A narrated walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan. I talk about its history, construction, and current state of the bridge.
Corrections:
At 1:45 I mention John Roebling was the architect of the Brooklyn Bridge. He was actually the chief civil engineer.
At 2:28 I mention Boss Tweed was the mayor of New York City, but he was the corrupt political leader of Tammany Hall.
At 4:30 I mention Emily Roebling was John Roebling's wife. She was actually Washington Roebling's wife (I was correct the first time).
From Wikipedia:
"The Brooklyn Bridge is a hybrid cable-stayed/suspension bridge in New York City and is one of the oldest roadway bridges in the United States. Started in 1869 and completed fourteen years later in 1883, it connects the boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn, spanning the East River. It has a main span of 1,595.5 feet (486.3 m) and was the first steel-wire suspension bridge constructed. It was originally called the New York and Brooklyn Bridge and the East River Bridge, but it was later dubbed the Brooklyn Bridge, a name coming from an earlier January 25, 1867, letter to the editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle and formally so named by the city government in 1915. Since opening, it has become an icon of New York City and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 1972."

When i was in elementary school in the 1950's in Queens, we were taught to remember the name of the 3 bridges after the auto"BMW.#
I just moved to Atlanta from Manhattan a few weeks ago and this video is making me realize how much I’m gonna miss NY. There’s no water out here. I miss the Hudson River, East River and all of the beaches. This place is just land everywhere and you have to drive a few hours to get to bodies of water. They have lakes but it’s just name the same feel. Really sucks.
And the heat in the summer is absolutely HELLISH. 🔥👿
@@spaceghost4474 yeah I caught a taste of it a couple weeks ago. I'm not a fan. Hopefully this place grows on me.
@@inmyhumbleopinion_ + In my experience, the ONLY thing that grows is the puddle of sweat that you leave.
I hope that it works out for you. 😊
I’m glad I can bring you back to New York with my videos!
@@spaceghost4474 😳 the agony lol thx
I don't comment much, but I had to go out of my way to express my gratitude for the awesome content you upload. I like walking tour videos, but you really take yours to the next level with these interesting factoids and history about the places you walk through. You the man!
Thank you so much 😊
The walking was great 👍I enjoyed it wery much(Gabriella from Hungary)
@@ActionKid did you know John Roebling built a smaller version of the Brooklyn bridge (not identical but smaller and similar) in Waco Tx. It is still there and was built before the Brooklyn Bridge.
It is nice that complete strangers recognised you- ActionKid! You're a NYC rock star :)
I REALLY enjoy these Brooklyn Bridge walks, second ONLY to the Central Park walks.
The history behind it is so interesting.
It is an AMAZING piece of engineering, considering the fact that it was built entirely during the horse and buggy days.
GREAT WALK!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
It’s amazing!
The Brooklyn Bridge is my favorite bridge in NYC, ActionKid. I've always thought it is a beautiful piece of engineering! Growing up on the Lower East Side, we used to walk and ride our bikes across the bridge frequently. Great video, as usual...
Love the Brooklyn Bridge! There’s something special about it. Thanks
The view from Brooklyn Bridge over Manhattan is absolutely stunning. It forces me to fall in love with this city again ^^... Keep on goin' with your videos. Love 'em :)
This has to be one of Actionkid's best videos .The history ,the views over the Brooklyn Bridge ,the moments meeting other CZcamsrs & fans. This video alone is enough for me to move to New York i enjoyed the tour more than i usually do.Awesome
Thank you 😊
Thanks KID FOR A great video.
Great walk on Brooklyn Bridge! 😊
I always wanted to walk along this bridge and see the scenery around. Thank's for showing these great views! 😊
Hope to see O&A video too 😊
The concierge lady at the millennium broadway hotel at Times Square told us to get the A train and then walk back into Manhattan to get the most of the view. And I’m glad we did it. This was April 2018, it was a freezing cold day and we had an absolute blast doing it.
Nice video, kid. Thanks for bringing back the memories. 🙌🖖
Another cool 😎 NYC adventure video from the best youtuber ever of all times
I always love watching your vídeos. But, what I really love that NO OTHER CZcamsRS DO, is you tell your viewers what TIME it is and what's the TEMPERATURE. Now, some people might think" Hey What's The Big Deal"? Well, the Big Deal is that IN AWAY it puts the viewers there with you. So, as Always Thank You Brother.
Thanks 😊 I agree, announcing the time and temperature puts everything in perspective.
Very cool AK!!👍👍 Thanks for the walk.Love the Brooklyn Bridge!😊😊
Can't get enough of walking the Bridge, either at night or in the day, thanks, AK.
Great tour of the Bridge, and Educational as well, Thanks "Action Kid"!
Another great video, I really enjoyed this one. Thanks for sharing.
thanks bro...was waiting for this....long time
What a great tour of the bridge! I love that it's overcast. People seem to behave differently when there is pending rain or snow. Thank you, AK!
hi, thanks for this video, I thoroughly enjoyed it btw I so appreciate your knowledge and commentating on NYC landmarks.
Thanks for the awesome walk!
Anyone else feels like in all the videos, pedestrians might walk into the camera and knock it over? Just me? LMAO
Keep up the awesome work AK, Love the vids.
Again, thanks for another of your many high quality on-site history lessons.
Very informative!!!!...will definitely do the Brooklyn Bridge. Real cool vid..thanks so much for your hard work AK. Stay Safe.

I have never been to NYC but there was a news story about the Brooklyn Bridge and I looked and here was your video. Thank you for taking the time to walk across and give all the excellent information. One day I hope to visit. Take care!
Thanks for the walk
Great commentary AK!
SO HAPPY you did this one!!!!
My favourite NYC route, Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan! Super fabulous with your narration. What are the sugar cubes for again? What is the meaning of the pavement sign "yield'?
The sugar cubes are to prevent a vehicular attack on the bridge path. The yield symbol means to give priority to others on the roadway.
@@ActionKid Thanks for the info. You're the best! :)
Thanks directly to you and your awesome content, I am visiting New York in 2021 for my holidays from the United Kingdom

Wanna walk just in one direction: Take the A train (Brooklynbound) get of at Highstreet; walk to the bridge and trough the archway; make a right and use the stairs.

That was so interesting Thanks
What makes this video great is the weather! Bright, with storm clouds. Shot on a sunny day would give the video a completely different effect. Exciting bridge walk.Thx!

Wonderful wonderful . I think your best . I would walk very very early am or just at dusk when all the lights start to come on . There are beautiful spots for pictures !!!
This is WHY your narration videos are the best !!!!!
Breathtaking

A great walk on a very cloudy day 🌫 👍👍👍
Hello!...Thank you so much for this narrated walk across the BB...I'm from Liverpool in the UK and have wanted to visit NYC for most of my life!! I really enjoyed this and I'd definitely love to do this walk if ever I visited...must admit, it's so narrow for pedestrians and cyclists...I bet there's been tons of accidents! Thanks again x
You’re welcome! You should come visit sometime 😊
HI
tnx for this one
it was amazing
please do 57th and 58th street again if it's possible
Love your NY Stuff the most Kid.
Nice to see a NY with clouds and now 20 degrees.
Please walk right through Winter too with new content.
A huge fan from Australia.
I have walked The ManhattanBridge a few times. It’s not as beautiful as the journey you took on this video. If I ever get to the city again, I will definitely take this walk. Have enjoyed all of your videos discovering places I never knew existed in the city. Keep up the great work My Friend !
Nice video's Thanks
Well, I have watched this video 3 times now, and there is just something about the lighting I love. You have captured something I cannot put my finger on. If done on a nice sunny day, it could be a complete disaster. As far as I am concerned, it belongs in your top ten list. Yes, it's that good!
Thank you very much 😃 I’m impressed you watched it 3 times!
Thanks to Your movies I can consider my self as familiar with this beautiful city
and I haven't been there yet
Regards
Brooklyn Bridge ❤ !!!! ... very nice video💝💝👍👏
Shared this to a new york group I'm in on Facebook so hopefully it'll get you a few more subscribers. Needless to say I love watching your videos
Thank you 😊
I've slacked off back again. Another virtual tour? Thanks AK.
I enjoy your walking videos, could you at sometime recommend the best places to eat and good Bakeries in NYC.
Too many places to list! I frequently use Yelp to find places to eat.
That was a great walk, a nice brisk day too!
From Italy,
Every time i come to NY, i come to him and i never get tired! For me, the most beautiful bridge in the world! Thanks Actionkid!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽
I just walked across this bridge 4 days ago. Walking around Dumbo was a great experience.
Thanks for posting this-I've often wondered what it would be like to cross it on foot. Nervewracking!
That was really great....never been...probably never will....but, now I know what it's like....thanks alot ActionKid
everytime I see the Brooklyn Bridge, I can't help but think of the movie "Saturday Night Fever" and the scene where John Travolta is giving a history lesson about the bridge to his girlfriend
Beautiful Brooklyn
Me and my friends walked the Brooklyn bridge in 1999. It wasn’t as cluttered back then with tons of people. I didn’t see anyone selling stuff on the bridge back then, maybe off of it near by. Loved the walk but it has changed. 🚗🚌🚎🚓🚕🚙🏎🚲🛴🛳🛥🏗🏢🏦🏬📸🌉🌃🌇🚀🗽🧳👜🕶👩👧👧💃🏻🚲
You are really on track Action. Just beautiful.
Sehr schöner Blick dort auf der Brücke
Buon giorno Action Kid. That yelling thing towards the beginning of your video ? I remember back in the 70's when i would go back to the Bronx and spend some of my childhood summers ? There would be some yelling outta the old Brownstone buildings . So i think like you said ? That type of thing is somewhat common place in N.Y.C. Thanks for sharing more of your great adventures around the city. Stay safe and have fun. Ciao.
I did this myself in my vacation this month! I was in Manhattan so I went both ways back to Manhattan
One of my Fav walks! Thanks Action Kid! They should ban people from selling stuff on the bridge. The space is already so congested.
nice --- thanks - enjoy a lot
Thank you very much for this great video! 👏🇺🇸🗽 Greetings from germany... ✌🙋
Very nice video! It’s my wish to go back to New York and walk the Brooklyn bridge with my wife.
This was a very enjoyable walk even with the rude people who don't consider others before just stopping and blocking the flow of traffic.
An overcast, cool day is the best walking day even though the rain and the snow are wonderful but you are right, it lends a great atmosphere.
NYU Engineering merged with Brooklyn Polytechnic in 1973. Some classes were held at Washington Square campus and some at Jay street in Brooklyn. I used to walk from NYU's dorm at One Fifth Avenue building through Brooklyn bridge to the classes on Brooklyn side. It was a long walk but at that time I was young and energetic just like ActionKid.
So cool!
well done.
