A walk along Lexington Avenue from 60th Street to 21st Street. This was the first time I used my GoPro HERO8 Black. HyperSmooth 2.0 was enabled and I used the GoPro Shorty accessory. I'm not too happy about the video quality with the electronic stabilization. This is similar to the GoPro HERO7 Black where the stabilization stops working well in low light. It looks like a gimbal is still necessary to smooth out my footage.

Along its 5.5-mile (8.9-kilometer), 110-block route, Lexington Avenue runs through Harlem, Carnegie Hill, the Upper East Side, Midtown, and Murray Hill to a point of origin that is centered on Gramercy Park. South of Gramercy Park, the axis continues as Irving Place from 20th Street to East 14th Street.
Lexington Avenue was not one of the streets included in the Commissioners' Plan of 1811 street grid, so the addresses for cross streets do not start at an even hundred number, as they do with avenues that were originally part of the plan."

I don't know but for me this Camera makes me feel like that I am there walking.. Its much better, like more being there.. Does that make sense? Excellent clarity even on a cloudy day.. Also more background sound.. Hearing things that you don't normally hear, which is nice..

.Nice walk down Lexington Ave. I'll point out a few things; Central Synagogue is the oldest synagogue in continuous use in NYC. Opposite Double Tree Hotel is the great , art deco styled RCA/GE building designed in setback, much like the Chrysler, Empire State and 30 Rock Plz buildings . Wm Van Allen, architect of the Chrysler Building was in competition with H. Craig Severence, architect of 40 Wall Street , to see who would build the taller building. As explained, the spire of the Chrysler Building was lifted up one evening and topped off the other building giving Wm Van Allen the win. Keep up the great work Actionkid.

I have a long layover in New York coming back from Madrid so I will have roughly 6 to 7 hrs to spend in the city. The Grand Concourse was the Champs Elysee of NYC back in the heyday...Yes, there's a famous, art deco styled mermaid, fish motif building along it's way...you can see it on youtube...

@8:59. I have played for services at Central Synagogue, back in the early 1990s. Around that same time, there was a huge fire that practically destroyed the building. Many millions of $ were spent to bring it back. The whole roof was gone, for starters.

Have you covered the Hudson Greenway yet? A walk or ride down that would be entertaining. It's one of my favorite things about Manhattan. I sit there on a bench across from the Jane Hotel and look out across the Hudson River every morning and night when I'm back there.

Hi AK, aka: 007. I stayed at the Benjamin years ago. Expensive. They offered a choice of nine different pillows.
I had to look up info on the Citicorp building. It is no longer owned by Citicorp and the present owners have removed all references to Citicorp on it. It has a 50 ton electronically controlled ballast on the top that shifts the building into the wind when necessary. Lex. Is good to walk on: not so many tourists except by Bloomingdales. Thanks for your work.

How much editing did you need to get these really realistic colors? Is it the color profile? This is much better than most gopro footage I see out there with garish colors..
i don't know if its the time of day but the FOV is much better,colors look richer,have u had any freezing issues, or shut offs,great vid action as always
I only used it once and it’s a cold month so I don’t expect it to shut off

Indeed, Action, the quality breaks down when the lighting becomes reduced. Even entering the scaffolding area at 07:03 sees a dramatic reduction in sharpness and an increase in shake and "jelloing." Has any firmware updates corrected this? And, in low light would you use your mechanical gimbal with electronic stabilization turned off? The results are a little disappointing, as I was waiting for Black Friday to see the dramatic reduction in price, and I do. Still, the ability to use the camera in good lighting at 4k without a gimbal, is a huge improvement over my Garmin Virb Ultra 30, which has stabilization only to 2.7k. Thank you for the narrative walk.
You’re welcome. I still use a gimbal with the electronic stabilization turned on at all times. There was a firmware update but I’m not sure if it solved the issue.

Awesome video as always - BUT GP8 the mic is bigger than 7s and the humming city sound is unnatural when you don't speak, i would try to tape over 2/3 of the mic openings in the front, also, viz 20:17, without a gimbal the footage is not leveled. So far i like the footage that you shoot with GP7 much better. & i love GoPros cams BTW. Thanks for your vids & i can't wait to be back in N>Y>C......
The audio is from my external microphone, the same source I’ve been using. Don’t know what made the audio act up like it did.

The sound quality is from my external microphone, same audio source I’ve always been using.

Could you do a walk at some point going from the USS Intrepid along 44th st as far as the Millennium Broadway hotel? It was the first good length walk I ever took in NY and it’d be great to see the sights again. Great video. Definitely the stabilization is not the best compared with the gimbal. Even in daylight, I can clearly sense more shaking. Personally, I would keep using the gimbal. Electronic can't replace pure mechanics.

I wasn’t using a gimbal here. I used the GoPro Shorty.
For old-timers, the Lexington Hotel (16:50) maintains the luxury suite occupied by Arthur Godfrey, who saved CBS from bankruptcy by being on the air many hours a week. Godfrey lived at the Lexington Monday through Thursday and flew his plane to his farm in Virginia weekends, where he broadcast on Fridays. He was the biggest thing in radio and TV for several years.

I agree with your thoughts on the GoPro hero 8. I will keep my Hero 7 with G6 gimbal, perhaps even purchase another Hero 7. There appears to be a noticeable jitter in your footage....not your usual Actionkid quality.
