a few questions about this particular engine? I actually want to buy an Astra H 1.6 16v 85/116, I wonder if this engine has a high pressure gasoline pump like a VW fsi engine, does it have a floating flywheel? I'm also wondering if the camshaft variators break down and is an expensive replacement, as are the vanos sensors? I am generally interested in whether this engine is a good and reliable choice? Thank you.

    Hi , all , I managed to get the crank pulley off but had a issue with the idler, as the bolt damaged . But the belt git on and timing spot on so left old pulley on until until got a better tool. Ran the car and its great . But then the high pitch squeeling came back so I belive its the idler . Bought tool and started to do it all again . Lined up timing but when the lock took is in the left crank dose not line up with the marks but the right crank dose. So now iam confused is the timing out now as other marks are right. And can I turn the top left crank to right marks or will this knock it all out .

    • @diydaly
      @diydaly  Před 2 lety +2

      I take it you mean the cams not the crank!? (The 2 top pulleys) if it’s not lining up your timing must be out.. align it all (as close as you can , as it’s obviously out) pin up what you can then remove the belt , realign the cam pulley that’s out to the correct mark then refit the belt and tension as ness

I lost my job 2 years ago and i know a few things about cars. This video is amazing with all the details. I followed it all , and got to taking the crank pully off. But it was so hard. The bottom pully ended up moving as i tried to undo bolt. And no way i could get it off. I was guttered as i needed the car as kids off school and dont really trust it now as high millage and the noise. I have watched other videos about how to get past this as i was so close to doing it. But now i feel i that i have put it all back together now as family rely on it , i have it in my head that because the pully moved as i tried to get it off i may off knocked it all out of postition. It starts ok and drives really quiet , just wanted a peace of mind that it is ok and any ideas to get the pully off would help, as iam lost and dont have the money for these big garrages to price me ove the top many thanks
